Wait - Dudley is Kozzie's cousin??
Look like both fremantle and Melbourne list will be filled very soon with Kozi's relatives ?

Should have winder training with us.

Something must not translate from WAFL to AFL.

My guess is attitude. The fact we aren't letting him at least train shows he is a long way back.

At least we are targeting a small forward

Interesting Sam Toner was not considered.

Sam Toner could be no. 3 for all we know or possibly even turned it down (I doubt it but it’s possible). Could even be training with someone else next week.

I’m not sure these guys have the same ceiling as Toner but if we want someone who won’t look out of place if required them being a little older with SANFL experience would place them well to at least contribute.

I’d sacrifice a list spot to a stable mate to bring Kozzie in.

I think Narkle is solid depth on his own merits, for a few positions, and a Hail Mary at a small forward.

So what happens with ODIN now?. He will of course be undertaking full rehab for many months, but can he start to train with Peel or even Freo late in the 25 season?

Everyone is talking about Dudley and the Pickett connections which is fine.

The one who I think will be a stronger chance given he was chosen in the SANFL team of the year (on HFF) from Norwood (same club our new Assistant coach is from) is Lowe.

Twomey mentioned we were interested in him as a ND selection.

177cm 77kg mid forward who in 2024 pushed a lot more into the midfield. Kicked some nice goals on the run from around or outside 50. Played 20 games and kicked 20 goals and averaged 21 possessions. Looks to have a solid muscular build and no doubt would come to train with an assistant coach pushing his case. Has played over 50 SANFL games and played in both state matches in 2024 against VFL and WAFL.

Comments at the end of 2022:
“Lowe is not a super athletic small forward, blessed with explosive speed or incredible agility, but he does have toughness and the smarts to evade opponents. While some clubs may be looking for the more athletic type, Lowe is one who can still impact games in a variety of ways without necessarily burning off opponents. A rare, readymade small forward.” In 2022 his first year of league with Norwood he kicked 24 goals in 18 games. He slotted four majors in an outstanding 11-point upset win over Adelaide in the Preliminary Final. Without a doubt, Lowe's strengths are a balance between his offensive ability to hit the scoreboard, and his defensive traits. Won SANFL goal of the year in 2022.

Had a quieter 2023 as he started to play a bit more mid. Over the 2023/24 seasons averaged 6 tackles a game.

Really sounds a lot like Schultz bio from VFL before he was plucked by Freo late in the 2018 draft. IMG_5799.jpeg

He can take his time recovering which for his injury is very important. Able to do full rehab and conditioning under the watchful eye of club and then when cleared to start training can do so with Freo. If replaced with an SSP he cannot play. If another player goes down around MSD we could return him to the main list if all going well with his recovery.

Honestly the focus would be for him to recover from his injury and get back to training in the second half of the year. Whether he plays a few reserves games at the end of the year isn’t a big deal. Unfortunately he is a long shot which is a shame because he looked like he had done a lot of work over the post season break. He remains on the list and can show the club a lot through his recovery and training.

I noticed that defensive pressure and clean with ball in hand were both listed as strengths.

We’ve just had the National Draft and Rookie Draft. If you look at that way these guys are basically pick 90-odd (give or take). These draft profiles alway have weaknesses listed but it’s unrealistic to find the perfect player at this kind of selection.

One thing I find strange, is if you’re having a meeting with another club while under contract, would you do it at a golf course? A place where you know you will be seen. Let’s be honest, players play both sides of the fence for leverage when the time comes.

Good to see u back CTD!

It's pretty simple, we don't have the money for market price, Chad takes serious unders for those flags he says he wants or we focus on Kozzy. We have the cool hand in these negotiations. He's a garnish for us, where as West Coast desperately NEED HIM to build their Harley pitch around.

I like how complacent most of this board have become

One of the most damaging mids is coming out of contract who is a west Aussie and he is surplus to our needs.

And old and almost retired and often injured Fyfe who most likely won't play on
Then Johnson or Erasmus will have to step up big timeSerong Brayshaw Young

Or
Warner Serong Brayshaw Young

I know which will give us that premiership edge

I don’t think anyone doubts how valuable Warner is and the increased premiership edge his presence gives.

The cost, salary and better fit for team is where things sit.

I think we keep chasing both until the end of the season. At least until it becomes apparent that they are either no longer available due to re-signing (with Sydney for Warner, or a commitment to remain with Melbourne from Pickett).

I have a close contact at WC and they are going very hard for Warner. All chips in as they say. We have been chasing him hard as well.

As for Pickett the concern is he has been down this route and teased the likes of us, WC and Port. It does seem pretty real this time around when Twomey is saying he is the one player if asked to predict one to leave Melbourne he names Pickett and Fremantle. Stating that right up to the last day of trade period he was in discussions around a trade to Freo.

Yeah it sounds like they are going hard for him

I get the cost factor for Warner but I don't get that Kosdie is a better fit for us. I think they both are equally as important.

Kossie is contracted and Melbourne hold the cards. Warner is uncontracted.

True, only thing is that the normal rules don't really apply. We can spunk draft picks all over the place for Kozzie or Chad (and Chad may cost less here, though unlikely), but our cap is going to get tight fast if we even come close to meeting Chad's alleged cost, and we may lose more than we gain.

I do see a scenario in which we land both and lose Switta to Melb, plus potentially another name elsewhere. Even then I think we'd need Chad to take a team friendly deal.

Whoever is the biggest need will become apparent this year. If Johnno comes on like I think he will, then the improvement in our smalls probably takes it. Would love them both though.
