Three first rounders, two lost via sanctions plus the one we should've got for Tiprat.

Not at all, we lost 3 first and two seconds and gained zero players.

Even our shocking Gibbs trade we 'only' lost two firsts and gained an average player and a 2nd rounder back.

Our worst trade ever was still in a different league to Tipratgate.
And even then, our trade / draft periods for 2018 and 2019 were more damaging than the Tippett impacted years.

The biggest problem with the Tippett stuff was that only completely incompetent people would concoct it, and these morons were in charge of our club for years and years making any number of equally brainless decisions across all areas.
John Reid concocted it. The rest had to deal with the fallout.

It was always in the Cats best interest to facilitate a deal as another Vic Club would have selected him earlier if he "walked" to the draft.

IIRC one of the reasons we didnt get another 1st for him is because they had already traded out a future 1st.
Dangerfield was a free agent. He was never walking to any draft.

100% wrong

Everyone complicit. Unless you think Reid wrote out all the player contracts himself, plus did all the negotiating with sponsors himself, arranged payments and invoices himself, filed our contracts and financial details with the AFL himself, had all meetings with players/managers completely by himself etc

And whatever leg rope those higher up gave Reid to make decisions (supposedly with no oversight...) was by their choosing and design, therefore 100% on them too

If we had taken Charlie Curnow instead of Wayne Milera I reckon there would be fewer complaints about what we got for Dangerfield.
If Charlie Curnow didn't go on a bender and obviously get caught DUI and refused to be tested there's no way he slips that low.....and the fact his brother reportedly was very unhappy getting drafted by the Crows.

You think if we had taken Charlie he'd be at the Crows today? I don't.

Plus Dangerfield went public demanding the club explain how it was going to succeed despite the sanctions. If we looked a bit closer to a flag would he still have gone, or waited another year or two?

Edit here is what he decided to tell Fairfax media in 2014 during his last contract with us:

‘‘I’m one of those players who want to know the direction of the club. I’m always asking David Noble (the Crows list manager and strategic boss) about where we are at, because clearly there has been a lot of talk here about the problems we’ve had.

‘‘We lose Kurt Tippett for nothing and then first and second-round draft picks for two years and it makes it a lot more difficult to have success."
Simple answer Mardi and the father in law then Geelong mayor and GFC member and GFC coterie member.

What rubbish

His brother was disappointed we cut him after one season. As was Rendell who said at the time that he'll end up back on an AFL list.

Did Carlton not know about Curnow's bender? Just a stuff up by us.

No reason to invent excuses.

Your memory can't be too good, Ed Curnow was flat out getting a game for Glenelg's seniors at the time let alone playing AFL for the Crows

My memory is fine

Curnow was a slightly built indigenous kid taken late in the draft who would always take a bit of time

We instantly cut him despite him having the ability to play 200+ AFL games

Rookie draft actually which guaranteed him a 1 year contract.

No other AFL clubs had any interest until after his 2nd year of VFL.

If my memory serves me well he was rookie drafted to have a look at as Rob Shirley's replacement as a tagger/run with player.

You win some you lose some.

That's right

And this was a loss

Overlooking Charlie was a loss

It doesn't matter as long as your wins outweigh your losses comparative to our opponents, but ours don't

Slight correction too the Curnow's aren't indigenous either..

Curnow had athletic qualities that meant we should have invested more time in him, especially when the club has invested more time in some absolute spuds across the journey. However, as Bicks said, neither Curnow are Indigenous.

Was he the one that chose to go back to Melbourne after a year on the rookie list?

If we had taken Curnow and he turned out to be a huge flight risk and left, we'd be in the exact same position we are now with Milera.

Except if we had taken Curnow there was still a chance of retaining an elite player.

Because Milera has been a bust it was categorically the wrong decision in hindsight
