Wtf. Auto renew this early? No warning?

Was very confused to see $99 out my account. Wasn’t planning on buying membership until 2024.

Not even a welcome back email as a thank you for the membership.

Class.
There was an email awhile ago confirming to make any changes to your membership by around this date or it would be renewed automatically
 
None of us on 5 game memberships did. Why they have taken this membership option away is boggling. Upgrading us to 11 games without telling us, is just as confusing.
I called last week to downgrade my membership from 11 games to 3. They actually processed it correctly (along with the $40 pet patron for my dog which is in essence a donation)

I never received the email.but my wife did. That's how I knew the date to call the membership department by ti make changes

Has anyone had any luck getting an email response out of the membership team? I’ve been meaning to call to query why my membership is $100 more than my family members on identical packages but keep forgetting with work/ general life stuff. Tried emailing 3 times after hours over the past 3 weeks and no responses.

That's why they sign people up for so cheap. It's like when u sign up to get that first bottle of wine for $10 or the first model car on the front of a magazine for $5

I received an email notifying us of the Prem Club changes, stating

You will receive a renewal email in the coming weeks outlining further membership details, pricing, payment options and other important information for 2024. If you wish to make any changes to your membership package, you will be able to do so at this time.

I never received any renewal email. I get tons of mail from the club, and receive the renewal email every year, and every year I reply asking them to not renew.

This year I didnt even get the mail to tell them not to.

That sucks. You may have got it, but it was poorly written- definitely easy to glance over. I just dug mine out from the 19th September.

I got an email today from the club. It was a partner offer, IPS Cleaning Solutions. They specialise in commercial cleaning and proactive building maintenance. Give them a call and maybe they can sort out any membership enquiries, upgrades, auto renew, reserved seating etc etc…

(Several years ago I called and cancelled auto renew, never ever opted in, they just did it without warning. For a while there you had to tick opt-in for auto renew on the membership form which I never did. All of a sudden it has become auto renew, no q’s asked. To me it’s shonky as. I yelled and screamed at them at the time to be honest. It’s how I operate when I know I’m getting screwed over and copping shonky service by any organisation. Got a $4k ’gesture of goodwill’ from Westpac doing this. I was 100% correct in a dispute, they were being campaigners and so I escalated it. It went my way. I like to buy my membership around February not October. I avoid auto pay for anything. Don’t trust any arseh*le organisation with my CC details. Don’t just cop it from anyone).
 
Had my 12 month digital membership auto-renewed after only signing up in June. Called in and refunded me straight away no questions asked. If anyone else feels uncomfortable with the situation give the club membership line a call.

Can you give me the opt-in link pls? I definitely didn't get this mail. 19th September I got an email from the club promoting Heritage Cheese, but no membership e-mail 😡

Can't believe this club can charge $659 for a membership, not send a renewal notice, invoice or welcome e-mail.

FYI - I made a quick phone call to membership team today.
my issues are all sorted. my refund on its way for my membership (downgraded it as well) and my digital north/kayo which had been auto renewed before expiry. systems allegedly not in sync. got told AFL working on this issue.
I didn't receive any 2024 emails either btw.
doubled checked last night…

I didn't blow up on call. just got it sorted. 👍👍

My first grandchild due in the next week or so. Can't wait to buy a Baby Joey membership the day she is born. NM for life!

I went and had a look at the Pies memberships (I feel dirty) and they details everything you get - far more expansive than ours. Also seem cheaper. Looks like we could learn from them.
 
The father is a Pie so the deal was girl is NM or boy is Cwood. They are having a girl but I don't trust him. She will have a Joey membership the day she is born!

How do you turn off auto-renewal? Feel like a nuffy but don’t want to deal with this again.
You cannot turn off Auto-renewal. You actually have to ring the club as I did in 2022. Earlier this year when I rang the membership department to renew and change my membership package to one that was better suited to my changing lifestyle I thought "great I can now renew it on a year by year basis according to my changing needs". I WAS WRONG. Even by dealing with the membership department operator directly, they or the membership system has automatically put me on auto-renewal again.

Let's face it, it's garbage to auto-renew memberships. They should not automatically assume that people are going to want to sign up to the same package year after year. Especially as the club offers better incentive packages for new members each year to what it offers to existing members. Further, people's individual needs and ability to support the club (by attendance at games) can change from year to year.

I have to admit that I was a bit surprised to magically see $219 disappear off my credit card last week. Upon checking in on my banking app, there it was - "Kangaroos Membership Melbourne". Lesson learned. Next year when my credit card expires and is replaced, I will not provide any details of my new card to the club during membership renewal. They can either bill me through an invoice where I will use BPay, or a Direct Money Transfer - That's it and they will be told that those are their only two options for payment from me. I am sure that I am not alone in believing that my membership renewal ought to be done when I choose and on the terms that I choose each year.

I think that it's a hell of a liberty that the club and indeed other clubs have been taking.

Nobody deserves to be treated this way when they are just doing their job.
Yes you are right, everybody deserves respect when dealing over the phone or face to face. I don't know the back story of why people would be individually ringing the club membership department directly except to perhaps complain about the auto-renewal.

We are living in times of financial restraint and many people have had to tighten their belts a lot this year, particularly families. I can understand people being upset if they were in a similar circumstance to me where they had previously asked to not auto-renew and suddenly they are getting auto-renew billed again. Perhaps many were wanting to review their memberships prior to renewal, but the auto system didn't allow that. If you're a family person paying out $500 for yourself (perhaps your partner) and a couple of kids, then $500 coming off your credit card without expecting it can be quite a hit.

When a person rings the membership department and asks not to be auto-renew billed then it should be that way indefinitely. If a person rings the membership department to change their package then the operator at the other end ought to to have the decency or sense to ask the member whether they wish for their package to auto-renew?
 
Just looking at renewing the young fella.
It's his second year so future roos (1-14) is $75 or for game access its $115.... Bit much for a two year old tbh.
Or a ga 11 game junior is $40. Why such a massive price difference between the two?
I'm confused. Send help!
