Yeah, that was my main takeaway, his field kicking is average at best. Seemed to be a decent set shot weirdly though.

I agree with everything you guys said about tholstrup. Can hope he's one of those blokes who just takes like a duck to water to AFL an just becomes good.

You hope maybe his confidence drags him along cause he doesn't seem shy at all.

Might be able to do the Sparrow job but alot better.

Reckon he needed to get the arse early last season. His skills aren't much and he stopped putting his body on the line. Might saved by Hunter maybe getting back to the s**t that got him traded but I'd be happy going with Windsor and whoever. Would go with Brayshaw over Langdon among others.

Brayshaw simply must play wing or defence, he is quality in both positions imo. If we play him in the guts we are kidding ourselves.

Only thing I’ll say in May’s defence is he looked very old last year then finished the year strongly and was our best player over the two finals by a mile imo
Wouldn't be surprised if May doesn't give a **** about pre season games seems the type

Yeah, by no means am I a hater. I like his cocky personality, need more players like that. Also, as Stedy mentioned, he tested amazing in the agility test in the combine, every chance im missing something obvious in the games I watched coz I didnt pick up on that sort of agility at all.

With his frame and confidence he could be best 22 this year, just don't know if see a high ceiling

Kynan Brown – Well, what do we have here? Kicked a couple of goals, was busy around the packs and had a couple of really good front-and-centre gathers to keep the footy moving. The Dees have Pickett, but when he moves into the guts, that second smaller forward role is one that has let them down. They’ve had Charlie Spargo, or Kade Chandler… but they really haven’t done it for me. Thumbs up.

Brown kind of did it for me in this game.

Caleb Windsor – A mixed bag from him. Has an elite tank, and was still running the wings deep into the fourth quarter, which was great, but some of his disposals were… well, they were ****ty. I think that’ll be ironed out as he becomes more accustomed to the speed of the game, but he threw his body in, won the ball, and just let himself down with disposal, at times. It can be fixed, but you cannot teach someone to win the footy the way he was winning it. Thumbs up from me.

And on Kozzie -
Geez, he looked dangerous in this one. Kysaiah… not Marlion, although Marlion had a few good moments, as well.
Whether forward or in the middle, Kysaiah looked dangerous every time he was near the footy. Whether it was his tackling pressure early in the game, his efforts to win back-to-back-to-back clearances in the third quarter, or leaping into the stratosphere to almost drag in the preseason mark of the year, Pickett gave the 3-4K at Casey Fields plenty to ooh and ahh about.
Did the Dees get the mix right with him running through the midfield?

It felt about right. He was effective while in there and pushed forward hard without hitting the scoreboard. I reckon a 50/50 split is the ideal for him. He adds so much irrespective of where he plays… I reckon Simon Goodwin wishes he had a couple of him.

And JvR - Really liked the early attack on the footy from Jacob Van Rooyen. He was hard at it and both presented on the lead and crashed packs several times in the first half. Looked like he ran out of puff a little in the second half, but seems to be the best marking target the Dees have inside fifty at the moment, and attacks the ball like he knows it.

May V Balta - And I touched on the work of Noah Balta above, but I need to give credit to Steven May for the way he worked back into the game after the main break. His tussle with Balta was a brilliant watch, with both guys matching up very well throughout the contest. May took the third quarter points after Balta got the first two. Balta hit the bench to start the fourth and didn’t return – a well earned rest.

And finally...
As for the Dees, there is enough to work with that Simon Goodwin won’t be pressing the panic button just yet. He’s got Clayton Oliver to come back in, and he started the fifth period by grabbing two touches, including a clearance in the first 40 seconds. They’ll be fine.

I hope we don't pigeon hole Brown as a small forward coz I think he's much more than that, need to give him some time in the midfield.

I wouldn’t be patting myself on the back over 2-3 out of 11, but happy to agree to disagree.

There's a heap of kids in that group who have either shown potential and/or have time to make it.

However, if you look at the overall stats of draft success, 3 successes out of 11 picks isn't actually that bad.

What's the over/unders line for the amount of times May yells at and belittles Tomlinson in round zero?
May fumbled an easy mark from a Tomlinson pass at one point on Sunday and Tomlinson went over and pat him on the back - I literally thought to myself that he should have given him a verbal barrage because that’s exactly what May would have done if it was the other way around!

Too small, needs to bulk up for mid time imo. Can't think of many tiny bodies like Brown who are good in the midfield. He showed there is plenty to work with but needs a couple of big summers. Hope he makes it, loved his pa.

I dont mean he should play in there full time in season one, just that he should get the occasional run thru there, good decision maker in traffic, ultra competitive too which makes up a bit for his lack of size

JVR needs to stop jumping too early. not sure why he does it. At one stage against Richmond he jumped and landed before his opponent had even marked the ball.

Also Pickrtt, stop going for high marks. He never marks them.

Didn't stop Errol Gulden and Zak Butters playing significant midfield time in their debut years.

Billings did look good, although a super open hit out with not a heap of pressure is his bread and butter. Was still nice seeing someone weight passes nicely over 30 meters.

His body will probably fail him again as i'm not sure he's up to a full year of AFL football but at the moment it looks like a tick

Brown is 181cm and reasonably developed physically, wouldn’t call him tiny.
