From the interview with Anderson and luko it sounded like just opening round but who knows they may give him a bit extra time. It's a long season no need to rush him.

West is Best: David Swallow West is Best: David Swallow - Wide World of Sports 6PR

Doesn't sound overly confident in his place in the team. Could this be the beginning of the end for Dave swallow? To be switched to the backline only a few weeks ago where he has been tried before and didn't really thrive is worrying. Personally I don't mind him forward but dimma looking at speed and pressure around the likes of King, walter, luko, casboult it seems.

Ideally the younger players go past him this year due to their own improvement/performance, not his regression.

He's been a wonderful player/leader for the Suns, but his time is running out.

I actually thought Dave was pretty good forward. Knows where the goals are, surprised he hasn't ever been tried down there in a role similar to Holman.
I agree. I think he’s not just a better player than Holman, but a better forward when he was used there. Holman excels at pressure, but not the other stats of a forward, unfortunately.

Seemed like that’s where he was moving to by end of last season, but new coach must see differently.

Maybe Tsitas is taking that spot instead…

Dave nearly won us the Carlton game last year (and ultimately probably lost it with his goal kicking) looking like a little Plugger out there. Still think that defensive forward role is perfect for him and us as a bigger bodied small.

Could he carve a role out as sub this year? Able to play any end of the ground or come on and give a boost as a hard hitter in the middle against tired bodies in the 4th.

DAMIEN Hardwick says there's a match-winner on Gold Coast's list that can emulate Dustin Martin, Jordan De Goey and Toby Greene.

Whether Bailey Humphrey rises to that level or not is up to him, the Suns coach says.

I said it a bit last year but Dave Swallow, as much as we love him, shouldn't really be a best 22 player for us anymore.

Up forward - who do you replace? Holman is there for his pressure. You could replace him with a lot of guys who would kick more goals but its specifically his tackling, speed and pressure he's in the team for. similarly he's not pushing Ainsworth or Humphrey out of the team. He's never been particularly quick and his pressure tends to come more in the contest than chasing running defenders.

He played fulltime midfield last year and averaged 16 touches and 4 tackles. He's been an absolute warrior for us, but at the end of the day unless some miraculous treatment has become available to fix his knees, he shouldn't be playing a lot of AFL football this year. Rowell plays the only role he really has left in the team, and he plays it a lot better.

Melbourne learned that with Nathan Jones. He was an absolute warrior for that football club during their worst times but at some point, you cant keep playing them for sentimentality. That's not how you win.

Incorrect. Swallow split midfield (45% CBA) with forward role. Rowell played fulltime midfield (82% CBA).
True. Holman was a full time forward, Swallow was not.

For forward craft comparison:

Swallow had 4.3 score involvements and 0.6 goals, compared to Holman’s 3.9 and 0.7. They both have 0.6 marks inside forward 50. And both average 4.4 tackles a game, but Swallow has less pressure acts.

So I think they are pretty comparable. And if I had to personally (and with my own bias in mind) choose one, it would be Swallow.

It looks like Dimma will go with pressure.
