If I were Nicks I’d call Max into my office first thing tomorrow morning, hold up a picture of Nick Daicos as say. “Son…

…do your thing”.

This kid would eat up the challenge. Yes, it unsettles the backline. And, yes, Max is essentially playing forward in that scenario…

But tell me that isn’t a mouth-watering match up…that might actually work.
You let a 6 gamer settle and continue to build confidence and develop his trade.
If you want to give that role to someone its someone like Keays.
Max on Elliot is a pretty big task in and of itself

Elliot has been poor all year. Collingwood fans suggesting he’s on the cusp of being dropped. The way Max is playing, that’s a pretty easy assignment.

Hart was absolutely elite - top 3 to 5 type pick.

saved us in the first half 1998 GF. Clearly our best that half.

multiple AA and similarly composed to Max from day one but perhaps even more offensive (would need to check stats) but was AA in both his first 2 years wasn’t he?
If max continues to beat the oppo best small to medium forward for the rest of the year...he will be in that AA conversation himself

Let’s hope Max is as durable as Hart who had an extraordinary record of his first 12 seasons playing 22 games or more in all except 4 years and those 4 years he “only” played either 20 or 21 games. The man was unbreakable until the end.

He has generally been playing on the smaller indigenous players so think Hill is his likely match up. Elliot if he plays get Dood

I like it, send it to the club

Does anyone see similarities to Will Day? Rangey half back with good pace and agility. I think Max could be developed into a decent mid. Put some muscle on and see how he goes.
His lace out pases inside 50 to Tex also lend me to think he should be used forward of centre more.

That's uhh, inspired. I suspect Daicos would smack the living daylights out of Max because shutting down a forward is easier than shutting down a half back, but yeah... inspired.

If he keeps the consistency, could possibly be in our top 5 in the BnF

Not out of the question as he's claimed some huge scalps.

Would be a monster 1st season though, considerimg there are a lot of performers at the moment.

If we’re ranking right now purely on consistency and how effective a player is against his opponent, Max might even be top 3 currently. He’s so far either matched or beaten all comers from the 6 rounds.

You might be close

The criteria is usually doing what the coach wants as well as performing

Dawson, Laird, Sloane, Rachele, Rankine, Tex, Murray, Fogarty , pickaplayer and Michalanney all in the top 10

I know I’ve been pumping him up a lot on this thread, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest if he keeps at this trajectory, he’s got a big chance to even win our BnF!

Obviously, 1st year players often feel the effects of bruising more than experienced players, so I would expect him to slow down his output nearing the year’s end. Though I’m quietly optimistic of this lad seeing how he copped a huge front-on collision and he appears to have shown no ill effects. He might be similar to Hart in terms of indestructibility! 🤞

Look I agree with the top 5 ( perhaps even top 3 at a stretch) but Dawson and Laird have been pretty dominant, with Rachele and Rankine also both rated number one in their respective positions (as quoted in game vs Blues)

Like you say having a degree of diminishing output probably wouldn’t be unexpected as the year goes on. Either way, what a cracking find we have here and here’s hoping brother Jack is also up to the grade

Just a bit of a fun extrapolation, not meant to be taken literally that he’ll end up being 1st. Here’s an interesting thought exercise…

So far in the 6 rounds, who has played the least bad quarters in the team?

My dad made this call in week 3. He said that with how calm Max is when under pressure, how clean he is and his awareness, he could become a very good mid. I shrugged it off at the time but think he’s spot on now.

I went back and looked at the Ben Hart Adelaide fc hall of fame induction speech by roo and vignette. I'd forgotten how reliable and good he was. Him and smart (I had no.7 on my childhood crows Guernsey because I loved smart) were so good and versatile.
Max definitely has a look of Ben Hart from that video. I hope he reaches those heights.
