I genuinely feel sorry for the staff that work at AFL clubs.

They must have people bothering them a dozen times a day with their "ideas" about what should be done differently to "help the boys win". You can't just roll your eyes at them, without coming across like an arseh*le.

It's not just our club - most clubs are pretty decent with dealing with it.
LoL, you reckon that’s actually true? 10 times a day, really? Reckon it would rarely happen. AFL staff would leave their home, go to work, come home just like most of society. Where would they be coming across these 10 people? How many people would actually recognise someone like Marco Bello?

Unless you were there you have no idea if he was engaging or wanted to roll his eyes.

He could have legitimately got away after a couple of minutes of being polite saying he need to get into the change room but he didn’t. Again I gave him opportunities he could have easily taken as I knew I was taking up his time but he stayed and continued to talk. I was the one who ended it as my friends were getting impatient waiting. Perhaps he found it refreshing to speak to someone outside the club that didn’t parrot the clubs opinions. Know anyone who would fit into that category?

Who I feel sorry for is velvet lovers.

To be honest it probably is true.

Facebook and Twitter being prime examples.

But some DO have good ideas that would be worth listening to.
See my updated post. Where would AFL staff come across these 10 people a day?

Facebook and Twitter are social media, afl staff don’t engage with them unless they choose to.

If an afl staff member especially after a game said “thanks for the chat but sorry mate I’ve got to get into the changerooms” Would anyone consider that rude or reasonable? Surely the latter.

I might be critical of the club and a pain in the arse to some, but I don’t think anyone would classify me as a liar as I’ve given no reason for anyone to think that in all my time on BF.

If I’m saying I gave him 2-3 chances to end it in 10-15 minutes but he actually chose to stay and chat, is that really that unthinkable that it could be true?

Lol, being harassed by strangers with opinions on the team would happen every time they bought a coffee, waited in a hotel foyer or stood in an airport.

There's always ill informed blowhards who would want to bend their ear with opinions on player selection or club decisions - you think those thousands of people posting online or calling talk radio aren't equally as annoying in real life?

But hey, I'm not calling you a liar or saying anything about your interaction - I've seen Jenny and her husband lead long discussions with club representatives in respectful ways, so it certainly happens.

I'm saying AFL staff walking down Lygon Street would get opinions thrown at them every 50 metres.

Having been in your position previous i know you're not a liar.

I doubt most people would know Marco Bello if he got in a lift with them, even avid Crows fans

And when coaching staff are decked out in club gear and identifiable it's at trainings and matches where fans are at arm's length

Maybe they get inundated with fan advice but I doubt it

Lol, that’s just bullshit, have you witnessed any of it? You said 10 times a day, are they buying 10 coffees a day or is they are visiting hotel foyers daily or flying every day?

I’ve seen clubs travelling interstate and they are left alone. The only time I’ve seen anyone actually being mobbed by strangers is Harley Reid this year at the Perth airport and that was to get photos and autographs.

How many football supporters would recognise someone like Marco Bello?

I bailed up blighty after training in 97. Told him to start Ellen at FF in the granny.

The rest is history

Also, you weirdly referencing a jacket I wore to an event in 2006 is kinda creepy.

It feels like a boy in the school yard pulling the pigtails of a girl he has a crush on. Mate, relax.

Lol, dude you had it on your Twitter profile and given I don’t know your name, how could I know that unless you shared it?

And no it doesn’t feel like that at all, weird analogy. I reference it because it’s actually funny.

Mate, I have no reason to think Marco Bello didn't enjoy hearing your opinions, in the same way I'm sure the club appreciates getting the emails from 199others. Getting direct feedback from fans would be valuable to them.

If you think the coaching staff of Carlton or Richmond don't get approached a dozen times a day in Punt Road or Lygon St, then you're wrong.

Hell, I saw Tim Silvers get approached a bunch of times by people at Harvest Rock in 2023, and maybe they were all mates, but I'm sure some were just fans who recognised him.

Anyway - maybe they don't get approached. Maybe they can wander through life without any kind of harassment (other than online or in the media). That would make me really happy, if I'm honest.

You are talking about high profile people like a club CEO, I’m sure he’d get some interaction but guys like Bello and the majority who form a football department? Nah.

Yeah, it does - bringing up my appearance in formalwear as often as you have seems kinda creepy. Dude, we're not gonna date, I don't roll that way.

