And clubs aren't saying much this year.

Even if there are no trades, I think he will be not as accurate as other years
Why would the clubs tell Twomey anything - its completely against their interests unless it is to send a smoke screen. If Twomey has any intel at all it would be from low level unreliable leaks.

He prob does a bit of research with coaches/managers at u18 level to get his rankings.

I think in past years he's been on the money because the rankings seemed very clear especially at the top - most of the phantom drafts were on the same page - this year not so much.

No that's rewriting history, it was because Scully completely dominated for 2 straight seasons, was a dual AA and clearly considered the #1 player of that pool at the time.

Trengove starred at senior SANFL level, including BOG in the Prelim. A lot of weight was placed on that.

Dusty was never considered the #1 pick that year.

In fact, I'd argue he was discussed more in the Morabito and Cunnington group than the Scully/Trengove group.
Pies had him at 1.

you're a self aware one, that's better than most

The only real risk i want to take is Lalor at 1, if we choose differently then I hope its Smith. I'd like Smillie at 6 and Armstrong / Lindsay with our picks around 10 & 11. I have a feeling Melbourne will pick Armstrong before us though. If thats the case i'd pick another mid/runner and grab a Key position player with a later pick.

Those saying a tall Tauru is a stretch at 2 is interesting.

I remember I thought the same about Luke Jackson as pick 3, then 2 years later he helped us win a flag.

Would hope the Dees jump at Tauru, the best tall in a super draft with pick 5.

Look at the impact Mac Andrew made this season.
Super Draft?

North just need to show significant improvement, which they should coming off a low base, for LDU to stay put!
I agree that the likelihood is that they improve, as I suggested a few days ago, but the big thing that can stop any team in its tracks is injuries.

They are a bad injury run away from being exactly where they were this year.

As I said yesterday, it’s not the clubs themselves telling Twomey who they’re picking, it’s the clubs with the picks just after them in particular who would tell him who they’re picking.

Plus intel from player managers on who’s doing the most digging and so-on about their player.

Discussed By whom ?

Any evidence ?

Unwelcome news from journalist with heaps of industry connections who literally gets paid to get draft intel = Click bait

Welcome news from bigfooty random whose cousin knows a players physio = Credible

That magnificent victory by the saints over Carlton’s reserves in the last round could prove very costly.
They would have held picks 5&6 in the draft to access these “prime mids” but the win see’s them now holding 7&8.
Not quite in the same stratosphere as Clarkson handing the Eagles Harley Reid in the final round but a solid effort from Ross nonetheless …
All depends. The AFL copped plenty of backlash for giving us pick 8 as compo for Battle- from their secret herbs and spices formula- but it may have been a different story if band 1 was going to be pick 6. That might have been a bridge too far for them.

So it may have been 5 & 6 had we lost, or it may have been 5 and 25.

We’ll never know for sure, so it’s not worth worrying about.

Sounds like clubs are lining up to make us offers for 8 though, so we could get some killer value for that pick.

Hope you guys remember the club that helped you get the Compo. In recognition of that you guys need to consider the below favourably.

8+F3 for Blues f1+33+F4( 2 of them)

They're both BS this year. Twomey will be lucky to get six of the top ten right
That opinion isn’t based on anything.

There’s always speculation about where players will get picked

Twomey is usually very close if not bang on the money for early picks

It’s possible this year is harder, but we have no idea whether that’s actually true. It’s only BF gossip and vibes dictating that opinion

Twomey has a better track record than most other journals and anyone on here.

His track record suggests he knows more and has more contacts than you do.

The argument seems to be that clubs won't tell journalists what they're doing this year, because a bunch of picks are close together when in fact it's in no club's interest ever to tell journalists who they are picking and that's no different this year to any other year.

Journalists don't base their phantoms on clubs telling them who they will select. Journalists get info on what clubs think other clubs will do plus insights from player managers, coaches, other contacts on who is showing interest in who. Those parties don't have much reason to be less forthcoming this year vs any other year.

I'm not saying clubs aren't holding their cards closer to their chest. This year might be slightly harder to predict. But the argument that "this year is completely different to any other year, and nobody has any idea what has anyone is doing" is flawed.

I've been following the draft for nearly 20 years. Any intel that gets into the media this close turns out to be true 90% of the time, particularly regarding the top 5-10. Doesn't mean there won't be any surprises though.

Three clubs hold the top 11 picks, all them are reliant on each other not finding out who they want. When have we had that dynamic before to this extent? (Genuine question)

Add a lack of a clear top 6 in addition to that, and you have a recipe for silence.

The only Intel that's getting out into the media at the moment seems to pick interest rather than player interest.

Twomey already had the top five in his October phantom guide last year. This is an outlier year.
