I would love Hannaford, he's my favourite player in this draft, but he would have to be gone by then.Shhhh, do not want my loophole closed! Shhhhh you.
I really like different thinking, surely this, over us selling 2 for gross unders.
Hannaford and Gerryn this year, 3 R1 for remaining holes next year to get Sharp +2. I like it. Gives those we have already a chance to grow and be exposed one way or another. Well done! I like it.
That trade was a disaster, but I think the covid year hurt us as more than the trade itself. You can always find mids. And I don't think we have to have top of the draft ones, we have enough of these, we need workhorses.Don't mind the thought but the last time we traded into the future it was a disaster and we'd miss out on some good players in the 1st round of this draft.
I'd prefer to round out our midfield with a bit more speed and class and better ball use inside 50 at 2 or trade with Saints for 7 and F1 before trading into next year.
But theoretically you could get a mid next year in the top 5, Ludo and Duursma with those three 1sts in 2025.
But Demons might also make finals and same with Bombres given we don't know what will happen next year, but they could also flame out. Bit of a risk and Powell trade is evidence of it not being a great move for me.
I would love Hannaford, he's my favourite player in this draft, but he would have to be gone by then.
Another option for trading down and into next year might be
2 > 7, F1 with St Kilda and then something like 7, F3, 62 > 28, 31, F1 with Essendon as a live trade.
I'd be just taking one of Smillie/Langford/Tauru/Armstrong/Shanahan at 7 vs trading into next year for a 3rd F1.That trade was a disaster, but I think the covid year hurt us as more than the trade itself. You can always find mids. And I don't think we have to have top of the draft ones, we have enough of these, we need workhorses.
But the starting with the St Kilda trade would be a good idea, then seeing if our man gets through. If so take him, if not trade down further with Essendon or Sydney.
I think we have the class covered with Sheezel and McKercher. It's the two-way running where we struggle, I think you can find guys for that role later on.I'd be just taking one of Smillie/Langford/Tauru/Armstrong/Shanahan at 7 vs trading into next year for a 3rd F1.
I think we lack a bit of class delivery and speed with TT gone and that mid would be versatile to rotate fwd/wing/hbf, where I"m not sure next years mids are quite as versatile, but it's early days with that draft class.

FOS, Draper, Lalor or Langford can run and tackle. Anyway we'll either finish off our midfield or split pick 2.I think we have the class covered with Sheezel and McKercher. It's the two-way running where we struggle, I think you can find guys for that role later on.

There's a plot now? Some of you have lost the plot.
Well if its doesn’t happen today, it can’t happen until draft nightWe made the rumour file (I know) on 3AW this morning. Rumour is that we will swap pick 2 with tiggers for 6 and 10 - deal today. Thats what was said.
Even though it's the best deal we could get (and unlikely we get it), call me crazy, I'd rather keep 2 and take FOS or Draper. We made the rumour file (I know) on 3AW this morning. Rumour is that we will swap pick 2 with tiggers for 6 and 10 - deal today. Thats what was said.
I thought trades of picks can happen all the way up until draft night?Well if its doesn’t happen today, it can’t happen until draft night
This thing about not shooting the messenger - very over-rated imo.We made the rumour file (I know) on 3AW this morning. Rumour is that we will swap pick 2 with tiggers for 6 and 10 - deal today. Thats what was said.
Pick swaps can happen on draft night but not between tomorrow and then.I thought trades of picks can happen all the way up until draft night?
Can’t see it happening hope it doesPick swaps can happen on draft night but not between tomorrow and then.
Yeah but I'd rather get Langford, Smile or tauru and then the best key forward on the board.Even though it's the best deal we could get (and unlikely we get it), call me crazy, I'd rather keep 2 and take FOS or Draper.
I can live with Tauru and Hannaford especially if we trade back to get Hannaford.Yeah but I'd rather get Langford, Smile or tauru and then the best key forward on the board.
And then we can trade the Saints and * F1st to Port for pick 50. Brilliant!I would love Hannaford, he's my favourite player in this draft, but he would have to be gone by then.

6+10 almost guarantees Tauru + Lindsay/Berry/Hannaford/Whitlock(s)/Armstrong/Trainor.Even though it's the best deal we could get (and unlikely we get it), call me crazy, I'd rather keep 2 and take FOS or Draper.
The point was really to look for ways to maximise the value of pick 2. Hopefully we can do it by splitting down this year, if we can't do this we could exploit the current undervaluing of future picks. We should keep any future firsts we can get our hands on, especially from clubs like *, Saints, Melbourne. And then we can trade the Saints and * F1st to Port for pick 50. Brilliant!
How so? Trying to maximise value via a couple of 18yos in an area of need versus, say, one 18yo in a less pressing area hardly seems like short term thinking (or job preservation for that matter)The point was really to look for ways to maximise the value of pick 2. My concern is that short term thinking (and job preservation) is going to lead to us chucking away good picks for little gain. That is, take a mid at pick 2, then trade our future first for a mid to late first rounder. Getting little of need this year whilst destroying next year's draft hand.
......most of them never had it!!Some of you have lost the plot.
I think you may have misinterpreted my argument. I'm arguing for keeping a strong draft hand for next year and addressing weaknesses in the list rather than spending future picks or wasting pick 2 on another high-end mid.How so?