Anyway, about a third of those at the Brownlow this year wore a velvet jacket as part of their black tie, so it seems a really odd thing to obsess about ...

Sure, that's fair enough.

My original comment was more general about those working at AFL clubs. Folks that I know who work at the Lions get asked about club stuff constantly, but maybe that's not a big sample size. They'd be surrounded by people clamouring for AFL talk in an NFL state.

Creepy? Reckon you’re clutching and what’s your definition of often?

So you were ahead of your times, bit like George Costanza, you should take it as a compliment

I'm just stuffing around - if you want to bring up my spectacular velvet black tie, then go right ahead.

I have no idea where that jacket ended up, and I would wear the hell out of now if I knew where it was. Maybe even inside out, to get the full effect.

Lol, given you were there you know exactly what happened. Tell me what’s your take on this:

“Mate ill let you go, taken enough of your time”
“No all good” whilst he continues the convo.

Game had finished, players and coaches were going down to the rooms and I gave him 2-3 opportunities to end it but he kept chatting.

Its your world and you are correct - I wasn't there and can only speculate on it.

But since you asked me, my take is you have an extreme lack of self awareness and in your mind Marco and you were engaged in a thrilling conversation.

But when you describe the conversation like this it doesn't sound too fun for poor old Marco.

"Honestly if this was a boxing match I would have won 9 out of 10 rounds.

I think he originally expected me to be a supporter who would accept his responses, little did he realise I was a hard core fanatic who dedicates his life to trying to fix the Crows woes"

Would love to hear Marco's honest thoughts about this interaction.

Never said I had a source, said I spoke to someone at the ground, now you know who. Based on what he said about Curtin would you have expected him to play the following week? When I said half back he said on who? He named their half forwards who were nimble, he said would you play Curtin on them? I said I’d play him on Gorgiadis as he pushes up the ground.

Given you think I didn’t make it up, as for feeding me bullshit, which parts actually sound like bullshit?

You answered yourself mate.

Marco had the chance to leave the conversation a number of times, he chose to not wrap it up. The conversation was civil and friendly, I wasn’t speaking to him like I treat some numpties on here, perhaps he enjoyed having his opinions challenged and hearing a countering view, I didn’t have him in a headlock forcing him to stay.

Not sure what you mean by answered it my self, he dismissed Curtin playing at half back against Port, said there wasn’t the match up, Ports half forwards were too nimble for him.
When I mentioned Gorgiadis he said Gorgiadis plays deep and I said but he also pushes up the ground. This is where he actually got me, clearly their concern was Curtins ability to play on nimble forwards and his defending was a concern when played deep in defence. This was exposed against Brisbane.

Interesting they then started developing him as mid in the SANFL, something I asked why they weren’t doing and questioned why we wasted anther top pick on a defender if we weren’t going to develop him as a mid when our midfield was our weakness.

So you never answered which of the info I shared from Marco that he made up to string me along for 10-15 minutes and you’d have to question why would he even do that when he could have stopped the convo when I repeat I gave him opportunities to. Something you’d expect a club official to do?

Strange position you’ve taken on this, almost like you’ve dug your heels in to back up your previous position. I told you I spoke to someone then, never said I had a source, based on the conversation I didnt expect him to play and I was surprised when he did based on that conversation. I would have thought what I’ve written has backed that up, instead you’re trying the “he wasn’t having fun, he stayed talking longer than he needed to so he could bullshit you” routine and that’s just weird and stubborn.

You reported that Curtin wouldn't play against Port because Marco told you that - That was proved to be bullshit.
When Curtin was named in the team - you claimed he wouldn't be played across half back because Marco told you there was no matchup for him - That was proven to be bullshit.

You implying your conversation with Marco changed Curtin's development? Ha ha ha ha.

Just saying it sounds like maybe there is a different side to the story.

Not really a strange position.

You come out with insider info that proved to be 100% incorrect. I called you on it and suggested that you made it up (reasonable considering you were dead-set wrong) Happy to concede that you had a convo with Marco.

6 months later you come out out with your Marco Bello story. The way you told the story was douchey as can be. This combined with the fact that he gave you information that was 100% incorrect - leads me to believe that you maybe you lack self awareness - especially considering how you talk about how if your 'civil' conversation was a boxing match you would have won 9 out of 10 rounds and that he wasn't expecting someone to challenge him like you did.
