Early previous but **** it why not? We’re in the granny again!

Oscar obviously out, you’d assume Fort straight in.

Assume Charlie didn’t get a knock in that late free kick where Cal goaled?

Also saw Nathan Barley mention an incident with Hipwood early. Is he likely to miss? Would he a huge out too.
Haven't seen much VFL of late so hard for me to comment on Fort's form.

BUT if we wanted to take our whole "dancing on thin ice" mantra all the way to the selection table, we'd go for Henry Smith on Saturday.

😈

I seem to remember a game vs Grundy (Collingwood) in 2021 without Oscar; where we ended up breaking even in centre clearances by basically not contesting the ruck at all and just reading Grundy’s taps extremely well
Yep, Round 3 v Collingwood in 2021, when it was Grundy v Fullarton. Hit outs were 63 to 4 🤯

Flying down earlier on Friday this year. For people who were already there last year was the open training before or after the parade on the Friday? Wouldn’t mind going if we can make it.
Last year the captain's run was at 9am with the parade immediately after. This year the parade is first with the captain's run at 1:30 I think. Much better. Train when you play.

I think I read last night that they'll fly down a day earlier this year and the training will be on the Thursday
Yes they'll have proper training on Thursday at an as yet undisclosed location. But captain's run on the MCG will be on Friday arvo.

School holidays helped the numbers.
Great for the kids.
Training would have been pretty low intensity i would think.
We went out and yes it was very low intensity session, ran a couple of very slow laps and then some ball skills work and some set shots. A few were in what looked like a rehab group, from memory it was Hipwood, Payne, Neale, Answerth on light duties.

Lachie walked right past us at one stage in bare feet after what I assume was an ice bath session, ankle strapped and he was limping to keep his heel off the ground, ankle also looked a tad swollen.

I'll have more full thoughts on the matchup sometime this week (doubt I'm going to be super productive at work, lol), but I'm feeling a lot more confident than heading in to the last two finals, even though I think the Swans are the best team this year.

Midfield battle and defending ball movement are the two key things for me. If we force them to kick it long and go wide, then Harris eats it up and we get them on turnover. If their smalls aren't getting quick transition footy, and their mids aren't able to run forward in waves, then we'll have a great shot at restricting them.

Like us they had to fight back against GWS and that was a great comeback. I don't think Port Adelaide provided much fight at all, and even that one was barely more than a two goal game on expected score:

That also doesn't take into account the simply awful and unimaginative way Port moved the ball once forward of centre, to not even be able to generate shots at all on many occasions.

If we play the same way on Saturday we will deserve to lose and quite frankly I would hope we do.

🤮🥱

Max Gawn on radio said Fort is very solid ruckman, played on him a couple years ago in a final. Reading between the lines a little bit I don't think he rates Grundy that highly. Also mentioned Smith will be a good player for us in the future.
Fort thrashed Gawn in the second half

Sorry to intrude friends but this really pisses me off.

You guys and Fagan have to go public and make as big a fuss about this as possible.

Absolutely unacceptable and small minded by the AFL.
Agreed. Real cart before the horse areas.

And that's before we get to the fact we should have an Australian act performing on Grand Final day, rather than jetsetting in some foreigner who wouldn't even be able to draw a football (and I actually don't mind some of Katy Perry's stuff).

Ultimately tho I guess Fagan and co are all about minimising distractions etc this week, of which this would be one if we did make a song and dance out of it.

I noticed multiple players did that during the game... Spoiling towards goal and inevitably we were wrong sided. I'm not sure if it was nerves or brain fades but we were rarely set up that way... Oscar did it a few times as well.

I guess it was because a lot of the time we were sucked up the ground accompanying their high forwards. Then when the ball got over the back we had no choice but to spoil towards goal while charging back with the flight of the ball.

I think as a general rule Sydney tend to hold a bit more of a traditional forward structure, with players leading up at the ball carrier rather than away from them.

Does anyone ever look at who port has out there on the field that enables such slick transition?

When I looked at their teamsheet for the first time on Friday night, this was basically my reaction:

Ah yes, the scrotometer. 23 years ago. Miles ahead of his time!

One of his best bits that one. That and Tony Greig's car keys getting stuck in the pitch and a bowler hitting them causing a loud car alarm.

The investigation in Wired World of Sports 2 into the AFL's tight shorts controversy still brings me into hysterical laughter.

What is everyone else doing on the day? I was thinking of getting their earlier for a couple of settlers, but am i right in terms of getting a beer it's either in the ground or a pub nearby? It seems mainly kids stuff and food vans near the ground - there is one pop up pub but you need to buy a ticket for the day...

Nah, Fort was the emergency in prelim so Fort will be the next cab off the rank.
