What does not push the kids to hard mean? They are 18 year old young men raring to go with all the energy anyone could dream of. They will be going hard as hell all the time naturally.
Maybe if we stopped treating them like 12 year old kids they would develop much quicker and be the player we actually thought we drafted. The sooner young players get the hang of it the better, no point holding them back in any way shape or form.
Nah.

1. Kids struggle with the physical demands of the midfield in the first year. The body is not usually ready to handle it.
2. You're asking 18 year kids to go from playing their own age, to playing dudes 8 years older. 8 more years in the gym, 8 more pre-seasons, 8 years more experience. Daicos and Judd are unicorns. Most kids take a few years to be able to compete in the midfield.

An older, big bodied, experienced guy can take the heat off them. Whether it be through rotation, or just putting their body on the line. It's not coddling, it's just an easier transition.

That is just guessing, for every player you named you could name the opposite of ones who go straight in with no issues.
But into a midfield with seasoned players.

Imagine Uniacke being drop shipped into the Bulldogs. You can't tell me he wouldn't be way ahead of where he is now. He's had to do the whole thing alone. By himself against dudes much bigger and much move savvy.

This is our big test. Because we're in the vortex (or the pit, or whatever you want to call it), can we get out of it quickly with such a young midfield?

Butters and Rozee have been automatic selections since being drafted almost.
They've gone into a midfield with Wines, Boak, SPP etc And they've transitioned in there as the 4/5th banana etc.

It's like giving bazzo the option of 3rd tall banana, or go take on Curnow or Cameron. In a perfect world, we start him off as the 3rd banana and let him work up.

We have a midfield with no bananas. Really hard. If Shuey and Yeo had some sort of continuity, we'd be rotating Ginbey through there off the flanks.

Hear what you are saying but not sure if your conclusion - it's not worth the risk is right. I mean would Collingwood be where they are without Nick Daicos? Even Port, JHF has been great for them and people forget that Butters and Rozee have been automatic selections since being drafted almost.

I think young players need to be managed but if it's worth the risk completely depends on the value the player will potentially bring.

I don't think it's a hard and fast rule, I'd say in most cases the negatives outweigh the positives and there'll always be exceptions like Daicos (who's in year 2 by the way) and JHF hasn't had that huge an impact either. Keep in mind that both these kids also have an elite list around them, whereas we are part injured and mostly shit.

Personally I'd rather Ginbey had spent most of the year developing his body and gameplan but we haven't had the luxury for either and he's been thrown to the wolves a bit. And I don't think he has a bad hamstring strain either - I was oddly relieved he'd finally get the rest he deserves coz it looks like he's been running on empty since round 10.

Ginbey was tunnelled by Pickett early in the first quarter and got up sore, won't take long to find it.

Pickett's lawyer released a statement saying Pickett was preparing for his upcoming time "in the yard".
I’m confused did his lawyer say that because hes preparing to be physical in the yard? Or was it his tunnelling skills so he can get out of the yard?

That's a fair point

He'll make more from those 2 HJs stores long-term than he ever will as a senior coach.

Smart under the table move.

Gets two HJs at half price. Renegotiates contract on reduced income.

WCE re-direct savings into soft-cap.

Bingo - rebuild in full swing.

PS - all of the above is just an outcome of a scrambled brain.
