34 Junior Arch

He’s different to the other HBFs as he is a shutdown defender rather than a rebounder so I don’t think he is competing with them for a spot. He is more competing with LMac. Good overhead and brave as his surname suggests. Overtrained last pre-season and missed half the season with the resultant injuries. Hard to fault his enthusiasm but looks like this pre-season is being better managed. Don’t reckon he plays rd 1.

There's a very important role available for Archer when he is ready for it.

There has obviously been a lot of talk this offseason about Pink, Dawson, Comben, and Corr regarding who will play on the McKays and Curnows of the world, but I'm personally a lot more worried about the DeGoey, C. Cameron, and Greene types.

Even lesser players like Weightman have caused us a ton of trouble since Marley Williams was delisted. Outside of trialling various now delisted spuds in the role, we haven't had much of a plan for smalls outside of hoping Luke McDonald doesn't have one of his increasingly common bad days.

There's a lot of excitement about what Goater, McKercher, Bergman, and Fisher can provide to the backline with dash, rebound and skills, but if Archer can become that shutdown small defender for the next decade, that would be just as important for us.

😂 how much were they? $30? $1.50 of dimmies, bucks worth of cabbage?
I think they were $15 lol

I was thinking it was gonna be some sort of ‘deconstructed’ dimmy lol

Last week of training before their Xmas break and the first session at the Latrobe Sports Oval, home for the next 6 or so weeks.

A far cry from the heat and sun of the Gold Coast with constant drizzle and overcast cool conditions.

Today was predominately a skills work day.

Standouts - Comben in the match sims was, at times, Careyesque in the way he leaped and marked the ball in defence. Was a real factor in several plays BUT he seemed to pull up a little sore from one contest and, other than some goal kicking practice, did not take any fursther part. Seemed to be walking fine, was poining at his achilles area to one trainer but it could simply be that someone landed on him and they were exercising caution.

Biggest standout though would have to be McKercher. Now I don't want to get ahead of myself, and it's pre Xmas training only, BUT I am tipping him to have more impact off half back than Sheezel did last year. McKercher seems a lot more at home back there and instinctively moves better than Sheezel who was learning the role on the job. McKerchers run, penetrating kick and back. up running off half back offers something very different to what Sheezel brought to the role. If he can bring this workrate to the season this will free Harry to move Forward/Mid and allow him to work in the roles where he has shown most flair.

Other notables, Nyuon's leap and ground coversge is fabulous and may be a surprise packet.

Maley in his words was "putting on a f*cking clinic" during the goal kicking drills and was pretty pleased with himself (all in fun and showing what a character around the cub he will be).

Pink was looking solid, as was Kallan Dawson so we. have something to work with in defence even if Corr looks to miss some early rounds.
Wardlaw was making everything look effortless and had his dancing feet on.
Good read and I'm trying not to get ahead of myself. But it seems we do play well against ourselves especially the last few years. Not so well against other sides though.

But the squad is taking shape finally, and about ****ing time and bloody hell it's be a slow, stinking ride of rot.
Actually surprised the board hasn't gone totally nuts.

Do you think he’s not playing round 1 purely because, as you’ve said, he’s likely competing for a spot on the field with Lmac?

I’d like to try Dawson in the Lmac role - has a bit of toe and can intercept when required. Aren’t sold on him on the bigger units - his spoiling lacks conviction

The sort of wine that is about 3 days drive away

Usually an urgent work trip coupled with Crown Towers tends to do the trick.

Remember, emphasis on the word urgent to the wifey.

Yep. I reckon as Co-captain & unofficial captain of the backline LMac gets the first go, but he had want to make a good fist of it after his career worst year this year.
