Agree completely, maybe the old school values don’t exist anymore.
However there is no better feeling singing the song after a gutsy win and looking around and staring in the eyes of genuine mates, who you have history with, played juniors with, went to school with, or are life long...
I could be absolutely missing the mark here, however is Deer Parks ground not also a postage stamp, however in length not width. In other words West Coburg has no wings (like a rectangle hence the criticism) and Deer Parks length goal to goal distance is tiny like a junior ground?
100% agree. They have won the last 2 prelims by over they 50 points as well - which highlights they are a pretty strong Div 1 outfit, which is particularly difficult to achieve given they don’t rely on big name recruits.
They have simply come up against 3 very good sides over the last 3 years...
Impossible to think Marby will dominate after the last time they played. West Coburg had a ton of good looks however did not execute with some inaccurate goal-kicking, 4 more scoring shots though. No way this game is a blow out.
Yep, you certainly are able to use up to 46 points. I guess the point (talking generally) is the degree of difficulty of the home grown approach, versus the chequebook approach, where clubs load up on recruits each year, sometimes at the expense of their own junior program. You have to admire...
So how did they recruit so well for a Div 1 season (which is a good effort and hard to do, given div 1) but not retain the bulk of those premiership players heading into a premier grade?
Serious question. How was it that most people I speak with agree that Deer Parks 2024 Premier team was inferior to their 2023 Div 1 team. I know a couple of their boys went to the US having a crack at punting - however with everyone dropping a point, in theory the 2024 team should have been...
That’s a really fair view. With that said, Marby in my view, are miles off Deer Parks 2023 team. It was quite odd in reflection, that Deer Park then went to premier with a much weaker team than the year before.
So in saying that, this week at Keilor, which from all reports is quite soft...
I reckon Kane O’Harralon from Oak Park is in the discussion, 61 goals and has a beautiful set of hands. He would be on the radar of a few clubs next year.
I like this debate:
Marby A and average 40 points per game.
WC A and average 23 points per game.
On this basis there could be a discussion around ladder position versus resources / cash?
These 6 by all accounts would be in WC best 22 who did not play Saturday - Omar Saad, Tom Drake, Abdi Fittax, Jona Horro, Blake Ross, Perry Petrakios, still a massive mountain to climb you would think, but not all lost given makeup of WC team will be very different if they face each other again...
We will all know more this week - Marby versus West Coburg. West Coburg have already beaten Marby at shore Reserve - so Marby get a chance to show everyone how good they are and if the hype is real on their own deck.
Which is to be fair, is beauty of West Coburg. Not great facilities, can’t pay huge money, yet extremely competitive because playing for the jumper actually means something to the players. It's an old style mentality where they lift because their mates have high expectations of one another and a...
That west Coburg v Hillside score result is interesting, Hillside may have had players out as well however reckon there was 6 from WC best team out. Was still a great game with that said.
Gee there is a lot of commentary around the ground size..😁 it is the same for both teams and arguably, the way WC now play their footy, reckon they are suited to bigger grounds. They would love to play at the larger Coburg City Oval which i’m told is being worked on.
