Of course that’s how they have to be in public. Behind closed doors I’m sure they’re far more circumspect, patient and realistic about our chances.

I have absolutely zero doubt that they are pushing themselves behind closed doors to take big steps at all times.

That’s the mindset of an elite sportsman, not “we’ll just take our time and aim for good for a while before striving to do the best we can”.

What I like most about our group is that Sam, Moorey, Sic or any of our leaders would not let this sort of attitude enter their thoughts.
Just listen to Day talk about the hard conversations being had.

Hearing McCartney, Ratten, Burge and Mitchell all speak of how extremely driven the group is and that they refuse to be held down by conservative estimations of their ability has me excited at what they can do if they’re all pushing each other to be better, quickly.

As we damn well should have. I have it on good authority that the threepeat only served to paper over the cracks of what was clearly a deficient list well over due for the scrap heap.

I was just looking at the survey results and I don't think the "maybe" option makes sense, given the question. If the question was "will the hawks make finals", "yes", "no" and "maybe" make sense as options. However when the question is "can the hawks make finals", "maybe" means the same as "yes".

Will a can make finals? I will will a can to do so. Can I ? Maybe

The club internally back at the beginning of 08 didn’t think we had the list for a flag yet and were making decisions with the idea that 2010 onwards would be our window.

But that thought didn’t seep to the playing group and certainly didn’t stop us throwing everything we could to win the thing which we obviously did.

I think you can have two schools of thought at the same time. A broad strategic plan of attack for when you think your window will be based on all the internal metrics you are pushing for, and an elite winning mindset that knows that there is no ceiling and anything is possible.

Young, forward thinking and innovative head coach with a young, dynamic and exciting team. There's more than one parallel to draw here. The addition of Holmgren was like magic for them structurally, hopefully our overhauled forward line can do the same thing for us.
