See I reckon that’s a bit revisionist. Check his 2011 season, the year before Dank. He was leading the Brownlow after 7 rounds on 11 votes. Then in the eighth game he went and pulled his hamstring, in the end that cost him six weeks out and he struggled to regain full strength in the muscle...
