Rumour Future of the club (Bevo, board, assistant coaches, football department)

The Board is functioning well in terms of the development, making a profit, growing the club.

On field we do need to improve, making finals and being eliminated in the first final is not good enough, especially as we have the best player in the competition.

The AFLW team has been diabolical, losing the talent we had, even though it was AFL sanctioned aggressive poaching from teams like Norf and Richmond, we should have been able to retain some of them.

Those of us who have lived through the darker times of the mid 90s, Fightback 1989 and the deficit-induced feeder club era that preceded it must not forget how important this financial stability is. The club exists for football but it won’t exist at all if it can’t compete financially.

Those who are too young to be scarred by any of that should still be grateful we have a pretty effective administration that allows us to whinge about lesser things. Like missing the finals three times in the last decade.
🙏

Ok sermon over.
Now who else can we boot out?

People are reading way too much into the fact that it was clear that changes needed to be made by bringing in two new footy bosses and that sort of sidelined Grant. It was impossible for changes to be made without Grant being sidelined a bit, but people wanted changes to be made and Grant not to be sidelined? That doesn't make sense.

By all accounts it isn't acrimonious, Grant just wants to be in a position where he has more influence, and now that he doesn't, he's happy to leave. He's not bitter about it, just accepting of reality.

I’m sure he wouldn’t mind stepping away for a bit to spend more time with family and enjoy himself for a while. Obviously not short of coin and he was selling his house in Williamstown, so might even be out of the Melbourne bubble now

Yeah, I'm with maddog37
and stefoid

And there's very few bands or music genres I won't listen to.

I'll go out on a limb and declare I refuse to listen to:
Oasis
Tina Arena
I'll bear Crowded House under sufferance, but all their songs sound the same

There's the odd song by other artists, but they're the "entire catalogue" ones.
(My offspring variously listen to Aus/US rap, heavy metal and Tay-tay, but other genres as well. These are all preferable to the 3 artists I listed above.)

Voss is over in England learning from Spurs and other football teams, Few Hawks folks went to NZ and met up with the cricket team, rowing team, Crusaders etc.
I remember Clarko and Bellamy often did stuff together. So many other clubs look to branch out to other sports to see what they can learn, but I can't remember a time we've done that.
Is there anything to it? Is it something we should be looking to do?

Bevo has a chat with Ange Postecoglou every 3 weeks.

Most of it is fluff and an excuse for senior leadership to go overseas. Would love to see Bevo asking Haaland if he can play ruck.

I went to a training course many years ago. The theme was don’t confine yourself to your own area of expertise to improve or come up with new ideas. The trainer based it on a few inventions from left field. Examples he sited were the hydraulic jack was invented by carpet layers, the vacuum cleaner was invented by bridge builders and a few others I have forgotten. He also mentioned he ran a training course at Alcoa where there was a problem with spillage of molten aluminium. He insisted staff from all areas in the company attend. The problem was solved by a typist citing what she did when baking.
So yes, I would say there is benefit.

Yep, he meets up via zoom with a panel of coaches at least once a month. Not sure who else is currently in the panel, at one point it included Bevo, Ange, Brian Goorjian, Eddie Jones and others.
Has also got a bit to do with Bellamy iirc.
Sat in the coaches box at the state of origin a few years back too.

Learning from the Spurs isn't a big thing

Wasn't Bevo trying to catch up with RayGun for a chat?

Not sure if it has been mentioned here or how accurate it is, but I was told today that Grant and Bevo haven't been on speaking terms since last year. Been communicating through intermediaries.
I think my source said it was on Fox.

It seems Bevo didn't take kindly to not being consulted before his mate Rohan Smith got the sack.

If that's true, Grant's departure says a bit about the soft power that Bevo holds.
