They’ll be looking to acquire some future assets for sure. The other possibility is look to consolidate some of those picks to move further up the board to guarantee they get the guys they want. Pretty good spot to be in

    Traded Tom Barrass & 2025 F4 (WCE) traded to Hawthorn for 2025 F1, F2 & F3 (all Haw)

Yep. They have all bases covered now with Barrass. As good as their defence was last season, they could occasionally be exposed by the really big forwards. The 200cm guys. Frost had the 2 best years of his career the past couple. But Barrass is obviously an upgrade. The interesting question for...

    Traded Tom Barrass & 2025 F4 (WCE) traded to Hawthorn for 2025 F1, F2 & F3 (all Haw)

…in the reserves. He showed a bit in his first couple of games. That was exciting. He didn’t show a lot else in terms of actual performance. Teased with the odd highlight. Let’s not pretend he was Eddie Betts. Or ever likely to be. A nice, speculative, value pick-up by west coast. Hope he makes...

Traded Bailey Smith: 4-way trade: B. Smith (WB) & pick 45 to Geel / pick 38 to Carl / Macrae (WB) to StK / pick 17 & Kennedy (Carl) to WB

I didn't suggest that they didn't have rules, I just think their rules are no longer fit for purpose or are adequate to govern the modern player movement landscape. Agents will exploit whatever the rule set is to it's fullest degree. Always have, always will. It's the AFL's job to limit that and...

Traded Bailey Smith: 4-way trade: B. Smith (WB) & pick 45 to Geel / pick 38 to Carl / Macrae (WB) to StK / pick 17 & Kennedy (Carl) to WB

What are they doing wrong? It's not their fault that the AFL doesn't put reasonable, consistent, common sense rules in place for them to work within

Traded Bailey Smith: 4-way trade: B. Smith (WB) & pick 45 to Geel / pick 38 to Carl / Macrae (WB) to StK / pick 17 & Kennedy (Carl) to WB

Agents don't control those other players though. The players employ the agent. Do you really think a player is going to decide their future based on some personal beef that their agent has with a certain club? It got organised at Connor's office (which isn't completely unheard of) because of the...

Traded Bailey Smith: 4-way trade: B. Smith (WB) & pick 45 to Geel / pick 38 to Carl / Macrae (WB) to StK / pick 17 & Kennedy (Carl) to WB

What could the AFL do about it? Do you really want head office deciding who goes where and what a players value is? That's clearly worse than what we have now. I don't get the hate towards agents. Its literally their job to do what is the best interests of their players. That is the function...

    Live Event Trade Radio 2024

The first part of your comment isn’t a conspiracy theory. It’s just good business. However they don’t have the level of influence over clubs that you might think. They could encourage all they want, no reason clubs would have to comply. You can accuse the AFL of a lot of things, but the delay...

    Traded Tom Barrass & 2025 F4 (WCE) traded to Hawthorn for 2025 F1, F2 & F3 (all Haw)

This sort of thing is why the AFL need to get serious and sort all of their player movement and contract stuff out. It’s just so manipulatable. Theoretically, you could offer a FA a 1 yr deal with 4 years worth of extremely achievable triggers if you had a need to mess with a club’s...

    Speculation Jack Hayes

Dude was chronically unlucky. Genuinely tore a few games to shreds within his first 10 games of footy. Then the injury bug bites ☹️. Worth a gamble if he’s remotely healthy

Club Focus Brisbane Lions 2024 - in search of another KPF?

There are some decent budget options on the FA market. Trouble is they really need someone to ruck as well. A healthy Taberner wouldn’t be the worst option. When was the last time he was healthy again?

Not less than he did earn, but less than he would’ve earned if he stayed. Who knows if that’s actually correct though.

Traded Josh Battle - Joins Hawthorn as UFA

No one should get anything, for anyone. Compensation is a joke and can never be fair. Why should all the clubs behind them in the draft be penalized for their inability to create and environment that the player wants to stay in? It’s being manipulated by clubs and by the AFL whenever it suits...

