I previously saw a cost estimate of building an on-ramp at 16million for a new section of highway. That same on-ramp if built on existing section of highway with traffic when they can only come out at night and need to pack away all their machinery in the morning, cost more than 4 times as much!
100%.

The federal and state governments are upgrading a traffic bridge over the train line near my place in Sydney from five lines to seven lanes. They can only perform substantial construction a few weekends a year because of traffic and the train line below needing to be closed.

Five years, $220m. For less than 50m of road, or 100m of new lanes.

Absolutely it's needed, it's been needed for decades, but that's the advantage of it falling into an overlap of the NSW premier's electorate and a competitive federal electorate last election cycle.

Well schinner is definitely an ally these days and so is Quirk. I also think liveris the Olympics guy is an ally. I was confident on Victoria park still getting up, till i saw the new sports and Olympics minister is a former nrl referee, ffs.

Looking at his Instagram no mention of the lions winning the flag, plenty of rugby league on there though and even the Brisbane heat. Unfortunately Coates is already doing his bullying and no doubt v'landy's will be on the phone to Manner.

Let's think of it this way, a new stadium must be built regardless, the gabba rebuild is worse for the lions because it kicks them outta Brisbane for 4 years. Therefore, blokes with rugby league interest will think this is the best proposal, we can't avoid giving them a new stadium, so we may as well do some damage booting them outta Brisbane for 4 years to compensate.

Overall it's up to Cristifulli if he is smart enough to realise that the gabba is what cost Anastasia her job in the end. Victoria park is so obviously the only legitimately good solution that addresses all issues. Let's hope Quirk and Schinner are on the review panel in some way and it doesn't become a Manner and Coates shitshow.

*Anybody emailing Manner I'd go with the advantages for the Olympics and cricket first and foremost and mentioning the lions last. He won't wanna feel like he's helping the AFL and will need justification as to the Victoria park proposal for when Peter and Coates get on the phone to him.
In am pretty sure that Rugby League is not a part of the Olympics so can’t see how anyone with Links to league would have their thoughts taken seriously on Olympic matters.

Well apparently west tigers man John Coates was the one that convinced Miles on the stupid qsac idea and basically bullied quirk in an attempt to not recommend the Victoria park idea, whilst finding funding for the rugby league stadium Suncorp as an alternative. This in addition to influence from nrl commissioners Peter Beattie and Kate Jones towards miles.

They know a new stadium is a huge leg up to the AFL growth in Brisbane, so will find a way to make it more difficult. Either the lions will have to relocate for 4 years, or, they'll hit the afl up for millions to contribute to the new stadium, despite no other sport in the country ever chipping in for new stadia. Drain the afl coffers a bit.

How do think League is going to feel about potentially losing $1.5b in funding to renovate Suncorp Stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies?

They’re going to look for their slice of pie any which way.

Tim Mander is minister for sport and racing and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Kind of funny/weird how ministers sometimes get appointed on quite tenuous connections to their portfolio. "Mander was a RL referee so let's make him minister for sport". Anyway, I guess I'm happy he's not been made education minister with his links to the Scripture Union

That's really helpful to visualise the suggestions. How flat is it in the top right corner? i.e. acquire that "CRR Unity Alliance office", and build there - it seems very closely linked to both the busway and Exhibition Station compared to others, is still adjacent to the proposed warmup tracks, and could be argued that it's minimal loss of green space because it's not currently green space.
It is really the ultimate location. But there's a stone wall and stairs running alongside Gilchrist Avenue that have a heritage listing because they're from 1936. Personally I don't see the value in that (it's less than a hundred years old and this land has been inhabited for tens of thousands of years) but getting around heritage protection can be difficult. So I doubt it'd happen.

Also, that position is only about 200 meters from the biggest hospital in Australia.
I've seen several people online make this point, but I've never seen anyone from the hospital itself declare that it's a problem. It's worth noting Adelaide Oval is about 300m away from a hospital (and across a bridge from another), but this is just accepted as normal. So who knows.

Thanks for the visuals. Is the driving range the one that was just south of the golf shop and east of the QUT busway station?

The terrain is actually an advantage if it's factored in - and the Bold (Archipelago) design used it to full effect. It's part of the reason "underground" access is easy to achieve straight off the ICB because effectively it's cut into the hill. Designed right it also solves drainage issues of what will be large hard surfaces around the infrastructure.

The other benefit is completely aesthetic - but to me really valuable... uneven terrain allows architecture to have perspectives you don't get otherwise. The whole precinct can be set across multiple levels which helps divide and separate the development so it won't seem so big and over whelming.

This could truly be a world class precinct if we let the right people do it...

That's exactly where the Brisbane Bold proposal has positioned the stadium 👏

Even though there is enough room for a warm up track on that side of Gilchrist Avenue there is not enough space for a big stadium in the "CRR Utility Alliance Office". This area is also flat.
Also, that position is only about 200 meters from the biggest hospital in Australia.

It is hard for people to imagine how hilly the Victoria Park area is without seeing it or better still walking it.
I found a couple of images that may help visualize the Park for those that have not been there.

