just for fun I have made a reserves team using whoever isnt currently in the 22

WCE reserves:

FB stevenson B wilson jojo

HB brennan brown waters

C dalziell masten sheppard

HF hams hamp strijk

FF weedon c wilson broome

R lycett stevens gaff

I bones houlihan JON

Sub mcgovern

(neates is currently injured so ive omitted him)

would a team like this dominate the wafl?

7 of those guys played for East Freo last weekend, including 4/5ths of your starting midfield and 2/3rds of the halfback line, and they got pantsed by a team outside the top 4.

So I don't think you can say they would dominate. They'd certainly be competitive.

If we were going to do it right, we'd have to drop a few of those guys to the reserves for ex-Eagles who are in better form.

Ash Hansen, Andrew McDougall, ummm, Steven Armstrong....Who else is running around?

I'm far from an expert on what players should be doing on field but from what I saw of that game pretty much every Eagles player except maybe Sheppard just looked for easy touches at half back.

I'd love to see how many disposals Eagles players got forward of centre in that game.

1st you would have to look at our best 22 if all fit..

IMO Best 22
FB- Waters, Glass, Schofield
HB- Hurn, Mackenzie, Butler
C- Embley, S.Selwood, Rosa
HF- Nicoski, Kennedy, Darling
FF- LeCras, Lynch, Hams
RR- Cox, Kerr, Priddis
Int- Naitanui, Shuey, Strijk
Sub- Ebert

So the remaining would be---
FB- B.Wilson, McGovern, J.Brennan
HB- B.Jones, M.Brown, A.Smith
C- T.Houlihan, Masten, Sheppard
HF- Weedon, Hamp, Swift
FF- Broome, C.Wilson, Neates
RR- Lycett, A.Selwood, Stevens
Int- Stevenson, Gaff, McGinnity
Sub- Dalziell

Ive Highlighted the areas that we would need to Recruit better options.
Hamp and McGovern are only 190cm, A touch small to hold KPP, as a 3rd tall thats fine but unless your Jack Darling then 190cm is too small.

The options could be 1 of our Draftee's from the next draft or players like-
Jamie Graham, Ash Hansen, Adam Hunter, Chad Jones, Andrew McDougall and Say it a development role for the club.

But as these guys are basically set to their WAFL sides I would prefur that we look at players who are still young and have been on our list before but for 1 reason or another were delisted and this would then give them a greater chance at being redrafted, Players like-
James Thomson, Beau Wilkes, Will Sullivan, Adam Cockie, Tony Notte, Jamie McNamara, Ryan Davis and Ash Arrowsmith.
This would give them extra developement time, as well as increasing our chances of drafting a mature age recruit above everyone else.

If You change the Bolded players in the ressy's side to FB-Wilkes and CHF- Notte then we start looking like a team that not only developes our own talent but also looks after it when they may need more time to develope plus it would help with our interstate recruites because they would be less likely to go home if they had a chance at getting redrafted..

My case point would be if we decided to Delist Lewis Broome, Tom Swift and Lewis stevenson at years end. They would still play for our WAFL reserves team and if any of them reached their full potentual then we would be in the perfect position to redraft them.

Thats my 2 cents and my 2 cents is free. :thumbsu:

Not sure if we would recruit better options for McGovern and Hamp. By running our own reserves side we would be more focused on development than winning WAFL games.

The extra players on the list would be more likely young guys we want to look at / develop and a couple of older ex AFL players like Hansen who we would be paying a bit of a retirement package to. Then again the AFL would be all over this!

What would be painfull is developing a kid and then another AFL club drafts them.

a) normally if your delisted there is a sound reason for being chopped
b) normally if your delisted the last place you want to be around is the club that delisted you in the first place.
c) we would be in no better place to redraft them as you dont get priority in the draft to get these players so they are open for anyone to get if they turned out to be any good.
d) find it funny people still talk up lewis broome when hes now just getting given league games on the eagles say so even though hes been found out as not upto wafl standard.

The thing about the whole reserves side I don't get is, look at Fremantle. They couldn't field a side, do they pick up 10 or so players or young kids at the start of the year ? Agree that we need our own reserves side just for game styles and playing players where the coaches want them but there is a few things that I don't understand 100%.

Is there a thread that explains in detail how it would happen ?

Apparently the extra players needed would come from ex-players and random other kids.

The WAFL reckons that this would hurt the quality of the WAFL because players close to being AFL listed would play with the Eagles or Dockers reserves in the hope of increasing their chances of being rookie listed or whatever.

At least that's how I understand it. I have very mixed feelings about the concept so I don't really follow it.

playing hamp in a KP spot I think is essential for his development as he is considered a project player anyway. I personally beleive that delisted/retired eagles players should go to a seperate wafl team as it will rob our developing players of game time in the positions we wish them to be good in. If anything maybe the rest of the team will be made up of kids from the country which is out of the way of wafl catchment areas.