Traded Luke Parker - traded with Jacob Konstanty to North Melbourne for pick 44

That’s a lot of tall timber and not a lot of leg speed if he plays as well. If you have 2 that can genuinely impact forward then that’s fine. I’m not sure Teakle offers enough when forward to justify it. I get it last year when you had so few marking options to support Larkey. But I’d prefer to...

Traded Luke Parker - traded with Jacob Konstanty to North Melbourne for pick 44

I agree with Comben playing back. He was the best thing they had going back there last season. Back-up ruck a concern? Could they rely on Comben doing it from defence? Really no other options in that proposed line-up. Can Logue, Corr and Archer handle most talls for the small stretches that...

Traded Luke Parker - traded with Jacob Konstanty to North Melbourne for pick 44

Agreed. They had very few who could hold their heads up high. Rowbottom wasn’t one of the worst, but he was still below his usual output. Fox was the one guy who played above expectations. Got to give that guy his flowers, might’ve played the two best games of his life in losing grand finals

I like the pickup for NM, but steady on. He kicked 3 when the game had been dead for 45 mins or more. Fox was clearly their best

I agree with your general sentiment. However, can I put forward Membrey instead of Darling? Doesn’t shift the needle either way, but on exposed form, Membrey looks to have a little more left in the tank than Darling

Trade Requested Wade Derksen - Wants to join the Demons

I like it for Melbourne. Plays fwd/ruck. Allows Van Rooyen to play permanent forward. Van Rooyen, Derksen and Fritsch is looking better than they have had. I’d move Petty back. Better yet, they build a time machine and go back and take Adelaide’s 2 1st rd picks for him 🤭

Traded Luke Parker - traded with Jacob Konstanty to North Melbourne for pick 44

Depends on your expectations. I don’t think they’re bringing them in expecting that they will instantly march up the ladder. Culture setters. Role models. Leaders. Anything you get out of them on the field is a bonus

    Opinion The Way Forward

To be fair, they have tried to find genuine size in defence. Had a real crack at Barrass, and seemingly went pretty close to getting him to agree. It’s not as if they don’t know it’s an area of weakness, but it takes 2 to tango. Concerningly, they got torched by small and medium forwards...

    Speculation Denver Grainger-Barras

Agree. Like I said, only way a trade happens is if a team identify him early enough and offer a late pick, perhaps one they don’t intend to use themselves, to bring him in. No need to give up assets for someone you can get for free. I guess the other way would be if he gets tied up in some sort...

    Speculation Denver Grainger-Barras

Think he'll end up on a list. Most likely as a rookie via DFA. Only way HFC could return anything would be a token late pick just to make his the transaction easy. Not sure he is up to it.
  27. cdcanman

    Speculation Finn Maginness

He's an ordinary kick, and despite his excellent endurance, he's pretty slow. I've never seen him play as a small defender. He's improved as a forward, played a couple of impactful games in that role but plenty of others in which he has been virtually unsighted. Can tag effectively, obviously...

Traded Jack Lukosius - Joins Port Adelaide as part of a 3-way trade with Collingwood and Gold Coast

  29. cdcanman

Traded Jack Lukosius - Joins Port Adelaide as part of a 3-way trade with Collingwood and Gold Coast

I actually think he’s a pretty perfect fit, at least in terms of role. Fogarty and Thilthorpe then Lukosious as the hybrid third tall. Important to have particularly for when Thilthorpe relieves in the ruck. His ability to fill other roles and play in other areas means he theoretically never...

    Traded Tom Barrass & 2025 F4 (WCE) traded to Hawthorn for 2025 F1, F2 & F3 (all Haw)

I think they are motivated, yes. From the sense of his value likely never being higher than it is now. Coming off a year of relative health and solid form. Being one of their only viable trade assets with real value. WCE’s need to acquire draft assets to accelerate a list build still in its...
