I still dont think Butts is the answer but serviceable coverage for when KPD is out.
Himmelberg would be my 1st choice but hope we are looking at Cox either this year or next.
More of a need than Redman imo even if Doedee leaves.
Cox, Murray, Worrell, Michalanny become a very good 1v1 defensive unit who can intercept.

I think we will need both. A very good half back like Redman, and good to very good key back in place of Butts.

I'd rather target established mids which is what we need. Flanders and Hollands aren't exactly tearing it up in the VFL so I'd hold off on either for the time being.
Excuse me, only one of the 2 players you named isn't tearing it up in the VFL and it's not Sam Flanders, he is asolutely tearing it up and is a mid with other strings to his bow....

He is likely to be on the trade table too..but what chance he would like to come to SA?..
Every chance I would think, he's from the Weed's home town Fish Creek which is hardly uptown Melbourne, at least a 2 hour drive from Melbourne....and played his top age year with Sam Berry at the Gippy Power.

Iv'e not seen him play straight up this year. Is he a better projected talent than Hately who has been good in the SANFL this year and might be turning things around

My issue with Flanders is he would only be a prospective trade, and given he can't make Gold Coasts best 22 has about as much chance of being what we need as Sam Berry, Billy Dowling, Harry Schoenberg etc.

Honestly in his top age year for Gippy Power there was not a whole lot of difference between his teammate Caleb Serong and Sam Flanders, they were a very dominant duo both showed they were likely to be very good genuine midfielder/forwards at AFL level, Flanders probably the more explosive. He went pick 11 in what has turned out to be a very strong 1st round draft.

4 AFL games this year, 2 as sub and never got anywhere near having a crack in their midfield which has been the basic story of his career to date.

Tom De Koning still hasn't inked a contract has he?

Killed it in the VFL today 34 HO,9 clearances, 23 disposals 19K 4 hb, 8 Marks, 3 tackles.
He's got more than a few big offers on the table, Blues won't likely be able to keep him as they're running into those Collingwood type cap issues.

Also potential they lose Pittonet too, rumoured he's got a multi-year offer from West Coast on the table and Blues don't want to give (or can't afford to) give him more than 1 year.

Flanders has explosive speed and power that none of those guys possess except for Berry in the power department.

Anderson, Rowell, Miller, Swallow and now Alex Davies and Bailey Humphrey pretty fair midfield to get into....

Wonder if Tim Kelly would be gettable out of the Weagles train wreck…?
He is playing very good football , went home for family and depending on how the Eagles finish - they may have 3 1st rounders to help him out

Surely he has to look for more opportunity now that Humphrey has overtaken him.

I know we were linked to him in his draft year but I'm not sure if that was actual smoke or just draft punters guessing we were into him given our needs.

Do you recall if we were ever officially into him?
Possibly looking at Twomey's final Phantom.

SAM FLANDERS

POS: Midfielder
Ht 182cm, Wt 82kg, DOB 24/7/01
From Gippsland Power/Vic Country

DRAFT PROFILE Bio, stats, highlights and more

Flanders is a high-impact player. He can change a game in a burst, whether it be bolting out of a stoppage and shrugging off tacklers, or when he goes forward, either in the air as a strong overhead mark for his size or when he shows his power at ground level. He rose to the occasion late in the NAB League season with some standout displays and he enjoys being in the action, getting in the face of opponents and the odd scuffle. He's a confident character and plays with that energy. He could bring a new element to Sydney's midfield, having shown he has improved his running with good results at the Draft Combine.

If not him? Hayden Young will be strongly considered, as will Lachie Ash if he's available. Both of the half-backs are high on the minds of the Swans. Dylan Stephens' midfield prowess makes him also one of the leading contenders here.

CLASS OF 2019 The one quarter of brilliance that got recruiters talking

FISCHER McASEY

POS: Defender
Ht 197cm, Wt 91kg, DOB 8/3/01
From Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro

DRAFT PROFILE Bio, stats, highlights and more

Adelaide has put plenty of time into McAsey across the season, and could land him with its first pick. The Crows moved back from pick No.4 to No.6 in a deal with the Giants confident a player they liked would be available, and McAsey was never going to be off the board by No.6, despite some interest from the Swans. The Crows don't have much youth in their key-position ranks so McAsey shapes as a long-term player if they swoop. The strong-marking key back has also been used in attack at times, with his versatility and game sense a strength.

If not him? Local option Dylan Stephens is right in the Crows' mix and would also bring something new to their midfield unit. Half-backs Hayden Young and Lachie Ash have also been linked to the club, while Sam Flanders will be considered if on the board.

Going by Hamish's lengthy interview with Cal Twomey the other day I doubt we'll be putting Zac Taylor on the LTI so we can take a pick in next week's MSD, seems we hold out hope he might be back late in the season for SANFL duties.
Maybe McPherson will see the writing on the wall and retire early.

Full list of the MSD nominations to date, noms close wednesday...
At least 183 players have nominated for next week’s AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, including 29 players who have asked for longer-term contracts if they are to be selected.
While nominations officially close on Wednesday, an updated list of early nominations was circulated to recruiters on Monday.

Players from state league competitions around the country have nominated, as well as some potential surprise packets from local competitions.

Eleven players are undergoing medical testing from the AFL in the lead up to the May 31 draft after attracting significant interest from clubs.

Those players are Clay Tucker (Eastern Ranges), Ethan Stanley (Box Hill), Flynn Riley (Northern Knights), Jack Buller (Claremont), Jaiden Hunter (Perth), James Trezise (Richmond VFL), Mutaz El Nour (Richmond VFL), Robert Hansen Jnr (Subiaco), Ryan Maric (Gippland Power), Rye Penny (Calder Cannons) and Will Elliott (Oakleigh Chargers).

Key forward Maric debuted for Box Hill’s VFL side on the weekend and is one of the players to have nominated for a longer 18-month minimum contract given he is shaping as a likely top-three pick.
Former Essendon forward Brayden Ham, former Melbourne defender Marty Hore and former Geelong livewire Quinton Narkle are among other nominations.
