We're replacing McKenzie's absolute left foot cannon with a Jonas' serviceable 30m sideways chip passes. That's a huge loss.
It's alright, he'll only touch it once or twice. Probably for the best.

If we can repeat the 3rd quarter against the Suns, we'll be hard to beat anyway (although playing just 1 quarter this week may be fraught with danger).

How quickly the "mighty" fall.. From 2022 Champion Data if you give it any credence, we'd be replacing one above average defender with another one. .🤣

They've been referring to him as the Captain of the Maggies, maybe before the McKensie injury that's how they thought the year would play out.
Regular Captain Sutcliffe injured, Lamont has been the acting Captain; albeit, Jonas is the Captain when playing either firsts or seconds

It would be a good midfield battle if we played our second midfield of JHF, Boak and Drew against their starting midfield. But Rozee, Butters and Wines? Nah lol.

Don't get me wrong, I think they'll be a dangerous opponent with their home crowd and big forwards, but it's not the midfield where they'll get us.

I come in peace.
To answer the above, we Walsh Cerra Cripps. Should be a great battle in the middle dont you think?
The top few are definitely pretty even. I guess outside of that group the gap is the fact we have a brownlow medallist and 300 game star like Boak and Wines as well, we're not talking mugs here. Then we have the sort of depth that Drew and SPP bring. Then you've got our array of wingers/hbf's, Duursma, Bergman, Farrell, Houston, Burton, etc.

Whether you win or not, it's undoubtable our midfield is currently significantly deeper. It's the best midfield we've ever had. Our weakness lies in the ruckman and our key backs. You could also mount an argument that another elite small forward would do wonders for us.

^This.

You can always have a bad day in the middle, but on balance if we were to lose then we'll most likely lose the game because their tall forwards will get hold of us. If they can be efficient with their ball use, allow those forwards a 1:1 look at it, and then convert, we will be up against it.

Reading the Carlton preview thread and apparently Clurey is still part of our defence lol yeah that 1 game in R3 has consolidated him as a key part of our defence in 2023

A midfield 3 of whoever Carlton have plus the usual reaming we get by the umpires against them might be enough to get enough decent forward entries in against our undersized backline to cause a problem.

the blues win a few games in a row, someone in the media calls them KHHAAALL-N and the endorphins flow, they lose their minds, they think its 1995 all over again

Of course Carlton can win. Any team can bring maximum pressure and force the other side to cough it up, make mistakes, rush their disposals etc. The question is can they sustain it for long enough to overcome the quality deficit. Carlton have definitely ramped it up in recent weeks, and the pressure factor was a huge reason for their good work last year, but their gameplan and midfield quality could not get them over the line in the 2nd half of last year when they started getting tired and the pressure dropped off. Lets see what they can bring this week.

The Carlton board is the most confident I’ve seen any supporter base all year.

Like we are not unbeatable by any means, but it’s almost a fait accompli to them after three soft kills.
It's why I wish I'd seen their last few games, at least then I'd be able to understand why the hype is so huge after having gone 1-8 in the 9 games before and looking like not only a poor team, but poor list.

I saw a sane post, that they'd also think they were pretty good had they won 13 in a row. Well they did back in 2000, Kouta was the MVP and im pretty sure they would've thought that team was amazing and a contender. They also lost to us after that streak when we were a cellar dweller like they are.
