It sounds like you're pretty committed to matching a bid for Logan Smith - is that right?

But what about Cooper Bell - will you take him too?
Regarding Bell, that's a big question mark IMHO. I would opine that it's not certain, but is certainly a possibility. We could easily be looking to take a KPD, and could look in-academy to do so - but equally could grab someone else and potentially extend him in the academy as a 19-year-old to see if he develops further (he's pretty raw at the moment).

Another puff piece on a potential draftee, this time from SEN. Interesting because the SEN mock draft has him going to GWS, and he's a midfielder so possibly of actual interest to GWS.

This year’s National Draft is touted as one of the best in recent years and with that comes some potential gems in the third and fourth rounds. Vic Metro coach Rob Harding has named midfielder Luke Kennedy as potentially one of those late-draft players who could rise up the rankings in re-drafts down the line.

The 181cm Sandringham Dragons midfielder is rated as being able to kick on both feet, clean hands and a two-way endurance runner. SEN’s 2024 Phantom Draft has him falling to GWS at pick 63 and Harding is bullish about what he could become at AFL level. “I will have to go into my own region (to answer this), but I have a player at the Dragons named Luke Kennedy who played senior footy as a 15-year-old, won the best and fairest in the seniors as a 16-year-old and just happened to be in a year where the top midfielders were Levi Ashcroft, Jagga Smith, Josh Smillie, Murphy Reid – they were probably preordained from 12-18 months ago,” Harding told SEN’s
Sportsday.

“Luke has just played consistently great footy over the last two years. He was in the Vic Metro train-on squad that we had. Didn’t get a game unfortunately, but he has gone up against these top-end draft picks and done a really good job against them. He’s a classic six-foot midfielder who is clean on both sides. He’s going to get picked in the 40s or 50s, I think, and he’s going to end up being a really good player. There’s going to be a lot of players like that in this draft. The thing we always have to remember with these kids is that they develop at different rates."

Ideally would love us to get one of Lindsay or Travaglia but that seems very unlikely unless we move up.
loads of mock drafts have Lindsay going to us.
I think it is a reasonable chance
My Ideal draft would be Lindsay, Hotton and Oliver.

Looks like you have seen phantoms I haven't seen as the phantom I've seen from the likes of the Age, Codesports and Sen has Lindsay going earlier than our picks. But at this stage who really knows.

Apparently the Herald Sun says we will trade up to get pick 8.
If so, I think we should condider a a trade 21,F2 for say 40, Melbourne F1 with essendon.
Hopefully we can get some intell on how Oliver, Petracca are likely to go next year.

Agree, if we want either Trevaglia or Lindsay we will have to move up and probably lose those two mid teen picks. Travaglia would be awesome, intercepting running machine, big upgrade on either Perryman or Cumming.

Here's the final National Draft order, after the list list changes and excess picks removed. What shows in Lore's spreadsheet as #74 for GWS has been activated, but comes in one place (I haven't been bothered to work out who lost a pick before us).

I wonder if they would except one of the teen picks and 21 for 8.
Maybe a pick swap in their favour as some steak knives
Probably not. Wouldn’t make much sense for us to give you 8 for only 15/16 and 21.

We would surely want both.

Bit of chatter on our board about just how far we could make a trade with you go.

15+16+21

For

8+32+47(should come in abit after bids)

According to Cal names we like include:
Travaglia
Berry
Hotton
Shanahan
Matt Whitlock
Jonty Faull
Harry Oliver
Olli Hannaford

You would think this would be pretty accurate at this stage given final interviews etc.

So would think if we managed to trade up then Travaglia, if we don’t then Berry, Hotton, Shanahan in mix for first selections and then one of Matt Whitlock, Faull, Oliver for last of the 1st rounders. Hannaford for 2nd rounder. I love the look of Berry for us.

I’ll probably get this horribly wrong (as I did with Nick Haynes years ago) but the one guy I really don’t like for us is Cooper Hynes. I’ve watched his highlights several times and he just looks so slow.

Every time he gets it he looks like he is just about to be tackled. He looks like he has learnt to deal with his lack of agility and makes decent decisions but I just don’t think he suits our setup. Is a nice height.

Seems like a possiblity to slide. Fox and Cal both have the Whitlock's going a lot higher than they did a month ago.

we definitely wont trade out all 3.

I suspect it will be 15&16 for 8.

Hopefully with some later pick swaps in our favour, but that will depend on who is more motivated to trade.

The one missing here is Xavier Lindsay.
Everyone has linked him to us until this point.

Haha. Just wanted a more extreme metaphor than comparing 'apples to oranges'.

Rowston and Aleer are not even remotely competing for the same spot.

Hope to see them both make big inroads this year.
I get you now

I was comparing rowston to leake, the utility we drafted last year who played midfield in the VFL towards the end of the year

the reason I suggested it was that 21 will become 25. So it’s a second rounder.

32 might move 1-2 spots but 47 comes in a fair bit.

So you would be winning
