It will certainly be interesting to see if Phillips will make the round 1 team.
All indicators from pre season match sims/games, is that he not in the best 22.
I think Lazzaro’s flexibility & form will see him picked ahead of Phillips, unless Will has a big game against St.Kilda next week.

I would expect to see the CBA percentages to look roughly like this for round 1:
LDU 80%
Wardlaw 80%
Powell 70%
Simpkin 30%
Sheezel 20%
Lazzaro 20%

Simpkin & Lazzaro to rotate off HF & Sheezel off half back

For the mids there are always injuries and if not that added depth allows us to manage players better.
Phillips will play plenty.

It’s certainly an interesting watch. Wifi clearly bringing a point of difference with the clearance numbers in the last hit out.

The Saints game might tell us how they see it for round 1.

Agreed
Wilphil is ahead for mine
Was so clean on Wednesday, will be our Lachie neale

I don’t mind laz as a sub

Will better learn to spread then, he had fresh legs but didn't seem to move. Powell spread more and played twice as much and he is not exactly an athletic machine.

My own personal opinion of course, but I think there's a stark gap between Phillips and Lazzaro, and Phillips is in front.

Lazzaro has Phillips for endurance and speed, but Phillips game sense and disposal is a rung above Lazzaro's for me.

Phillips is a guy I want kicking into our forward 50 as often as possible because he always puts our forwards into advantageous positions.

I like Phillips too & hope he is playing round one. I’m just pointing out Phillips has been in the 2’s team all pre season & only played second half against Pies.
I think Powell has his spot in the middle & Lazzaro offers more flexibility & his form is pretty good.
Not the end of the world for Phillips if he doesn’t play round 1, he will play a lot of games for us this season, in what we are all hoping is a break out season.

Wouldn’t disagree but the value of Lazz is that he is different to Philips and plays such a complimentary role so Fir me they are both important.

Struggle to see Phillips, Powell and Lazz all in the same 22. Maybe 23 at a stretch. None of them are good enough consistently enough to this point to justify causing a bulldogs esque logjam in the middle imo, though I spose TT gone opens up room there.

Will be interested to see what happens. You can easily imagine 4/5 of the bench lads being mids

Play the players most suited to Northball. Only changes I’d like to the below are Goater and Bergman instead of Lmac and Corr. Hopefully by years end they will be locks.

Fisher Pink McDonald

McKercher Dawson Sheezel

Stephens Powell Scott

Simkin Zurhaar Curtis

Stephenson Larkey Harvey

Xerri LDU Wardlaw

Corr Lazzaro CCJ Phillips

Sub Shiels

Emerg

Goater

Bergman

Ford

Tucker

Greenwood

That backline is absolutely tiny and GWS might run with Hogan, Cadman and Riccardi.

We need Goaters size as a third tall, he would be capable of manning Cadman. McDonald isn’t.

Got Corr on the Pine, Again happy for Goater to take his place. Until Logue is fit we’ll be undermanned in defence at times. Happy with that as long as the trade off is rebounding at speed from D50.

When you consider ther entire game plan is a run and gun, Handball heavy - run and carry with 2 fwd/ 2 back rotating through wings and the middle - it’s much easier to imagine.

All three with uninterrupted offseason probably for the first time is a huge boost as well. All 3 are a bit different too which the coaches have talked up over summer as provided that right mix through the middle.

TT out certainly helps create the space too as you mention.

It should be fun to what

The comparisons are simply ridiculous. As the stats above show, and they are a good illustration of how things generally go, Will and LDU are miles ahead of the rest for clearances and we will get mauled in the middle without one of them in there.
If we are talking second possession and F50 entry, Sheez, Kerch, Powell and Will are the guys you want

Just noticed the bookies have us $3.75 for this clash. I've dead-set loaded up to my gills on that. It's virtually money in the bank. I've already told Mrs. Cloke, first thing we're doing after we win, is buying a brand new Aldi, & ripping up the carpet up at home & getting polish floor boards.

I think pink might be given a game for the battle of uncle tobys. I know they wouldn't be directly matched up unless we run out of options and Greene steals the show in the first half, but it may happen
Corr and comben should be our key defenders for round 1

For me it’s dawson v biggie for third tall

I think biggie is well suited to north ball with his speed

Lmac will get greene again

B: McDonald Corr Nyuon/Dawson
HB: Sheezel Comben Fisher
Kerch off the bench rotating

I think Chom needs to demonstrate he can do the new role against real opposition before he’s a lock in the seniors.

It wouldn’t be the worst thing if he starts in the twos, builds some continuity and confidence.

Dawson and Pink were looking sound against the pies, albeit without Mihoceck.

Chom is a lock for mine

Could have kept him forward but there’s a CHB role for him

Looked good in the intra if he plays well v saints there should be no question him and Corr start as our keys

The other guys are state league backups

Most clearances per CBA, slightly ahead of LDU.

Hard to see Comben playing rd 1 on what's been presented.

Dawson's a lock. Pink possibly along with Nyuon. They may both play.

He’s had a good off season, if he plays against the Saints and gets through, he’ll play.

If he doesn’t get up against the Saints, you’d think he would miss round 1.

Maybe, but I'm going on what's been presented so far over preseason, not personal preference.

He hasn't played unrestricted minutes in a practice match yet. I'd think he'd need to get at least a couple of full games under his belt.
