Coach John Longmire - Part IV has resigned

Looks pretty clear to me that next year is Horse’s last, and being the team man he is, he is letting Cox inform the draft priorities as Cox will inherit the outcomes of those decisions. I wouldn’t be surprised if Cox steers additional things this year as well.

Which is not to validate the ridiculous drivel that has infested this thread. Several other clubs would die for a coach as good as horse. This doesn’t mean he is infalible, this doesn’t mean we aren’t approaching the right time for him to move on - but the attacks on horse appear to demonstrate that some people need to grow up and get over the GF disappointment.

100% Cox essentially was the senior coach this draft period going to players homes and giving the jumper.

I reckon Cox takes the reins for pre-season as well.

I agree with most of this, but I don't see 2012 as a residual Roos flag.

There were some team changes and you still have to gameday coach to get to and win a flag.

Plus this forgets that Horse was senior assistant under Roos, so any credit to Roos should probably also include those around him during his tenure, and Horse was also an assistant in 2005-06.

I think it's more likely he's a good coach for the most part, but has lost the way to prepare for and win grand finals. Which is a necessary part of coaching.
Yeah you’re right about 2012. I guess I’m just frustrated he can’t do it again.

He hasn't been attacked, and if he was the mods would be carding people.

His poor performance is being quesitoned.

The list of clubs who would die for Longmire to coach them is rapidly decreasing. Right now who would fire their coach to get Longmire? Adelaide, Port, Freo? maybe... Carlton. No one else would

If it’s Cox we can probably expect more of the same.
The club very comfortable with not being challenged by outside voices or direction.
I wouldn't be unhappy at all with Cox taking over. I always respected him as a player and I think he'd have his own way of doing things as coach, much the same as Longmire did when he took over from Roos.
I just think we need some sort of change up in the coaches box.

I agree we def need a change. I’m not saying Cox would be a poor coach I just think given he’s overseen these grand final disasters, if he had the solution we’d have seen it.

Yeah I know, I share the cynicism, I'm just desperate for change.
As Gough once said "It's time"!

Just need a prominent outside voice. I think they are too cozy and insulated for honest feedback and to act upon honest feedback.
There is no internal pressure because your board is elected and controlled by the AFL.
Getting your board in control of your members should be priority number one.

Crows members gain control of their board in 2028 according to a clause in the club constitution.
Does your club have anything like this in the constitution? Or is your club set to remain under AFL control indefinitely?

I’ve no idea what you’re talking about.

Feel for the players here. Recently drafted, recently traded Konstanty (couldn’t get a game under Horse) or guys who thought about leaving but convinced to stay. Coach walks out after their new contracts begin

This has been massively bungled. How can this happen so late into the off-season?

edit: perhaps bungled is a bit of a reach, but I'm still curious as to what's transpired in the months after the GF loss which led to him deciding to leave. How much of that will stick around once he's gone or do all the bad vibes go with him?

I'm unsure.