The wedding image with the Brisbane CBD in the background:
Regarding that red area i marked on the image:
That location is number 2 (blue) on my above view of Vic Park. This is one of the proposed sites in early reports.
Also, in the below image 2 (blue) has a zoomed in view of the same area.
Regarding the water hole you see down the hill on the wedding image.
The location of that waterhole: "B" image below.
The approximate location of the couple: "A" image below

To give you an idea of which way the land flows.
The pink squiggly lines are the low sections
The yellow squiggly lines are the high sections.

The Brisbane Bold proposal completely covers over the railway line(s) and the ICB, thus creating more space and building the stadium in that northeast corner.

When the new QSAC $1.6 billion funding was announced so was new funding for Suncorp and the Gabba.
Your post is giving Suncorp 3 times the amount it was to receive.

Suncorp and the Gabba together were given a total of $1 billion to be shared around the 50/50 split
To simplify things i always quoted $500 million each but one may get more than the other.
.......................................................................

In another snub for the Quirk Review, it was also announced the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC) would be upgraded and serve as the venue for the athletics despite the review finding such as upgrade would not offer legacy benefits.
The choice of Suncorp Stadium appears to be a win for the “new norm”, as it saves around $3.4 billion that was earmarked for the Gabba rebuild, while using an existing venue that will remain as a legacy asset.

Revamping QSAC is also broadly in keeping with new norm principles if it provides a substantially upgraded asset for the community post-Games.

However, using Suncorp is not cost-neutral, with Miles suggesting that if upgrades cost upwards of $1 billion, this would be shared “roughly half-half” between Suncorp and the Gabba.

He was always going to get this post announced today.

I have written to Tim Mander congratulating him on his resounding win and highlighting the political impact of ignoring the needs of the Lions and the greater AFL as well as Queensland Cricket in their future decisions. Crisafulli and Mander are Rugby League tragics and will naturally through personal history or poor knowledge devalue other codes. Get active folks. It'sTime.

Tim Mander did say just before the election that, contrary to what Crisafulli has said a new stadium is not off the table. The media never made much of the comment and it died, so you never know.

I've been doing my research today and he didn't say a new stadium is off the table, he just kept avoiding answering the question, as opposed to saying 'it's not off the table'. The video is online in a few places and here below, if we're referring to the same thing.

In some other refreshing news, which hopefully cancels out Mander's influence a little bit. Anika wells (federal sports ministers), her father is from Melbourne, so i took a look at her Instagram and good news, she's a lions nuffie. As long as albo doesn't get himself involved too much on behalf of his favourite lunch buddy Peter Vlandy's, she could also be an ally if the feds decide to split the funding.

The bolded: I think you will find "CRR Unity Alliance Office" is not where the stadium is located in Brisbane Bold proposal.
In the below image of Brisbane Bolds 3 structures, the stadium is pretty much in the position i had it. Blue 2 (post 5545)
Brisbane Bold have taken a fair bit of liberty in placing those structures.
As you mentioned it does span the rail and ICB for a considerable distance giving back some greenspace.
Costs ? for doing this type of work spanning 4 lanes of traffic and a fairly wide rail corridor, maybe refer dlanod post number 5551

I had number 3 in this image below as a possible site for the stadium but edited my post as it is listed on the Vic Park site as a historical place where 1500 trees of various varieties planted in 1959 cost 75 pounds.
So, i am doubtful that anything can go on that part of the park

Structures numbers 2 swimming and 3 Brisbane Arena front Gregory Terrace. Still part of Vic Park but on the other side of rail and ICB

In my opinion without any expertise in these arears it should be possible to build a new stadium and may be possible to build one other structure but i don't see 3 being built.
Also, i don't see the housing structures being allowed over kicking out the existing businesses unless they can be incorporated in the plan somehow, excluding the driving range.

1: New Stadium
2: Possibly swimming
3: Possibly Brisbane Arena
4: RBWH Hospital
5: To Exhibition Station
6: Gregory Terrace red line
7: Roma Street Parklands
8: Warm up track: This spans Gilchrist Avenue and covers the CRR Unity Alliance Office area.
9: Housing: They are calling it "affordable keyworker housing" To replace Function Rooms, Restaurant, Putt Putt, Golf Driving Range & large carpark
I assume selling the housing is to make the big project viable. A lot of people will be against this part especially the existing businesses.
This land is on the highest points of the park with great views of the city.

Do the plans for Victoria Park also include parking or is all access via foot/public transport?
Well, there are no plans for Victoria Park just speculation
If it somehow gets the green light i doubt any public parking would be included.

That will be it but I didn’t see the video I read it, so there is obviously a bit of mayo there, which could, or could not have come from me🤣

Well there are plans. That's literally what the documentation prepared by Archipelago and Steven Wilson are. They are plans.

I was unable to open the Tim Mander talk.

Regarding Anika Wells.
If she is a big Lions fan that may in fact work against us.
It could be viewed as being a conflict of interest even though cricket is involved
That may be why in her reply to my email in March she basically put it back on the Qld Government.
She mentioned something like:
I have had no request from the Qld government to alter the agreement.
At present we are committed to the $2.5 billion maximum towards the Brisbane Arena venue.
Although any change to the agreement, the Commonwealth would have to approve the change.
