Two great stories capped off tonight with All Australian selection
Many people considered McGovern to be past his prime and unable to stay on the park consistently after playing just 46 of a possible 85 games from 2020-23. Came back to preseason in great shape and returned to his absolute best. Missed 4 games - 3 after getting a rib injury and punctured lung against Melbourne which required him to drive home as he wasn’t cleared to fly. Then missed the last game due to a thumb injury
His selection was thoroughly deserved
Waterman is an even better story. Spent 7 years in our list fighting for a spot as a 3rd tall/high half forward/backup ruck even - unable to play his preferred position as a KPF stuck behind the likes of Kennedy, Darling and Allen. Then last year he was struck down by a stomach illness that threatened to end his career. Lost 10+ kilos as a result but worked his arse off and presented back at the start of preseason in the best shape of his career. An injury to Oscar Allen
finally gave Waterman the opportunity to play as a leading forward which he literally grabbed with both hands - 53 goals later and he’s an AA forward
Finished 5th in the Coleman but only Hogan averaged more goals per game so his selection whilst a surprise, was deserved
Great story that should be a source of inspiration for his teammates
