Is it?

I'm straight - wouldn't be concerned if I was described as having my own licker license.

It may be a point of semantics but I really don't see the insult, malice or vilification etc.

I was more of the opinion that it was just a rude way to speak about a colleague in general when this first became an 'issue'.
Mate, the word "licker" is an oft-used perjorative against lesbians here in Australia. Tom Morris probably thinks it's hilarious to extend this to "licker license".

It's crudely reducing people to a sex act, like calling someone a cawksucker, or a rug muncher, or a clam diver. These are derogatory terms. We don't crudely label heterosexuals by what they do in bed. So what makes you think it's inoffensive to label LGBT people in such a way?

Grow a brain, FFS!!!

edit: Tom Morris was not only homophobic, but while gossiping & objectifying his work colleague, he also publicly outed her.

That's very true actually. I would be aghast if someone reduced me to the term "campaigner smasher."

He's a Murdoch entitled sycophant reporter who loves racist Trump and doesn't have ethics.
He's a Melbourne private school connected twat and can't do his job properly.

Yep, American Trump fans are awful people, but Australian Trump fans are not only awful, but also pathetic given they are worshipping a politician that is not even Australian.

I don't really see how this is anti-LGBTQI in any way.

Just a rude way to speak.

Like saying the d*ck instead of penis.

licker license

Another way to say someone is a lesbian.

It’s a clever little name-calling device that somebody has come up with to put shit on a lesbian.

“You heard xxxx has her liquor license?”

People come up with funny names all the time based on a wide range of things, not just sexuality. Many perfectly harmless… perhaps based on height? Or hair colour?

But I think the point is that when they’re directed at a group of people who are historically marginalised or discriminated against (homosexuals certainly are) and the device itself is a crude representation of that (lick-her being a crude representation of female homosexual sex), then there’s a very good chance the target will once again feel pretty victimised based on (in this case) their sexuality.

I think they’d tell you that themselves.

If there’s a group of people who are historically marginalised, probably just steer clear of “funny” names that directly refer to the basis of that marginalisation (sexuality, gender, race, etc etc).

For us it’ll seem harmless, for them it’s probably the start of the old slippery slope where they’re once again defined by the one thing that has seen them marginalised and punched down upon.

For someone who falsely slandered me as being racist back in 2020, you are pretty clueless about what bigotry actually is.

Read my reply to Andyy in the post above
Don't recall doing anything of the sort.

Yep, there is a difference between calling your best friend a moron, and calling a person who you are not friends with and who has a mental disability a moron. One is just light hearted banter, the other is punching down and being cruel.

Why is someone of a different sexuality 'down'?

Hey man calm down, I accept what you said and am learning.

When I heard he said it that was a first for me. Have never heard the term used, let alone as a slur.

The way he said it seemed like he was fetishising it.

I don't remember the audio, was years ago and I heard it maybe once.

Anyway I've never had an interest in lesbian action nor heard the terms used at all, let alone in a derogatory manner.

Suppose I just don't hang around with those types.

because gay people have been treated a lot worse than straight people throughout much of history. Hell, when the allies reached the concentration camps in WW2, liberating them, they released the Jewish people and political prisoners, but they left the gay people in there.

I understand that, the tone of your post was just very weird.

I'm sure there are some slang terms that gay people call straight people when discussing with their friends. No?

edit - I've heard straight people be labelled 'breeders' in a derogatory tone by some gays.

Opposite in what way? I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing.

You're saying he makes the story about himself which couldn't be further from the truth from what I've seen/heard of him lately.

Jobe Watson is a disgraced drug cheat who can't even form a coherent sentence and he's commentating games on Channel 7

This is the world we live in.

When Jobe W was 18-20 and interviewed he came across as highly articulate and very funny. He is neither these days. I do not get what happened.

Morris is just another toxic gossip column huckster.

Not a patch on young Zander Nepo Man McGuire when it comes to researching a ground breaking story let alone having Bard like chops with the pen.

He's right far more often than he's wrong so entirely disagree.

Leave Tom Morris alone
