If even the top sides are off their game by 5 > 10% they can be beat.
Geelong is feeling the effects of no Selwood, Corey and a somewhat hesitant Bartel. It looks like Bartel knows that one more concussion this season will mean several weeks on the sidelines. Their KP forwards look fragile...
Really?
I'd love some links to any articles saying this. I read the AFL sections of the Age and Herald Sun pretty much daily and don't recall any that bring up Glass.
And also lets not confuse AA honours to being the same as being recognised by the Australian football public.
OK its going to be a long weekend without a game to watch, thankfully our next game is a Friday night fixture.
In the mean time who do you think is in AA form in 2011?
I'd say:
Cox
Glass
Looking at their opposition for AA honors in the rucks and at full back there have been plenty of...
This was touched on this week On the Couch by Sheahan.
And guess what, he basically said the opposite to your post about a player who is again in AA form and a massive reason why the Eagles are climbing back up the ladder. He doesn't get the recognition he would get if he played in Melbourne...
I don't think its that simple (whenever is anything simple these days?).
Last season we had heaps of injuries and played the kids. Our talls last year included Hansen, Kennedy, Lynch, EMac, Brown, Schofield and Naitanui and for the bulk of the season excluded Cox and Glass.
This season...
Um, we didn't lose a single player to GC and he was out of contract, they could have got him for free if they wanted him so 'us asking too much' doesn't sound correct.
For years I've though we play too tall down back, this tear injuries have forced us to play only 2 KP backs and 4 mid sized defenders and look how well thats been going.
I really hope the match committee actually learn from this experience.
So developing a tall who can play roles at both...
And what happens if / when Mitch Brown is available and say Lynch is out?
One of EMac, Schofield, Brown or Glass will need to play forward or not get picked.
EMac and Glass are backmen.
Mitch was drafted as a CHF but his knee problems have made CHF in a developing wooden spoon side...
Why?
The AFL asked for and required the players consent to impose the testing. The players agreed in good faith and to help lift the professionalism of the sport, which in turn has helped the sport grow and get larger TV rights deal.
If the players feel the AFL are not sharing the spoils...
Not sure if we would recruit better options for McGovern and Hamp. By running our own reserves side we would be more focused on development than winning WAFL games.
The extra players on the list would be more likely young guys we want to look at / develop and a couple of older ex AFL players...
Reported today that Joel Selwood and Travis Varcoe are flying across to Perth for 2 weeks of mid season training with a WAFL club in an aim to freshen them up.
They will be 'sleeping over' Adam Selwoods place.
So do we start the Adam to Geelong rumours or do we start Joel and Varcoe to the...
Exactly, they wouldn't strike and jepordise the season.
What they would / should do is things like;
Boycotte the Browlow night - can you picture Demetriou calling out the votes with no players attending:D;)
Suspend their support for the drug testing regime
Hold a vote of no confidence in...
It was. Six posters say we are being gentlemen, two losers come on and spit the dummy and get abusive and the Mods side with the two abusive losers.
Poor form.:thumbsd:
Lesson -If you want to discuss footy in a reasonable manner don't bother going onto the Carlton board, stick to our own...
Brown is out of contract so GWS can get him for free remember.
If he was under contract Brown for O'Meara might get it done, I wonder if we can re-sign him and then trade him if he agrees? I don't think you can.
Darling - has to be, astounded we got him and happily surprised with his early impact.
Q Lynch - return to 2006 form, great stuff.
Kerr - so many doubts over his injuries
Nicoski - no one saw his revival coming
Hams - has dropped off the radar
Masten I am not surprised about at all...
Yep, thought of Embely, could be a good option as well.
I recall reading / hearing that with the Press teams do actually target individual backmen, obviously the play makers coming out of defense more so than the straight lock down defenders. Maybe we will just pay the likes of Scarlett a bit...
[/B]
The Eagles played a great game, no doubt should have won by more if they kicked straight and they exploited the Blues lack of hieght etc.
But where the Blues lost it was in the loss of team coheision, 6 changes and then losing your full back kills a sides balance and team work. Half...
I posted in the Changes for the Cats thread that Schofield may be a good option at FF as a semi defensive role on Scarlett. Scarlett is the Cats backline general and he starts a hell of alot of rebound 50 attacks.
If Schofield can shut down Scarlett's counter attack, make him accountable and...
Well reading that thread the interaction was going along nicely, respect shown from the visiting Eagles supporters and the comments made by several Blues posters was great. Saying that they "felt like they were being burgled by gentlemen who even made the beds and lowered the dunny lid before...
I rate Surjan and if we could get him reasonably cheap I'd say yes.
Then again Ash Smith is getting better with every game and we have a fair few smaller non KP backmen developing in Brennan, Blayne Wilson, and J Jones. The midfield numbers are also pushing / rotating Adam and Scott Selwood...
With our new game plan > The Forward Press - the question is do you need a gun midfield like we had in 2006?
I think the answer is no.
We are now taking on a style similar to the Swans defensive flood but in reverse, we have an 'offensive flood' so to speak. Now the Swans used the flood...
What are people thoughts on Schofield going forward and playing a semi defensive role on Scarlett?
I've seen a couple of footy show discussions with Brad Scott and Dunstall and on AFL 360 talking about how important Scarlett is to the Geelong backline and more importantly how he is a major...
Well in todays game he was shocking. Recall in the 3rd or 4th he had the opportunity to nudge the Pies Brown off his line in a marking contest but baulked and let him knee the back pocket high in his back and take an uncontested mark and goaled.
The small guy just turned around in disbelief...
Lying in bed reviewing the 2011 Eagle Eye and our list, came up with these scenarios:
Almost certain - Delist
B Jones
D Daziell - remote trade possibility
Likely to seek a trade
C Wilson - Darling falling in our lap has killed Wilsons chance
T Swift - is finding it tough for opportunity...
From reports and direct quotes Brown is settled and keen to remain where he is. But I'd certainly entertain a Brown trade to get O'Meara.
We do have Eric MacKenzie and Schofield as well as an aging Glass. Glass had almost all of last year off so maybe that will help extend his career to say...
So does the GC have a different rule about trading players only 1 year after being drafted?
Gorringe traded after only 1 season after using such a high draft pick on him doesn't sound right, especially if Fraser is retired?
Why would Fraser be traded to GC for a 1 year deal?
It would depend on what other offers I had recieved. Remember these U17's must be traded or you get nothing. Its not as if GWS paid for them with a top 3 pick already, they are bonus tradable items.
Naitantui as the example is a tad silly because a gun big man is more valuable than a gun...
Masten for O'Meara:eek:
Do it. A pick 3 for an U17 top 3 pick.
Masten has attitude problems IMO. Massive ego, injury prone and has struggled to make an impact. Masten wants to play in the guts but we have a long list of inside mids who are performing better than him. He's getting...
