NORTH Melbourne is close to locking away two more key cogs in its list rebuild, with emerging defenders Miller Bergman and Josh Goater both on the cusp of extending their stays at Arden Street.

It's understood Bergman has already agreed to terms on a fresh new deal, while the Kangaroos have also opened talks with Goater around an extension that will keep him at the club beyond this season.

Their imminent re-signings will follow a two-year deal handed to No.3 draft pick and the round one Rising Star nominee Harry Sheezel earlier this week, keeping the talented youngster at the club until at least 2026.

North Melbourne had prioritised locking away its recent throng of early draft picks as quickly as possible this year, with commitments from Sheezel – as well as Goater (pick No.22 in the 2021 draft) and Bergman (pick No.38 in 2021) – providing a solid start.

Bergman and Goater have both rocketed up new Kangaroos coach Alastair Clarkson's pecking order following strong off-seasons, with the pair both impressing in the side's round one victory over West Coast. – Riley Beveridge

Wonderful news. We've seen what he can do, the composure and skill and heart that he's shown even in his second game. Now he's got a nice buffer to work on taking his game to the next level, and if he cops another bad injury there'll be a comfortable amount of time for him to work through it.

Great news. I really hope he can be that half back accumulator we've been crying out for because his decision making and kicking are top class. Left me gobsmacked more than a few times on the weekend.
Yeah was super impressed with his game (might as well been his debut). Just seems to have a great mix of traits for a HBFer. Looks like he's able to defend 1v1 or as a 3rd man up, can stick a tackle in open space, and then has weapons that are dangerous on the counter. If he can be getting consistently around the 17-20 disp mark good things will happen.

This kid needs some more love.

The defensive work is way better than I anticipated given his size and his skills are awesome. 22 out of his 23 disposals this year have been effective.
yep, uses the footy so well and is a really smart player.

bloody tough as well. Has put his body on the line in the contest and standing under a high ball multiple times already
