2026 to 2031.
You have to wonder if the upheaval to a city to prepare to host an Olympics is actually worth the 2 weeks it runs for

Not to mention the costs involved

I'm thinking the world's first fully retractable stadium. When there's nothing on it retracts into the ground and a park pops up.
Some context.

There’s a heritage listed primary school that will be dismantled and moved to a new site.

We have to do the rebuild sustainably. Apparently we have to reuse 90% of the materials from knocking down the current stadium.

They’re probably going to have to put the roads on the four sides of the stadium, underground.

They’re also apparently going to redevelop from the stadium all the way to South Bank.

Basically it’s like knocking down a whole inner city suburb and rebuilding it.

They’re also spending another $2.4 billion to build a new stadium on the Roma Street site.

Total current budget is north of $7billion.

There’s going to be a LOT of construction jobs here over the next 7 years.
Lions gonna have any fans left after that?

Big discussions about that.

It’s going to keep a lot of people employed.

It’s going to remodel and rebuild two sides of inner Brisbane.

It’ll allow us upgrade a lot of our infrastructure.

Hopefully it pushes a lot businesses that don’t really need to be in the city, out to regional hubs, permanently.

They athletes village will become “affordable” aged care.

A lot of SEQ regional sports hubs are receiving significant upgrades, as a lot of the events won’t be in Brisbane.

That’s a big thing about the planning. Everything has to be ongoing legacy.

The Gabba will still be used for cricket and afl.

The new Roma street stadium will be used for concerts, expo’s etc. And be an entertainment hub.

Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Ipswich current sporting infrastructure is all going to upgraded.
