I can only remember one player kicking 20 odd goals in a match in a serious competition and that was Bernie Naylor against Subiaco from memory. He would quite regularly kick over 100 goals a season.
I've only glanced at the comments here, so forgive me if this has been raised earlier.
I thought that all the Dockers players were being sucked into the contest leaving 2 or 3 Essendon players free and standing just off the contest waiting for the hand pass and the opportunity to run away with...
Certainly the Vic clubs ask to play collingwood in Melb. And they seem to get their wish. Similarly, I believe, we ask not to play in Tamania but we don't get our wish.
Simple solution - FORFEIT or acknowledge that we'll lose and send the 'B' team. Gives the heavy lifters an extra week off.
It is interesting that The Mongrel Punt had a really good go at the AFL (in our match review) about the fixturing sending us to Tassie 12 times whilst Collingwood have never been there. In fact the article comments that Pendlebury has never played a game in Tassie or Geelong. Additionally there...
While I was born in WA I still have some sympathy for Adelaide as my father played on a wing for Norwood (just after the first world war) so you can guess thAT I'm a fair age. I found the TV preliminary to this game to be totally depressing as it was virtually a 10 minute show about Essendon.
On...
It's very noticeable to me that we don't seem to apply enough pressure when our opponents are bringing the ball from defense with short kicks to players under no pressure at all. This happened again tonight on a number of occasions and it's not good. How often did Adelaide have a pass into the...
I'm being a bit cautious at the moment. While it is exhilarating to beat the Eagles anywhere anytime etc I've got to look at yesterday's match and really, I've started thinking that maybe we're not as good as one might think. When I look at the senior players the others were missing ( and yes I...
I've only watched part of the second half of this massacre but one thing that stood out was the "couldn't care less attitude from their senior players". Yeo looked as if he wanted to at any club except this one and the other senior players - Gaff, Darling, Barrass, Shuey & Allan also looked...
All day I've been waiting to read the match report on the West Coast v Collingwood game, but it's the only game that doesn't have the match report up on the website.
I've just e-mailed AFL asking why? Wonder if I'll gat an answer?
It's now about 1 1/2 hours after the first post. Match report is...
Quote from "The Mongrel Punt" - If Simpson was a race horse at Flemington the white tent would be up and the glue factory's old Bedford would be chugging down the back straight.
Back in the early fifties my Dad was invited down to East Perth by Frank Allan (East Perth winger) to watch a young kid in their colts or something. I can remember Dad saying after the match that the young bloke was all arms and legs but he didn't watch the ball on the ground. He just knew where...
Just watching the replay and after Amiss scored his snap goal he sat on the bench. Fyfe had been subbed off just before that and it was exciting to see Fyfe talking intently to Amiss (who was paying attention) pointing something out to improve his game.
Reminded me of the master and the apprentice.
When you continually put the ball in high and long and it just gets swept out by their defense, unless you're brain dead, you would automatically look for a short lead. But then, maybe, I'm brain dead and they have been trained and instructed to kick long and high into the forward line at all...
I'm very impressed with Amiss but is it only me (and my opinion) who feels that he gets a bit too close to the man on the mark when shooting for goal?
Does any else feel the same?
“I do think they set out to do damage wherever they can. I don't think this falling across legs and stuff is all purely accidental. We are down and they want to keep us down.”
I noticed this post on the Eagles board just a minute or two ago. Just shows how classy their supporters are.
I have just finished looking at some of the statistics from the game. With 50% more hit outs yet 50% less clearances we have a big problem here. No 2 problem is that we had 50% more free kicks so we can't blame the umpires. No 3 problem is we had a slightly better disposal efficiency and more...
I know that this is too controversial but it would stamp out these and other acts instantly. In McAdam's case he gets 3 weeks, first week his team plays one man short, the remaining 2 weeks are suspended subject to "good behaviour" for the balance of the season.
The argument against is who is...
What can we say after an exhibition like that. Only once (in the last quarter) did I see a forward lead into the empty space. Pretty well every time we had the ball just outside the fifty you would look up and evry fremantle player in the forward 50 was standing still waiting for the easy goal...
I have spoken earlier in this thread how much I enjoyed interacting with Salim at training. But what really pleases me is to note the large number of posters who have similarly enjoyed their time with Salim.
Farewell mate.
I met Salim the very first day I went to training at Fremantle. We've had many interesting conversations since then but not over the past few years due to distance.
Always a real gentleman i person.
