..the players can only do so much; like, actually playing the game?
He does play the game, he's put on hf flank, what do you want him to do? I found it funny that you want to scapegoat someone for not doing enough when he hasn't been put into the right roles. Put him onball, he will be the closest thomas replacement we have. He's 25 at his prime, matured body, mercurial. That's everything you need from a midfielder.

Watching him live you actually see the many unrewarded leads he makes a game. I've seen him be the only bloke leading into space and instead we torch him for some long bomb to nothing. He will improve when the boys are able to confidently and decisively move the ball forward.
I've noticed the same. He often gets into a good position and in space but half the time the kick into the forward line goes over his head or hits his opponent on the chest (on the occasions it doesn't go over Larkey's head or hits his opponent on the chest).

He can be frustrating though, especially when he tackles - he attempts to grasp and grapple (which is specifically part of the training program at North) when someone like George will crash and smash when he tackles. Stephenson is a lightweight and possiblity lacks the confidence to take on a stronger opponent but it would be great to see him try to use momentum to beat an opponent in a tackle.

I also want to see him and the other forwards scoring goals from almost any angle when kicking from inside 45m and better than 50/50 from the 50.

Comrade, first up I’m not scapegoating anyone - Stephenson may well have a role as a finisher. But that doesn’t make him a midfielder - Noble tried it and it didn’t work for the reason most on here are pointing out - he’s not a contested ball winner. Full stop.

Imagine Stephenson on the weekend with one eye on Maynard for the entire game. He won't be game to go near the ball.(Steevo that is)

These guys are professionals, they will have to in order to survive.

That's like i put you on an island of savage with a gun and you are a pacifist...if you wanna survive then do something.

So, you're saying for Stevo to survive in the AFL system, he needs to start tackling effectively (despite it apparently being against his nature)?

I think we all agree with that.

So who are you going to take out of the midfield rotations to accommodate for Stephenson?

Could you please explain what a "savage " looks like. is it the pigmentation of their skin that is of concern.
Just curious is all.
