Does anyone like Isner tomorrow purely because of Chase the Ace?
I think Ferrer will win, but if Isner could get it to 4 or 5 sets he should have ample opportunity to hit 30+ aces. He's averaging 10 aces a set so far this tournament and hit 17 in a 3 set loss against Ferrer last year.
985/10 in AF - currently 7th overall. Brought in Honeychurch and Jack this week which I'm already regretting. Hopefully the former will get a game next week and the latter can get >20 disposals for the first time this year...
Hanks, Greengrass and Thomspon missed with those! Crazy. I think there were clear arguments against the latter two (thriller/bad film) but there was no logic behind snubbing Hanks. Especially considering Abdi only got traction in the first place riding Hanks' coattails.
I didn't predict...
True, it's just annoying combing through countless threads to find an interesting stat/post etc. I still frequent it regularly and it's still the best prediction forum, but 6 threads of over 25 pages for Best Actress predictions in November is a little extreme.
The forums (AwardsWatch) are going that way too, or the 'predictions' section at least. It's sad really, there used to be some really interesting posts but its now descended into gifs, circle-jerking and fanboys.
I think Dern needs the SAG if he's going to contend. Eijifor will win BAFTA and probably BFCA (as they normally award the front-runner) so SAG is Dern's only chance at gaining momentum. And I don't think he will get it. Nebrasca didn't get an ensemble nomination there, DBC did. Plus I think...
My predictions:
Picture:
1. 12 Years a Slave (will sweep televised awards)
2. American Hustle
3. Gravity
4. Captain Phillips
5. The Wolf of Wall Street
6. Nebraska
7. Dallas Buyers Club
8. Philomena (Globe + BAFTA + Harvey should be enough)
9. Her (PGA/WGA nominations, LAFCA win should...
Awards nominations maybe but not the actual win. The difference between a Best Picture nominee and a Best Picture winner has more to do with the PR team and the type of film then popularity and critically acclaim. Using awards wins as an indicia for a film being 'rated' doesn't work when you're...
Not in the slightest. Awards are won and nominations are gained (primarily) by marketing, campaigning and having a prestige director or baity story. Critics reviews, which should be the indication of if a film is 'rated', are never a deciding factor unless the film is small/difficult. You're...
Ugh. It got a Best Picture (Comedy or Musical) nomination in a year Mamma Mia! was nominated. No-one rated it. Similar to The Departed, Oscars/GG/BAFTAs shouldn't be used as an indicator of if a film is 'rated'. The Departed won in 2006 by default - Scorsese was rediculously overdue and there...
I think people on this forum are being blinded by how great Walter White is as a character. Outside of Mike the lack of character development in BB's secondary characters means it will never be in TW or TS league. Hank, Marie and Skylar all started out as simple characterures and it wasnt until...
Hanks is a natural actor not a method actor. You see a Tom Hanks film and you know it's Hanks playing an army officer, FBI Agent etc. rather than an army officer or an FBI agent. It's such a simplistic view to assume that because you know it's Hanks playing a character, he is playing the same...
Quite rightly. Britons do mini-series, literary adaptions and the odd crime show well, but nothing with the longevity, consistency or imagination of US shows.
1. Flight of the Concords
2. Game of Thrones
3. Iron Chef (Japan)
4. Arrested Development
5. Skins
6. Louie
7. Girls
8. Jersey Shore
9. Fawlty Towers
10. Boston Legal
Late Spring is brilliant. It really effectively conveys the fear of the life that one is living coming to an end.
The speech Noriko's father gives after Noriko expresses that her greatest happiness is to remain with him, and asks why things cannot remain as they are, is the highlight. What he...
1. Tokyo Story (Ozu, 1953)
2. The Third Man (Reed, 1949)
3. The Magnificent Ambersons (Welles, 1942)
4. Sansho the Bailiff (Mizoguchi, 1954)
5. Chinatown (Polanski, 1974)
6. Mirror (Tarkovsky, 1975)
7. A Clockwork Orange (Kubrick, 1971)
8. 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her (Godard, 1967)
9. The...
I don't think so. Voting for the Globes and BFCA were already done before Oscar nominations and he won those without pity. People just seemed to like his film. The ZD30 backlash helped Argo far greater than the Affleck snub IMO.
The Master's snub there was disgraceful. Especially if they saw it in 70mm (which i doubt many did, but still).
It's made up somewhat by Skyfall's inclusion, but really that branch has NFI, Tree of Life lost last year to The Artist.
It's hilarious that for the day between BAFTA and Oscar...
Crazy nominations. Affleck and Bigelow missed despite hitting every precursor there is. Pretty much everyone at the Critics' Choice today (where Argo won BD/BP) was consoling Affleck. Dude looked pissed.
SLP with Weinstein will win. It's the first film since '81 to get all four acting...
