Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

David King is just a sniper now & the afl industry are starting to get sick of his so called expert analysis. The more these recent players & coaches come into the media, the more he will get called out for the piece of shit he is.

People like him & Cornes have no concern for the players & coaches welfare & are happy to target individuals to keep themselves relevant in the industry.

They need to go back into the club environment to remind them of the human element of football, but I doubt any club would let them in.

It's insane the impact Young has had on our team in the middle. It really is all about the contest and from the game he got Young in there we've been back to 2022 form. When you add Fyfe being back, Brayshaw looking closer to 2022, Jackson another year older and Serong ready to be an absolute weapon and I'm in a very positive mood.

GWS and Port's speed and power are the only midfields that I'm really weary of at this stage and if we win or halve at the contest in the middle, we'll be in every game

Welcome to the optimism side my friend. It is sunnier here. You are one step away from declaring the decade of dominance has begun.

Dave Mundy quotes back in 2019 having a swipe at Cornes.

It was some of Dave's best work off the field

“Kane is making a lot of headlines at the moment and he loved chatting when he was playing,” Mundy said.

“That hasn’t changed. I will listen to people and comments that I really value. I guess unfortunately for Kane with his nature, he is not one of them.”

Note how Cornes has softened on Lyon now that they were mates on Footy Classified and won't criticise St Kilda.
He went into bat for Hinkley after yet another finals failure because Ken saved his career at Port.

So he picks out soft targets like JHF (until he moved to Port of course), freo this week and especially Beveridge because he isn't buddy buddy with the media.

Kane Cornes is a known F-wit. The whole Cornes family are. Graham, Chad, Kane and Graham's 3rd wife Nicole.

I haven’t paid attention to the contract stuff & don’t watch any football media but I listened to the interview snippets from footy classified and JL rightly points out that all the multi year contract deals don’t mean anything, it’s the payout part that matters. He used the example of Ratten who was extended for 3 years and was sacked shortly after & got a 6 month payout which is the standard.
1,2,3 years, it doesn’t mean shit as you can be sacked anytime & you get 6 months wages.
I didn’t catch what JL negotiated but it seems he’s done better than that & feels more financially secure than ever.
That’s the point.

This is the key point for me. Thought JL explained it well on the Tim Gossage Cumming show the other day.
Also puts beyond doubt that at the 6month sunset clause on AFL coaches is a thing for freo.
There was a bit of conjecture floating about that Freo and west coast were not subject to that clause like other AFL teams.

Who is responsible for the young move?

Longmuir or Corey? I thought it was Corey who pushed for it.

Yes Corey was advocating for it, but Jlo is the senior coach. We can’t put the blame on Jlo for things that we think are crap and we have no idea who on the match committee advocated for it and then say what an inspired move by an assistant coach to get Young into the midfield. The buck stops with Jlo for the good and the bad.

Definitely.

Distinctly remember arguing with some on here that Young in the middle and Chapman on the wing might be a thing in the future (they thought the other way around).
Can't remember the specifics but yeah both Young and Chapman were drafted with the thoughts of pushing them into the midfield in the future.

Advocating for a graduation/promotion to the midfield is a perennial for any player that shows something though.

Also provides good cherry picking fodder for pundits spruiking their bonafides (while somehow overlooking the less successful calls). ;)
