Would be very disappointed in Lids/Whits/Perryman were used in a negating small forward role. They're far too good for that. Sticking round pegs in square holes has been our biggest weakness in the last two years.
Yep, his kicking can be a bit off at times. Maybe that role that Williams played in the SF against WCE might be his go (almost more tackles than disposals). Personally, I wouldn't waste Perryman, Setters, Cumming etc as a pressure forward. Better another year of development in more creative...
Thought I'd give this a go, don't worry if you disagree, I've never got one of these correct:
FB: Heath Shaw - Phil Davis - Adam Tomlinson
HB: Nick Haynes - Aidan Corr - Zac Williams
MF: Lachie Whitfield - Callan Ward - Josh Kelly
HF: Toby Greene - Jeremy Cameron - Matt De Boer
FF: Tim Taranto...
If you've got one of the top 3-4 rucks in the comp and he can run all day solo in the ruck, why would you not use that weapon.
As much as it hurts, if we end up using Martin forward this year, just so Archie can develop (Archie definitely can't go forward), I would have preferred to see Martin...
Surprised how many have both Martin and Smith in their best 22s. Both very good ruckmen, but neither offer a lot up forward.
I think the days of trying to turn a ruck into a forward are gone, easier to turn a KPF into a pinch hit ruck.
I think Walker get first chance over Smith, based on...
I
I think the perception is they're both FFs only, I think Walker probably fits into the same category. My feeling is they'll try and develop Schache as a CHF, leave Walker/Freeman at FF and look to develop Close/Hipwood as a lead up third tall. I just think we are a year or two away from...
I haven't seen any evidence of him backing himself yet, but can't fault the work ethic (part of the reason I'd like to see him AFL defence, rather than NEAFL forward).
I'm concerned he's probably fallen to number 4 or 5 in the KPF pecking order (not sure where Hipwood sits ATM), but would fit...
Question for anyone that's been to training:
Has Michael Close been doing any training in defence? I think he'd be a pretty good CHB, but a mediocre KPF at best.
Big tank, good size but no great "footy smarts". If he was following someone to the ball, rather than trying to find it himself...
The atmosphere at Spotless for such a small crowd is amazing. They just play the drums and sing and cheer from the start of the game to the end. There wasn't even a single negative comment towards the umpires or Essendon players (not even by Bombers supporters).
Might have to get myself a...
Thanks for the advice. It was a little bit my influence. I'll probably get a Giants membership next year, so at the very least the GWS will be a very close 2nd favourite team for me, but if he gets to see his favourite team play every second week or so, he gets keener on AFL and I'll always have...
Hi everyone,
I just moved to the Penrith area and I'm heading to my first GWS game on Sunday (the 7yo son's already a Giants nut and sings me the GWS song 20 times a day). What's the parking like at the ground? or would I be better off catching a train in? What's the best place to sit at the...
That's a very fair point, still think he'd offer us more than anything we've got on our list at the moment.
Interesting article on the HS website saying we're targeting him at $750k for 5 years.
Wha??? You obviously missed QClash this year. Just the lazy 19 disposals and kicked 6.2. Durability would be his only worry, but if he can stay on the park he'd be a top ten AFL goal kicker every year. Agree on Henderson, although, he'd be a handy #2 KPF.
3 out of 4. Redden's be OK (just OK, but far from worst).
The other 3 points are spot on though. Especially the point about Aish firing at his next club. Watching Yeo's game makes me angry.
These three are probably the only positives to come out of the game. Nice to get another game into Andrews as well, but obviously still has a fair way to go.
Yep, great to see Merrett down back. Looks so comfortable back there. My big points:
1. D. Beams>>>DeGoey, Greenwood and Crisp.
2. Berg will be better for the run.
3. Lewy Taylor to take the next step.
4. Bewick's got to at least get a chance to cement his spot in the best 22.
5. Rich is back...
GWS just announced that they will be streaming the GWS V GCS match next week. AFL must have had a change of heart.
Hopefully there's enough time to get the BRI V STK streamed live.
Yes, Martin is a proper ruck, but IMO, he is also very capable of being a proper midfielder.
I still only named two KPFs (Close and Staker) with McStay on the bench as a swingman tall. Given most teams play three tall forwards, we've got a lot more run in the HFF area (Green, Taylor, Zorko and...
Solution is round 23 last year.
Martin played on ball, rested in defence, then to the ruck, then to the bench.
Leuey played #1 ruck and rested on the bench.
Worked well.
Just because I can't stand it when any best 22 has Martin or Leuenberger anywhere near the forward 50, my best 22 v2.0:
B: Justin Clarke, Daniel Merrett, Ryan Harwood
HB: Jed Adcock, Darcy Gardiner, Daniel Rich
C: James Aish, Jack Redden, Pearce Hanley
HF: Allen Christensen, Michael Close...
I'm almost certain that Bewick will play most games, barring injury.
I'm not sure who else we've got that is such a good runner and so versatile defensively. Don't know who misses out for him though, I guess there's always going to be injuries and being so versatile makes you more likely to...
I know he's only played 4 games, but I thought Freeman showed better glimpses than Close and Paine (who only showed glimpses as well) and hopefully all three are ahead of MGuane, I agree Staker is ahead of them all though.
Freeman did give nothing in regards to defensive efforts though, that's...
