Not quite D168.

The Prime time TV slots over the decades, has had a LOT to do with clubs strength, and therefore they're inner culture. Cellar Dwellers learn to lose.
The big clubs get bigger, and the lesser clubs shrink, in all ways.

This has been a soup of the AFL's making, over past generations.

TV rights has corrupted the whole shebang. Handouts does not even out the playing field.
There was a great article written about this years ago. Why the so called minnows when they bottom out, find it so much harder to get out of the cellar dwellar position. Was a number of reasons, and i think this was included. That loser mentality filters down across the whole club. Lack of blockbuster games, lower supporter base, not on prime time tv as often. It's definitely a thing. Ironic that Kangas were the club that spawned Friday night footy with Wayne Carey under lights! They can't seem to buy a prime time slot or blockbuster game these days. With the midfield they're assembling, that could change soon enough.

Also i think with north, they're geological position... along with being also-rans for so long pre TV, had this effect on them, the same as we are talking about.

Supporters can die off, and others can just give up. We are still struggling imv like this, today.

Gresham apparently on decent money next year.
Gresham is a FA? This idea makes no sense as it only benefits Essendon. Shiel is overpaid and Essendon are happy to lose him. Why would Saints want to confect a way for Essendon to get a first rounder out of that?

If I'm saints I'm calling Essendon's bluff. You don't offer a player a big contract on the condition that their old club will play ball at the trade table. If they're offering Gresham enough that Saints are going to get a first rounder then just let that play out and get Shiel for cheap as Essendon are trying to push him out anyway.

Anyone followed Buku Khamis over the years. Out of contract and only got one game this year. Hard to see him crack into that Bulldogs side.
There’s a kid in this draft who should be available with a late second who I really like. He’s very similar - presuming also Sudanese background.

Was named AA back pocket and I’d rather we have a crack at him with a later pick if possible.

Luamon Lual.

I might be getting confused again but I thought Gresham was contracted and has 1 or 2 more years on $500+.

According to The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph, the clubs’ experienced list bosses Adrian Dodoro and Stephen Silvagni are concocting a trade and free agency ploy that could see an extra first round pick get created through free-agency compensation for St Kilda free agent Jade Gresham.

Amazing that people who laugh at a hypothetical Oliver deal think Naughton is a target to aim for lol. Both have the same chance of happening which is 0

Would prefer JUH over Naughton.

Would put up Oliver with pick swaps to balance.

Keep our pick 5 and bring in Sanders. JUH and Sanders would make us an instantly better team.

In what world do you think JUH would actually leave the bulldogs for us? We'd need to pay about 15 first rounders

Amazing how posts get read after constant proclamations of blocking said poster...

Hi TK! 👋

I can’t see Oliver happening but wouldn’t shock the shit out of me if Naughton was gettable.

OOC/RFA next year and Bulldogs are way too stacked for height in the forward half. Especially if they get Croft in this draft.

If the deal was reasonable, you don’t see Naughton helping our back half (and going forward at times) for a few years?

Not my dream target but I can see some merit.

Hate to do this to you again haha But Naughton won't be a free agent end of next year (going by footywire anyways).

Of course he'd help us, but why would he move from the bulldogs to us to play in the back line he could just do it the dogs. We aren't gonna pay him much more than they could afford. Dogs wouldn't let him for for less than what Cameron got.

Maybe he dislikes Cuban politics?

Can’t believe people negatively react to posts they disagree with 😢
Would be a horrific deal for us. Both first rounders gone again this year for another forward and side with problems in the midfield and down back.

He’ll almost certainly be in the backline if he stays at Dogs and Darcy/Croft/Jamara all come on.

They could take the chance to trade for young mids though and sounds as though we have more cap space to get one of these types of deals done.

Anyway I’m not dead keen on it. Just wouldn’t shut it straight down (which you tend to do a bit TK).

I do shut it down because it's pie in the sky. No player as high profile as Naughton has moved across Victoria to the dees, not since someone like Peter Moore which happy to be corrected on was under the old VFL 10 year rule. Throwing up someone like Naughton you may aswell aim for Charlie Curnow, Nick Daicos, Nick Larkey etc if you wanna go outrageous

Fair enough.

Again, not totally outrageous IMO given their plethora of young talls and need for midfield targeted draft collateral.

Two different things though. If I was the bulldogs or Carlton would I trade Naughton or McKay? For Carlton absolutely, for the dogs I'd play him back first then consider trading him yep. Same way id listen to offers for Oliver. But absolutely none of them will happen. Clubs just roll along with the same players and never really aggressively fill gaps
