No, it's impossible to know.

We weren't playing him in defense to turn him into a defender.

We were doing it to help him develop and improve his game. And his game HAS improved.

This may have had zero to do with it, or maybe it didn't. You can't know.

There is no part of a forwards game that improves by playing in defense, and yes, that includes defensive forwards (seeing it relies on a different part of the defensive spectrum). There is no part of that decision that had anything to do with improving Fogartys game either. It was us panicking and thinking Fog wasn't our next key forward and trying to find another position for him because he wasn't starring after 3-4 games.

Fogs game improved, but it improved because the penny dropped with Fogs preparation and due to dumb luck with Tex getting rubbed out for a game when otherwise, we would have panicked and dropped Fog. It had sweet **** all to do with how Adelaide coached him until Rahilly got ahold of him, thankfully. As we tried everything to ruin him prior.

Is he seriously whinging about not being on our list? Dude, no one has picked you up.

Has a bit of his old man’s attitude it seems
Believe it or not he's going pretty well this season in the VFL playing some decent footy for Southport in the midfield, certainly better than anything he's ever done before here in the SANFL.

There are a million things that a forward can learn playing in a different role.

He could have gotten a glimpse at how challenging it is for a defender if a forward has multiple leads and second efforts. He could have gotten a sense of what other forwards do to throw a defender off. Shit, he could have just gotten a glimpse at how far off it his aerobic fitness was.

Did it actually benefit him? Look, chances are it didn't. But again - it's impossible to know. We tried multiple ways to improve Fog, and it's not possible to just point to one as being the reason he changed. It probably was a small part of each thing we did that combined to help him.

What, you can make an assumption on Fogs development but i cant ?

Yes, Cook body wasn't mature as an 18 year old like every other 18 year old that gets drafted.
But his skill set is basically the same as that is what got him drafted.
His elusive, got good decision making, vision and skills and knows how to kick a goal.
I feel that is wasted playing a defensive role as not many players possess those skills

Must remember Cook has come off a woeful season. Watching him in the Sanfl finals last year and he barely deserved a game
Moving to half back this year seems to be working wonders. As others have observed many good players play half back flank for teams. This could be Cooks role moving forward - or he may develop further upfield

Either way this has helped him take a big step forward

Used to care. Now you have to hope they aren’t good enough to go top 40.
What’s the point?
You mean the NGA. Talk around media recently is is that figure may be lowered again over coming years (back to a protected top 18/20 only) to ensure sufficient incentives exist.

Re F/S, imagine another Max clone! not sure if any of our respected experienced draft watchers like Bicks or Thunderstruck have any thoughts on Jack? Or even if we have physical attributes - eg similar height?

Yes a good chance the VFL adjust the NGA rules again.
They are just checking with Geelong what they should do.

Is Caleb Tregenza eligible for father son for Port as well?
Simon was 20 and 2 weeks when he played in the Crows' first AFL game. I wouldn't think he could have played 200 or 150 or whatever the SANFL rule was. Had so many injuries in his time at the Crows too, so wouldn't have played many SANFL then.
