For those who provided an August Rankings update, here it is in table format

View attachment 1795221
I made an average power rankings based off this table (I used Cal's Phantom Form Guide from today). It was a bit hard to do more players as ESPN only list 20 players and some players don't appear in draft experts top 30 so it can skew the result. I will update it once giantroo releases an updated September edition.

1. Harley Reid = 1.17
2. Jed Walter = 1.83
3. Colby McKercher = 3.33
4. Daniel Curtin = 4.83
5. Zane Duursma = 5.5
6. Nick Watson = 5.66
7. Ryley Sanders = 6.66
8. Ethan Read = 8.17
9. Connor O'Sullivan = 9.17
10. Nate Caddy = 9.33
11. Jake Rogers = 11
12. Darcy Wilson = 12.33
13. Ollie Murphy = 14.83
14. Jordan Croft = 15.33
15. Will McCabe = 17.83
16. Mitch Edwards = 18
17. Caleb Windsor = 18.2
18. Riley Hardeman = 19.5

That tells a story, we need to forget this idea WCE would swap with us for a pick 15 (ports pick). At the very least it will take pick 2&3 for pick 1.

And we can’t do it, just way to risky if Reid is injury prone or doesn’t sign by the end of next year imagine the talk of us giving up pick 2 & 3 for him.

The JHF offer to us from the Crows is the precedent for pick 1, from memory pick 4, pick 6 and Melbournes first rounder as well for JHF pick 1.
We got a second round pick back.

And Reid is way more highly rated than JHF for good reason.

Caddy dropped a few marks he would normally take, and his set shot kicking was a bit wayward, however this was still an impressive performance. At times he seemed to be waging a one man battle against the Dragons defense, with his teammates targeting him practically every time they went forward.

Yep, once Tex and Hawkins retire those gorillas are starting disappear. Harry McKay has been worked out, guys like Tom Lynch and Jeremy Cameron will cause some headaches but the new prototype forward is Curnow and you need to be very flexible to keep those types quiet.
Curnow is just Jarrad Waite basically. Nearly exactly the same size, build, gadget arms and mobility. If anything W80 was more mobile. Curnow seems more resilient and a bit more mellow as well.

There will always be a place for big gorilla forwards if they're good enough. Every player gets worked out. Then they have to develop their game and their fitness to push thru that. That's the challenge facing Harry McKay.

But I think a player like Curnow, or W80 ... or Duck for that matter (193cm/85ish kg like the other two) will always be sought after. Its a perfect mix of height and athleticism.

What about that list says to you that it would take picks 2 and 3 to get Reid?

Also, Adelaide's offer was pick 6, Adelaide's F1 (with unknown value at the time) and upgrading our F2 for Melb F1 (which basically evens out).

Not keen on Caddy. As much as Larkey needs support we are adding George and Comben again to the forward line next year.
I can see flaws with his kicking technique, hence why he doesn’t convert most of his shots.

Yeah that's my issue with him. Can it be corrected?

How consistent Reid has been for 2 years now. Would have gone number 1 last year.

Yep sorry pick 6th, next years first and the Melbourne pick (which isn’t the same as Adelaide’s 2nd we got back)

That’s more points then pick 2&3. Not that I am convinced on the point’s calculations.

Remember Reid is rated way more highly then JHF for good reason as well.

I dont think that Reid is rated way more highly than JHF.

And 2 + 3 = 4751 points
6 + 6 + 18 - 22 = 3642 points

Thats not close.

Edit: just to add 2 + 15 = 3629 points (matching Adelaide's offer).

If you want to call it 3 + 19 with pushing picks back = 3182 and we would need to add pick 38 to beat Adelaide's offer.

Screw paying overs for pick 1. Swap pick 2 to Gold Coast for pick 5 and their first next year.

That way we get:
2 of McKercher, Curtin, Wizard, Duursma
Plus Sanders
Plus a top 8 pick next year

We end up with the players we want anyway (or darn close to) plus a top 8 pick next year as a bonus.

Undeniably good business.

I remember Akermanis said years ago 'you can never have too many quality mids'. That early 2000's team of the Lions had so many quality mids. Now some 20 years later....Collingwood being arguably the best team this year has a plethora of quality mids. They gotta stick Sidebottom on the wing and Adams at half-forward to fit them in.

Just get the best kid(s) avaliable re the draft. If it happens to be midfielders then so be it.
That brisbane side had quality everywhere. Not just mids.

But I do agree with your general point tho. Players who are good enough to play midfield should be able to play elsewhere as well imo.

Ok fair play, my mistake on the points.

Harley Reid is much more highly rated than JHF though that’s indisputable.

I hope we could pull something off I really do, for the supporters and the numbers on kids backs more than anything. 2 & 15 won’t get close IMHO.

Hopefully including crossing from Carlton to North at some stage in the next few years! 🤞

I tried to tell someone on this thread the exact same thing, they were adamant we had Walter on our board at No. 2.
If we think he's the second best player and worth pick 2 we should have him at two and bid on him at two, too. We assume the Suns will match but they could have some catestrophic breakdown of comms or some similar unforseen issue and somehow not bid. Unlikely, obviously, but worth it if it happens and if not they still have to match which may give us a player we might otherwise miss later in the draft.

JHF is and will be a better player than Harley.

Any suggestions we trade pick 2 and 3 for HR is ludicrous, ridiculous and outright craziness.

At best we trade 2 and ports pick if we are hell bent on getting HR.

I'd rather keep 2,3 and hopefully bid on Sanders( if AFL grants us our wish).

Dursma and Mckercher with 2 and 3.

Shut the door and bring on 2024.

Prolific work in the contest was the highlight for Sanders this week. If he didn't win it himself he was laying a tackle to ensure the Knights mids couldn't escape.

Sanders also looks such a strong overhead mark. Ben10 like.
Just watched Sanders for the first time on youtube.

I thought that i was watching JHF.

The Colonel just needs the telltale goatee and we're on a huge winner: JHF without the considerable baggage.

Even if he’s not talked about in the top couple of picks, I still get the feeling the player we’ll most regret not taking from this draft crop is Caddy.
Same here. Mobile player, w80, Curnow sort of height and wingspan.

Yeh hard to compete with a side fresh from merger benefits and local access selections.

Spine of:

Lynch
Brown
<Pick the Brownlow mid of your choice>
Leppitsch
Michael

Crikey.
Crikey was a gun, probably the best of the lot.
