Hopper = Diet Kennedy. Taranto is a jet though.
At the risk of sinking the boot into Kennedy again, Hopper is Kennedy on skates, though arguably not as crafty.

We asked for him before we asked for Kennedy.

Even if we are 0-2, we can recover, to be 5-2 by round 7

A win in the first 2 rounds, could setup our season.

Rounds 8-12 is a tough stretch

2nd half of the season looks better

There are no easy games you can pencil in anymore.Injuries/suspension and playing teams at certain times with theirs play a big part.

First possession, ball use and hitting the scoreboard is critical for us.

Exactly where the game will be won. They have the potential to absolutely crush teams if they're allowed to feed the ball to Dusty and Bolton forward of centre out of the stoppages.

I believe our midfield is better but they have a viable game breaking set up due to the scoreboard pressure they theoretically can inflict.

I think, generally speaking, this season will be determined by the number of easy goals a team can kick. We've made massive headway into this area of our game (should it come together) but the potential of teams like Richmond cannot be denied.

It could easily become a game where we dominate the midfield but are made to earn absolutely everything while they lose the midfield battle on the night but get a few cheapies and it's much closer than it should have been

We shall see

I am just amazed at the amount of people who think the game will be determined by a few individual match ups such as Hewett vs Taranto etc....

It ain’t the 70’s or 80’s, Harry & Charlie won’t have the F50 to themselves either !!

The collective vs the collective these days, games are rarely won by a few individual match ups !!

We often struggle to defend small/medium forwards also which is another real concern.

Will be a tough first up assignment that’s for sure.

Agreed. The way I see it spectators, fans and pundits will always want to look at the marquee matchups and decide that's how the game will pan out

It doesn't mean that a Dusty or a Cripps can't have a match winning performance but more often than not you can point to X, Y and Z for helping to position that player into having that performance.

Reminds me of Fyfe when he won his second Brownlow and the speech he gave. He immediately thanked, very specifically, three or four of his teammates who did all of the dirty work to get him into a position to be his best. It's a thankless task publicly (media will never pick up on it) but if you don't have the team performing the job you can't get that level of performance.

For Richmond they're going to rely on Martin and Botlon to create scoreboard pressure. They're the two guys who can break you with both the shot on goal and the important kick that leads to the shot on goal.

How do they get there? Through guys like Taranto, Prestia, Hopper, Cotchin, and others winning enough of the ball to get it to them in their spots. There's half a dozen blokes at least who will play their role well enough to make them dangerous even if overall they "lose" their matchup.

Win or pull close enough to even in the other matchups and that's a tough matchup for any team.

That said, I can see Richmond as being one of the most mentally fragile teams in the comp this year. If things don't fall their way early in the year then things could really fall apart for them. Buy in will be everything and if they're not winning then I question how long a Dusty will keep the wheels on for. Conversely, if they build early confidence they'll emerge as a raging favorite for the premiership. It can easily go both ways

Good points, they will also rely on their bounce off half back with the likes of Rioli, Baker, Vlastuin etc.

Tigers are very well coached, have a tonne of experience and have drafted extremely well. They will be better this year.

Blues by 72 points.

I played in a league called the Eastern Suburban Churches FL. Some of the opposition players were into the go-fast pre-game. Very scary.
As a teenager, I was a boundary umpire in the Southern Football League.

Tells you how scary I was as a footballer... :p

John Ralph in the HUN. I’m not clever enough to remove the paywall: https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/...1/news-story/928572e93315b72c35ffd62b79e01dcc

My take on the article is that Hollands will play, Cowan is a probable, and Cincotta is a possible. But I’m not taking that as a definitive view on what Ralphy says. I’ll be interested in the interpretations of others.
I think someone may have posted earlier, but here it is

I swear the wait for round 1 feels like it takes forever, then all of a sudden it's round 18...
To be honest I've enjoyed the off season.

After how our season ended I needed an emotional break from footy.

Keen as for round 1 now though

Oddly I went the other way. With how unsatisfying last season ended, I've wanted to get back into it straight away.

Certainly appreciate your way of thinking though, it was an absolutely emotional drain last season.
