At 5-8 after today’s win, we are still in with a sniff. We are currently just 2 wins (and percentage) off 6th spot with 10 games still to go. The competition for the bottom end of the final spots is very close, and whilst we will probably need to win at least 7 of our remaining games and hope results go our way, we are still alive for the finals race.
Need Kelly and Taylor back, no additional injuries.
Unrelated, a couple of players need alot of practice with their non preferred foot. That is for the off season though.

Fingers crossed we get Cumming, Taylor, Daniels and Kelly back after the break… not bad.
In his post match after today’s game, Kingsley said that Taylor, Cumming and Kelly (as well as Wehr) would be available for selection for our next game against Fremantle.

As for the finals, Kingsley said:
"It's an opportunity to start building the season and see if we can make a play for the pointy end," he said.
"We’re a little way off that at the moment but if we can generate a win next week through playing the right way. Who knows?"

I agree Keefe comes out, any chance Ash is dropped?
Unrelated, some sad news about Marlion Pickett has been revealed.

Brown, Keeffe, Fahey, then Wehr for Angwin.
I personally can’t see Kingsley making that many changes, especially after our win yesterday. Some of the returning players are probably better off having an extra week to recover as the bye follows after our Fremantle match? Nonetheless, good that we will be getting back to full strength over the next couple of weeks, and bodes well for a post-bye finals charge.

Kingsley views us as still being in final contention but is measured in his assessment

"But there's no reason why, with a shift of form and some really strong performances in the next month, (we can't) put ourselves in a really good position to attack finals."

I’m in on a finals run by the boys. Whacked a few dollars on at $21 to make the 8.

Team has been building nicely and now throw in Kelly and Taylor with cumming, daniels etc waiting g in the wings.

We go to the bye with a 6-8 record and are definitely in final contention. We are just 1 win away from 7th place and our percentage improved considerably as well.

After our first back to back win under Kingsley, we have equaled the number of wins we had for the entire 2022. A comprehensive win against a Finals contender, just shows what a talented and skilled team we have.

Kingsley has impressed with his coaching so far, and our team seem to have adapted well to the new system. We also have almost all of our players coming back. The win against Fremantle will hopefully imbue us with confidence and self belief, and we come out of the bye launching a successful finals run.

The market has dramatically responded after our excellent performance yesterday. We are now $5 to make the finals.

FWIW fox sports have done a finals predictions and unfortunately have us winning 9–10 games and coming 15th mainly due to us having the 5th hardest fixture.

Remaining fixture difficulty:Fifth-hardest
You look at the ladder and see the Giants are only a game out of eighth, and you think ‘well, they’ve been broadly competitive all year... could they make a run?’. But even in this season, where everyone keeps losing (meaning the bar for top eight entry is going to be lower), it’s hard to see it happening. The Giants will be heavy underdogs away to Melbourne, Adelaide and Port Adelaide, so they’d need to win the rest of their games to reach 12 - a tall order indeed, and one we think will be a bit too difficult. But at least we’ll know soon, because if they upset one of the Demons or Crows, they’ll still be in the hunt.
Fox Footy’s projection: 9.6 projected wins, finishing
15th

Difficulty is based on % of remaining opponents. Because we lost to WCE we are viewed as an easier game and don’t player ourselves where as we need to play all the sides who have beat up on WCE and have a higher %.

Doesn’t really take into account how well teams are actually playing.

Agreed. We've been pretty handy against the Crows in Adelaide from memory. Be great to storm home this year even if we miss out on finals.
I think playing in Alice this weekend certainly bring it back to a more even contest.
It’s just that the record of teams playing after a bye this season is horrendous - 0 from 8. But then there’s a first time for everything

It’s an overrated stat

Most of the results are as expected or 50/50 calls. Hawks win over lions is only real anomaly.

Hawks lost to suns on Gold Coast
Dons lost to freo in perth
Melb lost to cats in geelong
West coast lost to swans in Sydney
Cats lost to port in adelaide
Suns lost to blues in melb
Lions lost to hawks in melb
Freo lost to tigers in Perth

We’ve been screwed by the fixture this season:
Finished third last, last year, yet only play the bottom two teams from last year (Roos and Eagles) once! Wtf!
There are other team that finished above us play them twice. It’s rigged.
The AFL cannot be seen to favour us in anyway as they are our owners. Yet ok for the Bombers to play all bottom 3 teams twice! The AFL want the bombers to be making finals due to the extra revenue it will bring vs us for example.

Just imagine playing Eagles and Roos as two games at home, that’s an extra 2 wins on the board, could be the difference in making finals (plus the percentage boost)!

The same way we are treated at the tribunal and have given up challenging any sanction.
It’s never going to be a fair comp when you are not playing everyone evenly.
