The fact a player has more freedom when they’re younger and out of contract than they do after they’ve paid their dues up to
FA is just plain wrong. And the fact clubs get better compensation for losing a FA who has paid their dues compared to a younger player who just chooses to not re-sign...
I posted earlier this week I’m convinced Geelong know the system is completely fecked, they know it has to change so are making hay as the sun shines. All they need to do is essentially get players to nominate them.
Probably quite easily. You have to think Melbourne are giving Oliver away so Geelong can prob get him for a second round pick and paying decent part of his wages.
Because he’s been paid by the club, used their facilities and is team mate to all the other current Western Bulldogs players. In all honesty crap like this we should be able to fine him a weeks wages. He’s basically not turning up for work.
We’re viewed as a “small” club. Players want big games we at the G or think playing for a marquee club guarantees success. It’s a status thing n my opinion. We really need to get better at PR around our club and the new facilities.
People should be careful what they wish for with JUH. It’s so difficult for a club of our stature to attract top end talent. When we get gifted some I’m not sure I’d be rushing them out the door.
The theoretical turn JUH into Butters is extremely unlikely. If Butters were to become available...
Yep, oh look we can only offer what we have or are allowed. It’s a ridiculous system.
I honestly believe Geelong know it’s stupid, know it has to get changed, so are just going at everything they can while they can. All they have to do is get a player to “nominate” them.
They do, they also play 2 games a week plus internationals. I get your point though. An afl home and away fixture that tests depth of list would be interesting. Although in the uk the teams have long argued for less games so you see the best players more often and for longer.
Id like to think it’s because the afl is genuinely looking into the concerns this has been planned for a couple of years which coincides with Bailey’s cotton on deal. Oliver news is more likely.
Yep, at least the club is trying something else instead of just accepting whatever Geelong have. Dunkley was a bitter pill to swallow when Brisbane just split their picks. Clubs like us get fecked over.
Another thing on SDK is tall defenders don’t grow on trees. We’ve been desperate for one for years until we brought an aging Jones back. Getting a potential set and forget in without having to gamble at the draft is pretty appealing.
What if it’s the best we can do out of the Smith trade this year? Would you rather SDK or be last day of trade period and Geelong have traded their first for something else? It’s crap I know but it’s the way the current trade environment is.
