How would people feel about Tarryn Thomas on our list?

Depending on what we have to give up to get him and how much it would cost us in salary?
Thoughts on a role player like Jack Silvagni?
Silvagni would be an alright B-tek Hogan replacement if we needed one, just a bloke that can compete in the air and get it to ground for our smalls, but he's a flat track bully

Be like the Hogan deal and he has 1 year left on his contract so he will have a point to prove next season which would work in our favour for his output next season. Mumford would need to take him in like Hogan as well 🤦‍♂️

No to TT and Jack Silvagni.

FYSA, the Hawthorn BF board has a supposed ITK who reckons that Nick Haynes' management has agreed to terms to trade to Hawks. They believe it means he comes with a first round pick (honestly, reading their board, they mostly don't give a shit about Nick, just the pick). However, it does seem that GWS agreement hasn't been agreed, according to the ITK.

I'm not saying I believe the story, or that we'll trade a first round pick (clearly, I hope that bit is absolutely not true); but some stories that seem unlikely end up happening during trade week, so just letting folk know. :( If the rumour gets legs, it will get more attention on BF on the D&T board, and potentially posters coming into this thread.

If that’s true I would think Harry is most likely staying. If Harry is going too that’s a lot of money freed up in the salary cap.

Interesting bit from the ‘Ex Giants player watch’ and a post by Melbourne GWS on former GWS and Essendon player selling a house in Melbourne:

1689994000840.png

The article found at Carlton North: Ex-Essendon player Devon Smith lists his first home, a terrace house with glass wall - realestate.com.au, states the following:

“Smith said he purchased the Victorian-era single-fronted terrace at 749 Drummond St in 2015, after his manager advised him to invest his money wisely.

“I was only 22 at the time and wanted to buy property in Sydney but the market was ridiculous and I just couldn’t get in,” Smith said.’

Now Smith requested a trade to Essendon and left GWS at the end of the 2017 season. That means that when Smith was attempting to buy into the Sydney market in 2015 but ‘couldn’t get in’ because it was ‘ridiculous’, he still had about two years left with GWS.

Imagine for a minute if he had been able to buy a Sydney property, perhaps he would have been more settled at the club and more invested in a future with it. This is not to say he wasn’t and the lack of a property in his then home city meant all would have been rosy; but those of us with our own home and even family know it settles a man.

Now imagine how better it would be for the club if as many players as possible had their own homes in Sydney.

During last year’s draft our own recruiters openly acknowledged that the ‘go home factor’ as a consideration in their deliberations, an advantaged that the VFL+ clubs have over us also with their father/son rules. I would argue from the above that the advantage for COLA for GWS was not just any difference in the value of purchasing and/or renting a property between Melbourne and Sydney; it was the ability to encourage players to stay and become invested in the community.

Yeah, that's probably my thought too. One or the other.

If we lose HH to FA, then we'd keep Haynes - one more year on high $$ won't hurt our position. You'd then see how he goes next year (another year older, and I think Haynes would be quite realistic about his skills and athleticism dropping off) while having Cam Fleeton and Leek Aleer able to step into the intercepting role.

If HH has agreed to stay, and AK has decided to play him down back, then there's too much $ tied up in both HH & Nick, competing for one spot.

I don't see why we'd ship Nick off if we knew we were losing HH. That would be a tonne of $$ freed up, suddenly we're short of a reliable interceptor. Haynes has been back to good form this year, so it's not specifically form-related, other than, we've swapped someone else into that same role who can also play there to a high degree.

Anyway, it's all speculation. We'll see in a few months how it plays out in reality.

That all makes sense to me.
The deal also had their Future first coming back btw so I wouldn't be tooooo worried as I'm sure Hawthorn would be freaked out by that risk.

That seems like completely wishful thinking.
If it was reported that someone ITK reported this trade to a club other than their own I'd give it some thought.
Haynes may move, but doubt it, we won't be giving up a pick for him to go .

The versions that I've seen (and admittedly, there are a multitude of scenarios across multiple boards, all in favour of their team) have not involved Hawks' future first round coming back - mostly, posters have that planned to get Suns' first round pick so it's not "wasted" matching Walter. The best I've seen it's Hawks' second round pick (around #33 currently) coming back to us, but mostly worse than that. Or including Jake Riccardi in the trade.

I'm not worried, I never get worried in advance, just pissed off if we do something I think is stupid once it's happened.

That seems like completely wishful thinking.

Well, certainly at this point in time it's all wishful thinking. The problem is if wishes come to fruition.

As I said, just passing on a rumour. I don't do that for everything I see around BF, but this one aligns to what has been discussed recently.

Good points but Smith was such a selfish tool. He had the attributes to be exactly what our team needed, a skilful defensive pressure small forward.

However he was too selfish and our coach was unable to get him to adjust his mindset. By the time he went to Essendon it was too late and even though he did start to become more accountable his knee was buggered and it was too late.

It is mainly because of these “me me me”attitudes that cost us winning a flag. Too many selfish entitled high picks not willing to play their role.

Shame we didn’t have a strong leader like Kingsley to whip them into shape earlier. Leon was such a waste of space.

How would people feel about Tarryn Thomas on our list?

Mercurial talent and something different to what we have but a poisonous individual and culture killer.

I want more blokes like Bedford, Perryman and Buckley that give their lives and unconditional effort, blokes like O’Halloran that are tough and play their role.

Thomas is a throwback to the high draft picks that are selfish and think of themselves first.

Couldn't agree more.

I want more guys like Bedford, what a signing for us.

A guy who just couldn't break into their 22 because of lack of opportunity. We need to find more guys like him.

So many of our players have so much praise for Kingsley and the gamestyle. I hope this season's results can encourage some more fringe players to view GWS as a more viable destination to have a crack to break into our 22. I'd love for us to find a solid KPF to partner with Hogan until Cadman's game matures.

True indeed. We had such a talented group of players and generational top draft picks. Too late now, but if we had a coach of Kingsley’s calibre to shape them, we would have had at least a couple of premierships by now.

Or Choc

Yes, I really rate Mark Williams. In retrospect, he should have swallowed his pride and stayed around so that he was the coach when Sheedy left
Personally think Sheeds should of left when he was supposed to and let Choc takeover.
