Looks like the only exciting thing that will happen in this trade period for Collingwood is us gatecrashing the Grundy trade to the Swans by way of reneging on the salary as per last years' agreement.

Richmond added literally only Tom Lynch after 2018 then won two flags with different players all coming from within their system. You dont need to trade for players every year to stay successful. That being said, Wright will have something up his sleeve.
Agree, but especially with the last part. They’ll definitely look to add if there are opportunities to do so.

I am no expert in the area and havent read too much but on first principles I think the biggest issue here may be the difficulty of proving the benefits of helmets and the desire not too recommend them unless there is really good proof.

Nobody can run proper prospective trials on helmets and head knocks as its not ethical. So any evidence is going to be retrospective and poor quality. Unless you got some results that were pretty unquestionable evidence no one is going to say helmets protect because of the concern it would induce players to go out and put their heads on the line thinking they were protected.

As it stands I would guess there may be some benefit but its way off any level that would lead experts to endorse them for safety
From an ethics point of view. If the AFL payed some players to wear helmets. It could be AFL, VFL, AFLW, etc (the traditional soft ones not the NFL ones) say 100 people for 1-5 seasons and then compare concussion results between helmeted and non-helmeted individuals I dont think thats an issue in terms of ethics because helmets are unlikely to cause increased long term issues with concussion, if set up properly. In fact it would probably score them some points with the victims of concussion. But maybe I am missing something.

Wonder if there will be a rush on fringe players after our premiership. Seems to be that pies look at positional weakness and age profile. Will be interesting who out there fits out need!

It's easy to get sucked into fake accounts, but its better to check the bio/profile first.
If I've learned anything from the medjia it's first is best, accuracy second.

I even find Doedee an odd target.

Murphy is young, Howe appears to be playing on, Maynard still exists and Charlie Dean will hopefully force his way in.
Doedee will take over from Howe when Howe retires.

Also we need the KPD depth. We saw when Howe went down, Frampton was a solid backup but he's not an intercept team defense kind of guy vs Doedee who plays exactly our way.

As long as his knees are alright, getting him on the same contract as what we offered McStay is worth it in our current flag window. He's been a better player at Adelaide than McStay was at Brisbane.

Goldstein would've been a nice acquisition, even now he's a marginally better ruckman than Cox (endurance) and Cameron (tap-work).

Doedee is a disastrous target so I'm quite glad that has fallen through.

The target we should be going after is Will Brodie to replace Adams. Has weaknesses but is an elite contested ball winner / clearance specialist. Is also a superior replacement to Adams, as given his size he can actually manage larger opponents like Bontempelli, Petracca, Green etc. Will also be within budget from a trade capital perspective.

I would be trading a second round pick for Brodie, or even a 1st round pick for Brodie if Fremantle chips in a significant portion of his salary.

Heard a rumour (that I’m taking with a massive grain of salt) that we’re looking into Naughton but have absolutely no idea how we’d get it done. I simply don’t see how it’s possible.

We have zero draft capital and they’ll no doubt ask for a good player in return. Not sure who I’d be willing to give up that the Bulldogs would want.
End of 2024 would be my prediction.

If we can get the 350k back out of the Grundy deal and keep or draft picks that would do me this year.
We have Dean, Noble, AJ, Reef, Allan as well as McStay and Adams - that were not ion the GF team..
To me it all depends on 2 things:
1. Dean being able to go,
2. Steene's development.

Get the platform ready for the end of 2024 retirements.

First or second round pick for Brodie, that is an interesting thought, he can't get a have at Freo, I don't know his contract status but if he's not in contact he will probably be delisted, wouldn't be close to getting a game for us either

We've got good depth and no obvious holes. We're not significantly improving the 22 without spending a bomb and adding a gun and none seem to be in the horizon. We need to be thinking of the future as we have our share of veterans, but they're all still really important so you're not pushing anyone out. So you can't add ready made replacements yet as it just means quality in the twos.

We're at an odd stage. I find it hard to see what you'd do other than simply bring in kids and save your pennies for when the veterans start to leave and bring in ready made players then.

And Tom Lynch is a huge get, if we could add something like him, in a position we need would be amazing, i am sure Wright etc is across everything as they have been for last two years

Agree with that, but the timing just seems bad. Who is playing 2s next year?
