theres definitely been a change in the tone and mood on this thread - pressure building up to release some full blown melts on Wed/Thurs
TBH I'm at the point of just letting it be - we're getting 7 new highly rated kids into the club - there'll be some busts and some surprises but as long as...
agree on Jagga but I think they should definitely be looking at combos / needs / player types - this draft is the bedrock of our re-build and its crucial to get the right mix. Hopefully they are selecting players that fill certain roles and will fit our game style - whatever that is or will be...
The more I think about it the more I reckon the tigers are not going to go the way we all think. I reckon they'll be thinking the Lalor/Smilie combo is too high risk - both players are relatively high chances of being a bust. Both have massive ceilings but they are far from being guaranteed...
Just putting it out there - this draft reminds of the 2009 Dusty draft - lots of depth, lots of mids, lots of diversity in mid styles, not many good talls but there was a big goofy ruck called Max Gawn taken at pick 34. He reminds me a bit of him. He was best available ruck but a bit of a speccy.
I reckon the outliers are the most interesting part of this table EG Sid Draper at 10 in the Age and Langford at 11 for espn. Its like they know something different to the others ie inside word.
If they didn't know anything they'd just take a conservative approach and copy the others.
Also...
Schacke is a great example - it just looks like he's been told to be aggressive and he doesn't know how because it isn't in his psyche. He just looks like a clumsy goose when he tries
Not sure about that - aggression is very instinctual and you see it from a young age - it cannot be taught. It does evolve but I find that the players that aren't aggressive in juniors dont suddenly become aggressive players in seniors
Why would the clubs tell Twomey anything - its completely against their interests unless it is to send a smoke screen. If Twomey has any intel at all it would be from low level unreliable leaks.
He prob does a bit of research with coaches/managers at u18 level to get his rankings.
I think...
When you look at the dusty draft there are lots of similarities to this years draft. Lots of depth - lots of mids, really light on for talls at the top - but a few good ones later on. There was lots of diversity in the mids - some banker low risk mids and some risky high ceiling type, some...
I think the view on Dusty's u18 career is being a little retrospectively obscured. Dusty had some very well publicised weaknesses which he really didn't overcome until well into his senior career - in particular his tank. He also wasn't great at defensive pressure and was pretty slow - which...
Dusty was certainly rated top 5 - there was a clear top 2 - dusty was a risky prospect and probably could have gone either way. There was nothing to indicate he would become one of the all time greats. Much like all the top draft prospects this year inc Lalor
I dont remember it that way with dusty - he certainly didn't dominate - I think the tigers took a bit of a punt tbh - he had a few big 'weaknesses' like his defense and tank - he really didn't hit his straps until a couple of years into his AFL career.
Will be an A grader - absolute plug n play banker along with Jagga. Lalor, FOS, Smillie, Reid, Tauru, Langford are all risky but potentially higher ceilings. I feel like we need at least one banker.
There was a short period of time where it was reserved for the skipper - that went out the window with Cotch.
Maybe give it to the skipper in waiting - Jagga!
The Tiges have a had a good look at Jagga - more so than any other draftee. He played a few games in the VFL for the Tiges and played pretty well by all reports. I personally think he will be drafted at 1 and I like that idea - he is a banker, exactly the type of player we need and a genuine...
I suppose when you look at Brisbane's midfield it doesn't look fast either - Neale, McCluggage, Dunkley, Ashcroft dont have lots of leg speed. Like you say the other factors can definitely mitigate that need. Leg speed may be more important on the outside and off Half back - players that can...
Is FOS fast? Draper is, maybe Jagga. Looking further down the list there is some quality outside speed especially Hotton and Lindsay. They become extra important if we do go big/slow at the top
Is anyone else concerned by our potential midfield next year being way too slow. With the consensus on here being that we'll prob go with Lalor and Smillie as our first 2 - where's the zip? We have ...
Taranto
Prestia
Ross
Hopper
McAullifee
Sonsie?
Banks?
Dow
Lalor
Smillie
Who in the draft...
I'd love Lalor and Jagga with our first 2 but I cant see it happening - Jagga is too good to slide - I reckon north, carlton, adelaide, melbourne would all take him in a heartbeat if available. Smillie will definitely be avail at 6 but I dont like the Lalor/smillie combo - it feels risky...
With FOS I think it is mostly based on his form from last year as a bottom ager when he wasn't injured - dominated juniors 22/23 - came into 2024 rated number 1. Has a very high ceiling - can't imagine he'd drop out of the top 3 in any draft
If your team does not have round 1 selection in this years draft you'll be downplaying the quality and vice versa if your team does.
As a tiges man - I'll play my part. This draft to me looks high quality - I've not watched any of them play but my opinion is based on the fact Ashcroft is not...
Difference this year is that we have a very good form line in Levi Ashcroft - he is considered better than his brother who just won the NS and he is only marginally considered number 1 - some consider others are better but have had interupted years. The top 7-8 inc Ashcroft are hard to rank...
