Vic State Budget with a bit of a bummer for the Arden St neighbourhood:
Wait, so it was on the plans to have these above Arden, but they did not build the necessary protections, and instead will be moved elsewhere where they just so happened to build the protections?

The cover story of 'electromagnetic interference' is pretty hard to believe when the same rail line ALSO goes under the existing hospitals at Parkville.

Feels like a convenient excuse to save big money.

Is saving the community big money a bad thing?

I can think of at least two things worse: (1) paying over $1 billion of Victorian taxpayers' money to NOT have an east-west link road; and (2) paying over $500 million of Victorian taxpayers' money to NOT have the Commonwealth Games.

Vic State Budget with a bit of a bummer for the Arden St neighbourhood:

Likely to be replaced by apartment buildings and housing which means less FIFO types coming into Arden for work then buggering off to wherever else they live. Permanent residents will need local facilities to accommodate their needs and wants.

May assist us in our search for additional government funds for facility expansion and development.

Correct.
With no hospital plans we can make ourselves the cornerstone of the area now and utilise whatever funds left over are allocated towards us.

Christ are people still sooking about that

For largely North related reasons I’m hoping that Ben Carroll has a long and successful political career.

Postponement of the Airport Rail train line will hurt his electorate, but Liberals remain pretty unpopular out there.

Only about 100 weird nerds on Twitter care enough about the airport train to actually change their vote over it.

Delaying the free/upgraded kinders and schools risks changing way more votes.

But next election will be a referendum on SRL which will only go one way once the metro stations open and because the Vic Libs have only two policies - don't build SRL and let us look inside your child's underpants.

neither of which are very popular with the wider electorate lol.

You're right, such trivial amounts should be forgotten about.

At the same time whinging about a cost saving decision.

They weren't forgotten about - another election was fought on the very issue and the electorate spoke.

So at this stage yes, it is just sooking.

He's a heartbeat away from turning Arden Street into the 25k boutique stadium we all dream of.

The Free Kinder delays will largely only affect rural/regional places, as the main barriers to the rollout have been staffing (and housing!) in those areas. Ben Carroll should largely be unaffected by that.

Agreed on a seat by seat basis, but next time there's a change of govt in Victoria it'll be one of those huge "time for a change" elections where there'll be a landslide swing.

Doubt that's happening anytime soon though, largely due to the absolute incompetence of the opposition.

Greens a decent chance to be formal opposition after 2026 imo

The Commonwealth Games f-up followed that election. The $billion toll road f-up was bad enough, but yes, people got over it because there was no plausible opposition to elect. I would probably stop raising it if it hadn't been followed by the utterly unacceptable Commonwealth Games f-up.

It really grates on me that these monumental f-ups are glossed over because they were done by the "good guys". I mean, Labor are the good guys here because they're not right-wing capitalist campaigners who don't care about the average citizen, no? Everyone knows capitalism is evil and so the parties with a socialist bent are the good guys because they make sure there is a fairer distribution of wealth, no?

The distribution of over $1 billion of the average citizens' money to a wealthy multinational conglomerate, followed a few years later by distribution of another $half a billion of the average citizens' money to a different wealthy multinational conglomerate is a re-distribution to the wealthy from the non-wealthy on a scale that approaches Donald Trump's tax cuts.

So, call it sooking if you like, but these absolutely braindead politically motivated decisions have cost us and continue to cost us more than the average right-wing government in Australia costs its average citizens over a term of government. Indeed, I suspect it's not even close.

For perspective, here's how massive a billion dollars is. And Labor under Andrews has lost 1.5x that with nothing to show for it.

The **** up with the Commonwealth Games wasn't cancelling them, it was agreeing to do them in the first place. Cancelling them was the smart thing to do.

And wait til you hear about AUKUS!

LOL, you have made the point without even acknowledging it. Of course the f-up was agreeing to do them in the first place. And yet we have fanbois applaud them for doing the "smart thing" and paying half a billion dollars to reverse their f-up.

I understand and agree with the argument that holding the Games would have been a disaster and might have caused even higher losses. But Victoria is the only state in Australia that paid half a billion dollars to avoid that debacle. The other states collectively paid about $0 to avoid it. Do you not realise how unacceptably shit that is?

LuvtheKangas > Warlords. :stern look

Warlords has no concept of how financial incompetence by Governments eventually leads to all of us suffering more. Be it directly or indirectly. Increased Taxes to pay back the debt. Taxes that add to costs. To Inflation. Plus as a result, less money spent on things that matter because the interest from the debt payable becomes increasingly difficult to manage. Economics aint his strong suit. He will never get why Government Debt is bad. :stern look

This doesn't make sense.

Again man, wait until you hear about the Brisbane Olympics.
