The one thing that does make sense when targeting Brayshaw is if the club thinks (as we all do) that we dont have any great leaders on the horizon. Brayshaw gets respect as soon as he walks thru the door, plays and trains the right way, can talk to the media. From an intangibles and culture setter perspective he makes a lot of sense.
Nah the club knows we have Tom Sparrow waiting in the wings.

He's the quintessential private schoolboy that the Dees know and love recruiting. The connection to Gus would be a nice touch. Just don't want to give up our draft hand and a lions share of salary cap for the bloke.

Hearing the speakers last night talking about our younger players and future leaders, Tom Sparrow wasn't mentioned once. Which i found interesting. Tholstrup and JVR talked up big time. I remember JT talking up Tholstrup's leadership and character pre draft. Already showing those qualities after a few games. Will become a popular figure i reckon. But JVR was the one getting pumped up the most. Could be a bit of Jono Brown about him. Doesn't say much, but let's his actions do the talking. He's the leader of that young group by the sound of it.

Id rather we targeted some classier outside/goal kicking mids with our picks and spent the cap elsewhere, just giving a reason that you could justify going after him that a lot of people might overlook.

Humphrey is still one we have our eye on. Signed a contract last year with GC, but he's still heavily on our radar. Not sure on his mid ability, but he has that "potential". Club still has a massive hard on for him supposedly.

He's hardly getting a look-in with the Suns' midfield. You wonder if he'll stay patient ... if not you'd hope we're still balls deep with our interest.

They are going to be consistently topping up the list with academy talent as well. So they'll be looking to offload players next few years to make way.

I'm fine with Brayshaw. I'm not fine with Brayshaw in place of Rivers.

If it moves out a Viney/Oliver/Sparrow, I'm not against it.

Like 80% of the AFL is made up of private school kids tbf.

I was very surprised he actually re-signed for that amount of years.

I know him and his family are extremely close and there was certainly talks of strong go home factor about him pre and after the draft.

If we replaced Oliver with Brayshaw id be wrapped, thats the only way I could justify getting him in and paying what we'd have to to get him.

Agreed.

Oliver and a first out, Brayshaw in?

Brilliant.

Brayshaw in for more than our first and we keep Oliver?

Hell no.

I was trying to be realistic as to what we might be lucky to actually pull off in the next 18 months.

Ideally we get a KPF, small forward and 2 x hard running mids with good foot skills.. but I can’t see that happening in 1 or 2 drafts unless we finish right down the bottom and are able to trade out Clarry for a solid pick.

I think the specialist tall-forward would be wasted in today's footy. None of them are doing well across the competition.
they all struggle playing deep being double & triple minded.

The tall forwards who are doing well are the mobile ones, like Ju-H, Amartey, cCurnow when he plays high forward,
j Hogan... it seems to me they trouble the defenders with they constant moving.

It's hard to hit a moving target, and mostly for defenders in a group, hard to corell a moving tall.

This week gone, I think our trident of rucks worked Draper, and the Bummers midfield over well. The extra mobility thru the middle part of the ground troubled Scotts bummers.

And helped our pressure over them.

Freo already have three first round picks this year. They will fight tooth and nail to bring guns in, not lose one in his prime.

tooth and nail, you say.?

Maybe they will bight and scratch to get Oli, if we get-after Andrew Brayshaw.

IMO we need an inside-mid who runs & carries the footy thru the wide part of the ground, and hits targets inside F50. instead of bombing it high and long to anywhere.

If that's the case, might want to look somewhere other than Brayshaw.

Now there's flaws in this stat, but worth noting that Oliver is going at 56.3% this year (56.2% for his career), despite that being his biggest flaw since coming into the league.

Brayshaw's a great player. But he's not a good kick.

Interesting. I always thought i heard of him being class... also the talk of that time about both Butters and Brayshaw.

Butters apparently does hit targets with lowered eyes. But cannot kick over a jam tin.??? we need someone who can chew gum, finish a rubic's cube, and spit a fly off the wall, all while tying his shoelaces.

Maybe we better go to the draft with some early picks. and get the best.

# I'd like to keep Petty... he looks to have reinvigorated his passion with the red & blue.
He's playing fully committed. And having big influence.

You need to get on to the social media and see the nuffies. I reckon 99% would melt over the idea over trading Oliver. Would be a very hard sell to the members imo.
Taking advice from the same nuffies who said to keep him last year or they wouldnt be back, has worked out great so far. His contract is even worse than I thought it was btw. 10m over 6 years, Jesus Christ
