As many of you are aware, I've been collecting votes for a BigFooty Top 100 films countdown. The purpose as to get an indication of what BigFooty considers to be their favourite movies. It's been a long process, but I've been very pleased with the reaction from the community and I would hope that the release of the countdown with promote discussion and reflection on the films themselves and their position within the countdown.
Before we begin, I should make it clear how the order was reached. Firstly, people were asked to submit a list of 10 films which they considered to be their favourites. It was important that these were ranked from 1 to 10, as the films ranking within a person's list determined how many points were awarded. For example, a film ranked 1 on a posters list would receive 10 points, whilst a film ranked 5 would receive 6 points.
Once all the votes were tallied, the list was created. At the lower levels of the list, there were many ties on raw votes. In order to separate these, the more lists a film appeared on, the higher it would be in the countdown. If film were tied on points and lists made, the films were ranked by their highest individual score.
For example
Film A is ranked 8 on Poster 1's list and 4 on poster 2's list
Film B is ranked 7 on Poster 3's list and 5 on poster 4's list
Both these films will receive 10 points (Film A 3&7, Film B 4&6). Both films appeared on 2 lists.
Film A would be ranked higher because it was ranked 4 on Poster 2's list, compared to 5 on Poster 4's list.
One of the other concerns I had about this countdown was that there would be a low amount of participation and the list would be dominated by films that appeared high on one person's list and nowhere else. Thanks to the high amount of participation, this was avoided - every film on this list appeared on at least two poster's list.
Overall, 88 posters took part in the countdown, whilst 390 films received votes.
Without further delay, the countdown begins!

Having been part of these sort of countdowns on other forums in the past, one thing that also helped with discussion and kept people interested in the countdown was a Top 10 prediction game. If you're so inclined, post what you feel will be the top 10 films in their correct order. You won't win anything other than a well deserved sense of self satisfaction, but that could be the greatest prize of all.
