There's no respect in calling what I said "absolute rubbish"

You're like my ex wife when I used to get dragged along for shopping, I'd want to get it done and dusted, but she'd get distracted by all of the bright and shiny things.

Answer me this....

Do you think that we haven't drafted what could be the basis of an elite and dominant midfield for the next 10 years? I'm sure that you'll answer that we don't know because they haven't been tried and tested yet. The same could well be said for Reid, yes, he looks the goods, but he hasn't yet performed on the big stage, so the jury has to be out.

We will add two more top 5 talents next year that will compliment what we've just done, remember that it's the sum of the whole, not just the individual parts that build a premiership team.

I have no idea why you think that we're not a destination club, do you actually support another club?
Lol. You're placing Harley Reid on the same level as Lalor and Smilie. Yes it was a superdraft , but there was no standout number one pick. It was a top 30 depth draft. Hopefully Lalor and Smilie become elite which I think they will. Yes I support Richmond you clown, that's why I want to get the best talent in the country at our club.
You want to take risks.

But what if we get picks 1 and 3 and we get two elite midfielders instead of just Harley Reid? What if pick 1 is just as good as Harley Reid and pick 3 is also elite?

We’d then be better off. That’s why I’d be hesitant giving two top picks away for Reid. Yes, he’s elite, but we have to think about what our picks can get us.
True, but I don't think there is a Harley Reid available next year.

No thanks to LDU and others. Imo, we should chase Reid, if it doesn't come off we go to the draft.
i don't actually want ldu either i was just giving a free agency $$$ hypothetical. i would much rather just go to the draft with 2 top 3-5 picks

only way i'd want to trade for reid is if us + north finished 9th-14th next year which i don't see happening

im team sharp + whoever atm

there's still a year to play out anyway, if sharp focuses on the offensive side of his game next year then that could be huge

harley is good but he's no naicos at the moment ;)

We get Reid whatever the cost imo, it's a no -brainer

You sleep behind the wheel you die.
Reid is the next Dusty.
Let's not forget we juggled our cap space pretty well around Dusty and Lynchs amongst others.
I doubt very much if Reid decides too come home it will be about money.
7 of the 24 gang he'd know.
This has familiar ring to it, why don't we trade for Pick 2.

Take our picks and go to the draft, it has a better risk profile than trading for Reid.

I think what is missing in this discussion is an acknowledgement that Reid might not become one of the best few players in the comp. Yeah he had a great year and everyone lost their respective minds over him, but at the end of the day he still has question marks, like any other 2nd year player. His tank, for one. He didn’t show the type of consistency as (for eg) a Selwood did when he first burst onto the scene. Don’t think you can fairly say that right now you’d definitely give him the win over Whitfield and Plowman or McCartin and Brayshaw, simply because Whitfield and Brayshaw are actually proven and he isn’t.

If he puts in another year of improvement then he probably gets there, but then equally Weagles would realise what they have on their hands and wouldn’t be accepting the two high picks. I just see the whole thing as extremely unlikely.

I agree it won’t happen. But if Reid was available for picks 1 and 3 next year I’m doing that deal. Keeping in mind Reid is ‘somewhat’ of a known quantity at AFL level. In his 6th and 9th games he scored over 26 AFL player ratings points … for anyone who follows these, over 26 is rarified air many qualify players have NEVER achieved ..and he’s done it twice by his 9th game! And his 5th game was his game against the Tigers when he tore us a new one with 27 disposals, 7 clearances and a goal. This kid is gonna be crazy good. No 19yo midfielder in my memory has done what he did in his first 9 x games. Not Judd, not Selwood, not anyone.

But it’s all irrelevant as it won’t be happening.

Dyson Sharp or Rodriguez might end up on his level.

Watching the Nationals this year, I was amazed at Sharp toying with players a year older than him at times. Looked right at home. I remember Harley Reid doing that too when he was 17.

We’ll have to see how the top draft prospects go next year of course, but it’s very possible we’ll have a Harley Reid type in the next draft.

Of course, and we could already have it, nail next year and it won't matter
If we get Reid we will be unstoppable. That'z what I truly believe. Imagine Reid , Lalor and Smilie in the middle. Algar and Hotton can play mid, the tall forwards are sorted. All we need is a tall defender , a wingman and a small forward.

We'll be unstoppable anyway.

Let's get our Wing, small forward and tall defender with the picks that would cost us in getting Reid.

We don't need a messiah (he's just a naughty boy anyway)

How would you know? You been watching these kids develop since under 12’s? And you can foresee the future too and can see there’s no elite kids available early in next years draft?
Trust in Blair and the recruiting team, they HAVE been watching next years draftees

Honestly saying we should definitely trade two top five picks for Reid a year out is so dumb

At this time before his draft year no one would have said Reid was a generational talent. Pick one next year likely won’t be as good as Reid but no one at all can currently say that with any level of accuracy worth listening to

Stop wasting your time people, talk about literally anything else

This video and the blues hierarchy reaction to recruiting Jagga seems completely inauthentic and staged

Not sure if this blues fan is happy or sad, he seems really worked up and angry

In any case poor Jagga has a heap of pressure on him, crazy expectations

Carlton seem to be reaching a bit on that Smith pick. Desperate for the AFL world to pat them on the head and tell them how good they did.
