Is Steve Daniels still the coach at Southport?
Taken a bunch of afl rejects to the VFL grand final last year.
Local.
Experienced.

Would he not be a perfect assistant coach?

Maybe he’s not interested but you think it would be hard to pass up if he was getting a decent wage to do this full time.
Steven Daniels has already worked for us and it was a bit of disaster (for whatever reason). Seems like the two parties don't want to revisit it.

I asked ChatGPT what sort of clinched responses to expect from Dew. Wasnt disappointed.

AFL Coach Cliches

AFL coaches, like many sports coaches, often resort to generic cliches when addressing the media after a big loss. These cliches can help to deflect criticism, encourage their team, or maintain a positive image. Some common cliches you might hear from an AFL coach in a post-match press conference following a heavy defeat include:

"We were outplayed today."

"Full credit to the opposition; they were the better team."

"It's a tough pill to swallow."

"We need to go back to the drawing board."

"We'll learn from this and come back stronger."

"We didn't execute our game plan effectively."

"We lacked intensity and commitment."

"We'll take this on the chin and move forward."

"It's a wake-up call for us."

"We need to regroup and refocus for next week."

"We'll review the tape and work on our mistakes."

"It's disappointing, but we'll bounce back."

"We didn't capitalize on our opportunities."

"We were beaten in the contested ball."

"We've got some soul-searching to do."

Of course, not all coaches rely solely on cliches when addressing the media, and many will provide more specific insights into their team's performance.

To be fair Dew did not use any of those. I would like if they ask why he did not mix it up when Darcy/Jackson got on top. Chol could ruck more, Ainsworth and others could go inside.

I didn't actually mention Dew in the prompt but quite funny how many of those phrases he uses.

Craig Cameron can go too - who’s he got into the club through trade that’s been worth it?

Rory Atkins?
Ben Long?

Same as at GWS he’s good at drafting top picks…. But I reckon anyone on here could do that

I could do a better job from my laptop.

Not gonna lie if we go on an absolute tear of consecutive wins I will be fickle and back Dewy again. I just don't see it happening and my concerns around how he structures us gameday would still be there. He needs to either become an elite coach at A) motivating/inspiring the players or B) gameday/tactical nous.

My opinion right now is he is average at both (at times, deadset awful gameday strategist). Not a recipe for success. Would rather he was unreal at one and shit at the other so he could out source that weakness.

Coaches are like players though and develop. He will need to have a huge epiphany soon or time will run out. He acts too much like the GM of Footy rather than a coach. Well done on the recent stability Dewy but now it's time to put the sausage rolls down and make this team win.

Comforting words from Wayne Campbell. "We were 2-5 last year and dug ourselves out to get ahead of the ledger by the bye”

So with good fortune we may be able to emulate last year. Finished up being 14th. (Sarcasm intended.)

Yeh watched that. Was a fecking ridiculous comment. What I wanted to hear was why the feck are we in the same position again… after 12-months development, drafting & trading. Bunch of peanuts.

Does anyone else get a migraine from listening to meaningless rethoric.
My brother who is very astute with coaches and gameplan etc was flabbergasted how easily Lyon out coached him in the Stkilda game.

Yes I too detest meaningless rethoric in any situation.

Your brother noting how Dew was out coached must be in fact lost on those running/ruining the club. I can’t remember any tactical move in the past where he has swung the game our way.

Suspect that with almost a full list the selections are becoming more exposed. For example can’t understand why they rushed Andrews into the side. Reckon Farrer would be a very good player with a good coach. Ainsworth should be on thin ice with his lack of goals. Holman does so much hard work he could be excused.

Sick of hearing the "we were 2-5 last year too hurr durr".

The club won BOTH pre-season games last year against two top 4 teams from the previous year.

Lost both this year making it 1-6 compared to 4-3 the same time last year.

This is not the same.

The signs that the gameplan was not stacking up were there before just round 1.

Your brother looking for a new job perchance?
To put it in perspective he hadn't seen a live Suns game since Dew took over and only a couple on TV.
He thought l was being negative and overly critical of Dew.
He rang me after the game and said,
"Yeah he's bad. Early in the second quarter Lyon broke down his gameplan and he didn't respond at all."
