100%.I previously saw a cost estimate of building an on-ramp at 16million for a new section of highway. That same on-ramp if built on existing section of highway with traffic when they can only come out at night and need to pack away all their machinery in the morning, cost more than 4 times as much!
The federal and state governments are upgrading a traffic bridge over the train line near my place in Sydney from five lines to seven lanes. They can only perform substantial construction a few weekends a year because of traffic and the train line below needing to be closed.
Five years, $220m. For less than 50m of road, or 100m of new lanes.
Absolutely it's needed, it's been needed for decades, but that's the advantage of it falling into an overlap of the NSW premier's electorate and a competitive federal electorate last election cycle.
