Comben impacts the game forward.

5 touches and 0.0 on the scoreboard.

None of Larkey's 3 goals today came from Comben taking away a defender/opening up space either.

You know what I like about playing in Hobart? Absolutely ****ing nothing. If we sign another stupid deal whilst moving towards being a decent team I will lose it.

First and foremost. We were shit.
Umpiring continues to be awful.
Our forward is probably the most dysfunctional in the league, noone knows what to do with the ball coming in.
LDUs first 3 1/4s looked great on paper, but his kicking i50 makes me throw up in my mouth.
Somethings up with Wardlaw. He's either out of gas, or carrying something - end of the game he had 3 easily reachable contests and couldn't make any of them.
I don't normally buy into the whipping boy bashing, but Stephenson has completely lost me.
We're incredibly lucky to have Sheez. Need 10 of him.
Probably handed Dempsey the R/S with unaccountable play.
Talls need to learn when to go up and when to put on a block. Can't have Teakle, Xerri and Comben go up for the same ball.

LMac laughing with oppo players after the game again.

Legitimate question, who do we email at the club to ask them when the club is going to grow some balls and send the AFL a please explain re: differential umpiring?
Stevenson was ok. Was pretty good with intercept groundballs inside d50. Hit most of his targets - except a shanked howler. Missed tackle on dangerfield called out by king. But, 26 touches, 7 rebound 50s is a pretty solid game after being in 2s for 2 months. We need to persist with him. Best game for a while.
Phillips was also ok. Not all
Of them can get 30 each week and he was pretty hard at it.
Hanson jnr needs to play 2s nect week.

We are over-reliant on Sheezel to actually do something with the ball going forwards combined with the rest of the team not doing enough to get it into his hands, ie a bit like Collingwood does with Daicos.

We have too many potatoes kicking the ball inside 50 and it is really more kicks in hope than good quality passes.

The taking it slow, kicking it up the line to a contests... doesn't get us anywhere. We have looked like an AFL team when we have moved the ball quickly and used the corridor.

I think we need to have a look at NcKercher in the middle if he can get back during what is left of this season, less so for his benefit but more to get a better understanding of what our preferred structure is in the middle and half-forward and how that is going to influence who we draft and other list management issues.

We won the hitouts 58 vs 35
won clearances 38 vs 36
won contested ball 157 vs 146

but lost inside 50s 49 vs 58 and 3/4 of our inside 50s were garbage.

We are badly missing the class of Thomas' ball use.

Sheezel 36 disposals, Powell 33, LDU 31. Sheezel the only one that had any hurt factor. These aren't hacks with the ball, but the system they play, the decision making and execution is the difference between winning and losing.

The sooner we get back , Colby, Fisher and Ford the better...3 terrible momentum killers were 2 goals by Stengle with no one on the goal line when Corr was the loose backman and Paul Curtis's 50 meter penalty....

Honestly, the amount of junk time goals we give up. Must be the most in the league?!
Those goals just before three quarter time completely ruined the momentum we’d been building. Turned 16 points difference into 28 within the space of less than twenty seconds.
So frustrating.

That was largely down to shithouse umpiring.

The LDU holding the ball was farcical when you consider what they didn’t pay.

Positives:
  • We look more dangerous fwd with Comben and Duursma there.
  • Sheezel, incredible match, makes the right decision every time, just reads the ball so well, hird like.
  • Archer and Logue have been solid since being in the team. Our defence was pretty good considering i50 count.
  • Mids were mostly good, including Xerri.

Negatives
  • Sleevo back didn’t work, running out of options now.
  • Couple brain fades in the backline cost us big time, lost all momentum after that first geelong goal.
  • Curtis needs to be more accountable and stop giving away stupid frees.
  • LDU needs to learn how to hit a target.
  • Our entries today were the reason we lost the game. Just not AFL standard.
  • Our handball game looks great when it works but we often go 1 too many, keep it simple, keep going forward, that’s it.

He was solid. Colby and Fisher made the same mistakes too. In fact a lot of running HB make similar errors. He just isn't a defender.
Powell seemed decent enough in the back half, so worth a thought when Fisher and Kerch come back.

Only other positive was Duursma looks to have filled out and is class.

Well keeping Geelong to 4 goals a quarter is ok. Backline had a couple of crazy moments but besides that we did ok.
I think Geelong are a well drilled experienced outfit
Having Logue back makes a huge difference. Archer seems like he'll make it, which has me pleasantly surprised.

The game had me feeling constipated, as we wanted to move the ball and did well connecting from the backline into the midfield, but time after time when it came to the final push we just farted.

I was a little surprised that we went with Teakle, Comben and larkey, love all three of them, but I felt we'd be too tall for the conditions. ie playing outside.

So I think we all talked ourselves into thinking we could win, we're not ready for that against an aged middling team.

But it really isn't about today.

The major building blocks are there

FB Logue
CHB - Corr, and the 2 Dawsons
CHF Comben
FF Larkey
R Xerri

Midfield

LDU
Sheezel
Wardlaw
Simpkin
Powell
