Movie The BigFooty Top 100 Films Countdown (3-1!)

Remove this Banner Ad

As many of you are aware, I've been collecting votes for a BigFooty Top 100 films countdown. The purpose as to get an indication of what BigFooty considers to be their favourite movies. It's been a long process, but I've been very pleased with the reaction from the community and I would hope that the release of the countdown with promote discussion and reflection on the films themselves and their position within the countdown.

Before we begin, I should make it clear how the order was reached. Firstly, people were asked to submit a list of 10 films which they considered to be their favourites. It was important that these were ranked from 1 to 10, as the films ranking within a person's list determined how many points were awarded. For example, a film ranked 1 on a posters list would receive 10 points, whilst a film ranked 5 would receive 6 points.

Once all the votes were tallied, the list was created. At the lower levels of the list, there were many ties on raw votes. In order to separate these, the more lists a film appeared on, the higher it would be in the countdown. If film were tied on points and lists made, the films were ranked by their highest individual score.

For example

Film A is ranked 8 on Poster 1's list and 4 on poster 2's list
Film B is ranked 7 on Poster 3's list and 5 on poster 4's list

Both these films will receive 10 points (Film A 3&7, Film B 4&6). Both films appeared on 2 lists.
Film A would be ranked higher because it was ranked 4 on Poster 2's list, compared to 5 on Poster 4's list.

One of the other concerns I had about this countdown was that there would be a low amount of participation and the list would be dominated by films that appeared high on one person's list and nowhere else. Thanks to the high amount of participation, this was avoided - every film on this list appeared on at least two poster's list.

Overall, 88 posters took part in the countdown, whilst 390 films received votes.

Without further delay, the countdown begins!
____________________________________________________________________________

Having been part of these sort of countdowns on other forums in the past, one thing that also helped with discussion and kept people interested in the countdown was a Top 10 prediction game. If you're so inclined, post what you feel will be the top 10 films in their correct order. You won't win anything other than a well deserved sense of self satisfaction, but that could be the greatest prize of all.

Caddyshack at 92? Should be in the top 10.

Speaking of Chevy Chase, just watched National Lampoon's Vacation for about the 100th time on GO, still awesome, it made my extended squad but couldn't quite make the cut for my top 10.

Still deserves to make the top 100 though for this ending alone.

So who was the other person who voted forˋCaddyshack?ˊ

Granted, the last time I watched it was about three years ago. I remember showing it to a girl when she mentioned she hadn't seen it before, y'know. I laughed my ass off, but she did not like it, and I haven't been that disappointed since. But it's still the superior golf comedy, and I will disappointed again when`Happy Gilmore’ finishes ranked above it.

Yay, Barry Lyndon made it! Thanks other person! :)

Mad Max, Vertigo & Manhattan all feature in my Top 100 as well, so happy with their inclusions.

I cant be bothered going back and adding up votes, but I think the first 2 Godfather's will be right up there. Also noticed a lot of votes coming in for Once Upon a Time in the West, although it would be unusual to see it top the more mainstream GB&U on one of these type lists.

Hmm, the pictures are loading for me on my computer, but not on my iPad or iPhone. What are you guys viewing the thread from.

Oh, and I just don't get the love for Step Brothers. I enjoy Will Ferrell movies as much as the next guy, but I don't see why people like this one.

Maybe it's because everyone talked it up to me, but I might have giggled once or twice. It's not the uproarious comedy it was sold to me as.

Mac, Safari. Could be the issue but haven't really had this happen before.

Regardless, not a huge issue. Fantastic effort with this thread mate, really enjoying it. Didn't contribute since I have a clear top 5 and that's it (so many others to squeeze into a 10!) but it's a great read nonetheless. Will certainly be adding a few to my "to see" list.
